@@primadonna82 The interpreter Choi Sung-jae, perhaps better known on KZbin videos as Sharon Choi, graduated from a US university, is Korean citizen and, I imagine, a native Korean speaker (and, as many have noted, _not_ a professional interpreter). We’ll probably learn more about her in the coming months.

Woosik is so cuteeee hahaha, tho I totally understand him here lol. He can speak korean and english well but he's the type who got nervous easily if he have talk in front of public without any script. I'm like that too, even tho i'm fluent in several languages, but i always messed up in public even during speaking my native language, my mind still can't take the pressure hahaha

It helps that the Korean language is "ergonomically" designed to be simple to use. Not from a foreign perspective if you already know English or some other language obviously, but if you actually break languages down.

Every response they gave is incredibly eloquent. But that translator!! She's amazing!! She is able to capture the essence of each actor/director. I consider myself bilingual but nowhere near her talent.

Are we witnessing a sign of change of time where Hollywood and entertainment medias are respectfully embracing an Asian film and cast members or is this just one time thing because it was a good film? Personally, it's refreshing how Director Bong and the Korean actors, and of course the interpreter, have handled all these high honors and interviews with grace, humor, and with such confidence that I have not seen from other foreign film makers and actors.

They won cause it's a good movie with tones and a story most people regardless or race or culture can relate to and enjoy. It being asain is just coincidental imo. Loads of amazing movies have come from asia but I don't think there's been much shunning of them imo, maybe i'm wrong

Niño Malo korean movies are something else! Their storylines are so unique and captivating. I’d suggest you watch other movies by Bong director like memories of murder and mother. For the drama, defendant and sky castle are my all time favourites!

Not to be rude, but both SAG and the Oscars are local events, they are US award ceremonies. I mean it's great to see such a good film make it's way into Hollywood mainstream media, but maybe we shouldn't act as if hollywood is supposed to be a global thing.

Juan Gonzalez the way it is right know it’s global, we just don’t see that on the nominees list. If they want to make it really local they need to add limitations. I think if year after year we had real recognition across the board for not in- English movies Hollywood could raise their bar by having higher stakes. At least three actors of Parasite should’ve been nominated.

Parasite is a fun movie but I had to see it twice to get some scenes because of the subtitles. The second time because I know knew the plot I could enjoy the movie the second time and did. It’s witty...it’s charming....it’s dark but in a funny way. It’s really unique and original.!

@@dfa3366 i don't know, it's insane that almost every country mostly use subtitles and in America it's looked at as being distracted by it or too lazy or whatever, even US award shows don't really give a damn about it, sure it's gonna be tough for the first couple dozens to watch with subtitles but you won't notice it after a while, the amount of foreign films that are brilliant in every sense is huge and to miss that chance to see it because it has "Subtitles" is just sad, if you're a movie fan.

As a Korean, I believe that the inequality in S. Korea feels much intensified because of unique social issues in S. Korea (degree inflation, competitive culture, etc); partially described in the movie. The new book called “South Korea: Price of Efficiency & Success” is great to read.
