I grew up with Sinatra-type music, thanks to my wonderful mother. My junior year in college (1986) I dragged my new wave/punk music girlfriend, kicking and screaming, to see Frank Sinatra's last concert tour. Frank was 80 and his pipes weren't what they were but he destroyed the Lloyd Noble Arena, holding the crowd in the palm of his hand with singing and stories and jokes like the master performer he was. When he closed the show with "New York, New York" the crowd went bananas with applause, louder and longer than any rock concert I had attended at that same venue. My new wave/punk music girlfriend still thanks me to this day for dragging her to the show.

Ella Fitzgerald singing and scatting How High The Moon is a classic for the rest of time. Check that out, you will be floored. What can be said about Sinatra and Armstrong? Legends beyond legends. Sinatra used his star power to make sure that black entertainers were treated equally with whites. Copied the following from Wiki for you: Sinatra played a major role in the desegregation of Nevada hotels and casinos in the 1950s and 1960s, often stepping in to demand apologies for a racist incident and abolishing of Jim Crow policies before he would fulfill his show contract. ✌️🔥❤️

Another great duet performance from back in the day is Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald singing Lady Is A Tramp. Sinatra made it well known that his favorite female singer was Ella Fitzgerald. They were very good friends.

Frank's favourite female singer was actually Billie Holiday. He cited her as his biggest influence. When she died, Frank went on a three-day drinking spree, weeping incessantly and listening to "Lady In Satin". Years later, he dedicated a lovely tribute called "Lady Day" to her. It is well worth listening to. This performance with Louie is fabulous.

Frank Sinatra was also a hell of an actor. If you get the itch, watch films like The Manchurian Candidate or From Here to Eternity, or anything he was in. I'll let others suggest songs for you. As for Louis Armstrong, you should watch the video of a duet he'd done with Dizzy Gillespie, on the song, 'Umbrella Man'. Lots of fun.

Sinatra's pitch and phrasing and timing is effortless and perfect, like he's chewing gum.. Satch is an obvious One Of A Kind performer. But he is considered by many to be the greatest contributor to American music, especially for his improvised solos on the trumpet. He influenced many musicians on different instruments in different genres. That's Bad Ass...

Another version of this song was recorded by frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin in a Charity benefit in 1965...They was part of The Rat Pack. It would give you another version of it more of a comedy and more relax but still done by great friends. Johnny Carson was even involved in this benefitj

I LOVE this reaction and the fact that (I hope) you're choosing this rabbit hole to jump into! There is so, so much fantastic music from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and Sinatra & Louis Armstrong are best of the best - and they're still just the entry into the rabbit hole. I'd love to see you do more of these. Maybe like Louis Jordan "Choo Choo Ch'boogie" and Benny Goodman "Sing Sing Sing" (Gene Krupa on drums). And SO much more. Strange to see videos with people smokin' on stage back then ! Love "Satchmo" along w/Frank singing as well as playing his trumpet so wonderful!! I think I knew what you meant T about some of the "Old Motown" groups like The Four Tops, The Temptations that had their synchronized steps with a front man. That's what I grew up on until The British Invasion...and the rest is history! Even way back then music was, and will always be to me, a great uniter with respect for one another in the art of music

Others have suggested Ella Fitzgerald (I love her so much, I named my daughter after her!!). She was the Queen of everything but especially scat singing.
