As an installer with 10+plus years experience trained by an installer that did for 34 years working in multimillion dollar homes, you always use primer. No.exceptions, it's not an issue of the wall being damaged, but also proper adhesion of the wallpaper itself

I really like your comment; but I can tell you this, if your walls have semi gloss paint, and they are textured, there is far less need for primer

@@spencercolgan the reason I recommend it on any surface is to promote Adhesion which is far better on wallaper primer rather than semi or full gloss, plus we all have to remember certain wallcoverings can't be used with any primer. In addition to it there are still some homes with old or even new semi and full glosses that are oil based. Most wallpapers are not fit to be installed on oil based surfaces and will simply fall off the wall within 2 weeks. That is why I always apply primer.

On the bare plaster, in my geographical area, wallpaper hangers use diluted wallpaper glue for so called sizing the wall before hanging the wallpaper.

Hello. What do I need to wallpaper with paste to wall non vinyl wallpaper over rv interior wallpaper which I believe is vinyl? I was going to use Roman pro 880 for the adhesive. Is that the best option and should I use a primer also and if so what? I was also going to begin with krud kutter to prep.

@@spencercolgan i don't think that's an option. I believe they are pre fab boards. Should i opt for peel and stick? I just assumed the heat in storage would be bad for that application.

Excellent question. The basic answer is yes, you can wallpaper right over the primer but, some primers are better than others. If you are endowed, please make sure that your primer is not a cheap one; I highly recommend shieldz clear For just about any patchwork that you are doing; make sure your wall is not bumpy before you hang your paper; shut off your lights and take a flashlight and put the flashlight flat if against the wall allowing the light to hug every curve of the wall and you will see how perfect your walls are or how imperfect your walls are

Hi, i have a question about the procedure to glue wallpaper over nem drywall. In your prof. opinion whats the best way. 1- paste direct wallpaper or vynilwallpaper over the drywall ? 2- prime over the drywaçç and than glue the wallpaper ? 3- prime the drywall , than liningpaper over the drywall and just after this i put wallpaper ? 90% of the time, it is best to follow the directions on the wallcovering as to what you should glue, the wall or the paper. 10% of the time, it is discretionary. Always prime new drywall with Gardz. Then wait a day and hang paper.

Kinda disagree. The answer to the question of prime or not to prime is always yes. Don't know why you wouldn't. Primer is cheap. There are other advantages of using primer. You can have it tinted to the background color of the paper. That allows you to see the color on the wall and decide whether it's the right color for you. Also, if you don't get your seams perfect, (who can get them 100%), any background that peaks through will be far less noticeable. Especially if you put a dark wallpaper on a light background, or vice versa.
