This was legendary Biff Byford of the band Saxons, he is by no means short of stature 1.85cm, and are currently 73 years, but Johan Hegg is simply a giant at almost 2 meters( 6' 6'') super mpressed by this song they both did here

Um.... I think he's a bit taller than 1.85 centimeters, mate.

Biff Byford (Saxon) is 73, but his voice hasn't aged at all. Truly a legend.

The second band is Saxon and the singer is Biff Byford. They’ve been around since the 70s. If you’re a fan of the last kingdom, surely you’ve recognized the name at the end of the song, Edington, which is the battle where King Alfred won over the Viking King Guthrum and had him convert to Christianity before becoming King of East Anglia.

The lead singer of Saxon was 72 when this was filmed (73 at this point in time). They've been active for a long, long time. Never had a huge following, but have been a good, steady metal band for decades. BTW, the Saxons ended up winning over the Vikings. :)

The relationships between the Vikings and Saxons is that the Saxons moved to England between 400 - 600 CE pushing out the romano-celts to Cornwall, Wales and Brittany (in modern France) and then the Vikings (often called by the English Danes) raided and invaded the North East of England and ultimately formed an area called the Danelaw. It is highly visible from the placenames in England where were Viking settlements and where were Anglosaxon ones. I lived on a road and at the top of the hill was Fixby (a Viking name) and at the bottom of the hill was Bradley (a Anglosaxon name). This all became a moot point when the Normans took over England following 1066 (The Normans were Vikings who had settled in Northern France and spoke a form of French)

This seems to be a collab with the British Heavy Metal band Saxon. The guy with the clean vocals is the singer of Saxon (they have been around since the late '70's and play, like you said, in the same genres as Iron Maiden), that's why it's such a strange shift. I only knew Saxon by name, but I have listened to early Amon Amarth until their mid to late 2000's albums and I can't remember ever hearing clean vocals in their music, so it was a surprise for me as well. I do think it works though, especially since it litteraly works as Vikings vs Saxons (basically people from the British isles) which was literally something that happened with the Viking raids all over Europe.

Thanks MaartenT for the info. I may have heard Saxon decades ago but they fell off of my metal radar. Gotta check out more of both.

I LOVE that the band they chose is named Saxons. Beautiful touch of intention. Thanks for letting me know!

Yep. I checked out some Saxon songs and definitely recall many songs of theirs I once listened to in the late 70's-early 80's. I migrated to Judas Priest soon after and never looked back.

"or if this will end in peace" You don't know the history behind the battle of Eddington 😂 the Vikings were ravaging northern England. When they thought the rest of England will fall they headed south and got smoked by the Saxon king of Wessex
