I must say it: the best never rest! Always nice to see the boss, Bob Chandler! No Problem-Equalizer was probably my favorite race. Thanks for sharing this.

Them showing the 1988 race that cost Bigfoot 4 the title made me realize that that course was probably the only course that TNT made that wasn't really good. Top notch promotion that produced the best monster truck racing of all time. Its a damn shame that there wasn't a major financial backing for the company. If TNT could have lasted well into the 90's or even early 2000's Monster truck racing would be a vastly different and better product than what you see now with Monster Jam.

It would have been an interesting dichotomy for sure. Although I wonder if the popularity of freestyle would have phased out the more serious racing anyway.

I thought the PENDA Points Series gave it a good shot trying to make monster truck racing a legitimate sport, but ultimately I guess there just wasn't enough interest in it. There are the niche fans like us that love it, but the vast majority are casual fans that prefer freestyle, and that's the direction monster trucks went.

A lot of their pre-'88 season races had some poor courses. The uneven courses they ran on MLB ballpark outfields were probably the worst examples.

It’s wonderful to think this way, but the fact is that ALL sports have gone the way of chasing the almighty dollar, which involves bending over to the mainstream. Even Dennis figured it’d be best to sell the Digger name. I highly doubt, given the state of virtually all sports nowadays, that monster truck racing would have been any different.

These 1990 Freedom Hall shows really highlighted how dated and lackluster TNT had become at that point in time. Faulty killer boxes, different rules for different teams, etc.

NO PROBLEM: short wheelbase working for him over the bump at the start WILDHAIR: may not have the best reaction time on brakes EQUALIZER: great potential CAROLINA CRUSHER: best lookin and is CHEVY always a top truck and driver BIG FOOT: amazing power and suspension. If he can get one truck length of tires on the ground he is going to pass you in the air. This was an exciting year and I think it was about the time I transitioned as a kid from WWF to monster trucks and sports cavelcade lol and never looked back. Now you have sorta standard trucks with stupid outrageous bodies like Batman etc. This was when it was exciting and trucks were unique.

They act like the Equalizer would've won that race at 3:07 had not the kill switch fucked up (not sure if it even ever did). Not a chance, Andy Brass had a flawless race and it wouldn't have mattered. Too bad in hindsight since it created controversy.

They only counted the best 75 percent of each trucks finish at the end of the season. That is the only time the points would have decreased.

So this was before bigfoot 8 was banned? Did equalizer have a part in that with complaints or was it all truck racing teams? Just curious.
