I did have a thought that could be fun to start or end each episode with an advice segment where you answer a handful of listeners design and project questions, like “what colors should I pair with plum walls,” “how do I know what size rug to buy,” or even “how to install a light.” Almost like “What Would Macenna Do” so we can borrow your eye on our projects as well as watching your work on yours! Even getting any guests opinion you have on that week could be a fun element to add different design opinions. As someone who calls her mom to this day for EVERY design question if I could bug someone else every so often I would love that! Plus your eye for the UNDERTONES…I mean c’mon…it just blows me away!! But I love the podcast just as it is, it is every bit as interesting and therapeutic as your videos, and I look forward to ALL your new episodes

I definitely would be like you in wanting to do as much of the renovation on my own so it influences homes I'd be interested in buying. I think my husband would be like Romeo, just buy the ready home! 😂 My husband is even a trades painter and he'd probably be like, hire someone I paint all day already. Lol

I love how you break it down as to how much you saved yourself. Not everybody I realize wants to do the DIY like you have done because it is a lot of hard work, but McKenna, give yourself a lot, a lot of credit for your kitchen cabinets do not critique them so perfectionist because if you think that computerized built cabinets don’t have little glitches like you do you need to go look at a new build home because I’m telling you, a human still has to run that machine, machines make mistakes and contractors, Don’t care like you do for the perfection part of it so give yourself 2000% credit for the beautiful, gorgeous an absolutely amazing kitchen that you have built because you have been more perfectionist about it than any, any builder whatever, but they just got slapped that shit on.

I’ve made a lot of things in my house like painting all my walls, putting some tiles, installing the laminate floor, transforming my French lamps to American lamps, and painting the outside of my home too, but honestly, I would have never imagined myself doing all what you did, especially all these kitchen cabinets, just wow! Crazy! (Good crazy). No doubt: I’m impressed. You have progressed so quickly on your different channels. I think that you are very good at everything around cutting wood. I would love to know how to do that, but as soon as I have to measure precisely, it never ends well… 😂 For the tiles, it’s different because I used to do a lot of mosaics, and also I used to be a mural artist/painter, so paint is easy for me. But wood, wow!
@Roroxane Жыл бұрын
One thing to say about cabinet doors and is it worth doing them yourself is that it's very repetitive. Yes it's repeatable and you can get in a flow, but it's also the best way to zone out and make mistakes that can cost wood, but even worse : fingers ! Be extra carefull with repetitive work with power tools and "getting in the zone"

I agree about the flooring! I have a new old house that needs the floors refinished and and while the quotes were very high (8K-10K) for about 800 sq ft, after watching you I decided I couldn't physically do it myself. Just means I have to save up to have it done, so for now the bedrooms get carpeted :D and in a few years we will have the floors done. I can't even imagine how much money you have saved on the materiel you "saved" compared to how much they would have cost new! I'm sure it's mind blowing.

You might want to think of doing a podcast on all your sponsors, even inviting one or two representatives to talk more about their products and how they have enhanced your living space, your everyday meals, bedding, etc. You are so good at what you do, I know you will come up with tons of ideas. Love your show!!!😊
@ritaevans7125 Жыл бұрын
Hope if you do this, you question Zocdoc about their television commercial, not the one you use as a sponsor here. It has a woman checking out doctors online. She says, "This one's too old, this one's too middle aged, this one's just right and has an appointment available tomorrow." Age discrimination doesn't need to be amplified. I would hope people would use the zocdoc service to gain background information and specializations rather than selecting a doctor by photo and age. I know you can do the podcast because of sponsors, but the commercial mentioned for Zocdoc definitely was a negative note through television, and that is not something I typically experience as I view media. It has left an unfortunate impression regarding the business for me. The same could be true for others, especially when followed by the same voice for Better Help immediately after.

Thank you so much for mentioning this! I hadn't heard of homeworthy, so I went over to check out the episode you recommended. Im so glad I did. Such a beautiful house and home!!! I loved absolutely everything in it and about it with one exception - I really hated the white fringe on her living room sofa. That's it. In an entire home, that's the only thing I wasn't head over heels in love with. That's a near impossibility! It's absolute perfection. Funny that it's not just that I wasn't in love with the fringe - I actively hated it! 😂
@snippetsordinarylife Жыл бұрын
I did go and watch. Her house is lovely although I find it somewhat bland except for that stunning dining room. I think what MaCenna's has done, is far more beautiful and oozes love and attention to detail. Maybe it is because she built so much herself and her energy oozes from everything. MaCenna's house should be featured on shows like this.

Good job,baby girl !! And, that touch of OCD, that makes you a bit of a perfectionist, i see as a huge advantage. You can tell if someone cares about a thing. Anything you make, create, or change, has your name on it, and it is so satisfying to claim that, when you can plainly see the thought and pride that was put into each project. And a hinge, or a drawer pull installed a fraction off, can affect the vibe, or even be a little jarring. I have been watching your reno from the beginning, in amazement. At your ambition, at your confidence, at your quick grasp of every new tool, and skill. Your parents must be so proud. Romeo has found an awesome partner. Much love, from Tennessee ❤️❤️

thanks for sharing! im looking forward to hearing your budget breakdown thus far. Would love to hear how do you decide the wall treatments- e.g. beadboard, trim, casings, etc for the rooms you're working in? I know in a previous video you've talked about being inspired by the style of the house you're in, but you also keep it from looking too matchy matchy and don't do the same treatment in every room (it was actually encouraging hearing that after the major foundational work your house was more of a white box, because you've made it so beautiful with all your finishes. My house is currently in that blank box stage) I would enjoy hearing your process. :)
