OK, finally obtained your 1911; you may now remain in the country! :-) This Series '80 1991 is my favorite configuration, as ,other than the firing pin block, it harkens back to the original 1911 with the long trigger and flat mainspring housing. It feels the very best to me.

Gotta tell you anyone who hasn't experienced this gun has missed out on the classic firearm of many generations. I've owned this same series 80 for almost 30 years. Still my favorite!! I still have the same Bianchi Lightning Grips I put on the gun in 1988. Many thousands of rounds and decades later this thing is still perfect.

My Father actually just handed Down a Series 80 Colt Combat Commander to me, it was his first pistol back in the 80's and he felt it should be my first as well. Its an amazing firearm, it feels like shooting a piece of American history. I plan on keeping and taking care of it until I have a son of my own to pass it on to. If you haven't had a chance to shoot a real Colt 1911 you're missing out.

Next one on my list. I debated between Series 70 and Series 80 and have settled on the 1991. For those that don't know, it can't be a Series 70 or Series 80 unless it's a Colt and No, vintage WWI and WWII Colts were not Series 70. I prefer the flat mainspring housing and longer trigger of the 1991 over the Series 70 Colt. I won't be modifying the gun. No trigger job or anything. The trigger is fine like it is. It won't be used in competition, so now magwell, no beavertail, no new sights. It's a nice homage to the 1911 and the 1911A1, with what I consider to be the best features of both. I like the ever so slightly improvement of the sights with the addition of white dots. I have a number of other 1911s, from .22 to 10mm, but my heart keeps telling me I need a Colt to make the collection respectable.

I moved from Stratford, CT and I brought Colt Government Series 70 and 80 and I love it. My first Colt was M-1911 - US military made in 1917 in cal .45 ACP. in excellent shape for $325.00 in 1986 and I love it since it can put a punch 0on human body when it hit and stopped them from killing you. My father brought a brand new one in 1951 in box with 2 extra magazine with instruction for $15.00. My former state has a lots of factory that made firearms and when I was unemployed in the early 1980 the state Unemployment office send all of unemployed engineers or factory workers to Colt FA. MFG, in Hartford for good pay job and I was one of them. Colt used has employee purchased program as well as Colt Custom Shops that can work on your guns such as trigger job while you wait in the car.I owned a lots of Colts both Automatic such as a real M-1911 - US ARMY ang Government Model both big letter and white out lines. The new gun laws in CT and East Coast States make colt to be out of business suas as Permit Fee went from $240.00 per 5 years to $600.00 as well as banned on assult rifle under state crime bills.
