After their trip in the Shi'ar Empire the X-Men came back with some of their technology, Hank used it to upgrade the mansion, the X-Jet and the Danger Room to a full hard light environmental simulation. Normally by that point Cyclops visor should be operated by synaptic control, with conventional switches for backup.

I think Cyclops has a mini field around his skin absorbing force into another dimension, giving himself immunity to the force effects of his blasts. He can turn off this field when he wants. When he punches through a mountain, he has the field on, here he has it off, so it essentially only creates normal contact force with the earth, decelerating Cyclops
