I was struggling with "sirening" for quite some time - that frustrating midway broken yoddle (still smoothening my primo passagio) and what not...But right after your video I made a breakthrough. Right from the first couple of tries!!!!! I need to believe it now. The body technique you taught did a miracle, the passagio smoothened right away. Hi, Arden! I got Mathilde Marchesi's bel canto book for Christmas. The very first exercise, you start at middle C and go up chromatically to F5. You sing each note for 3 beats, slowly. It is all about a balanced onset. Neither an h before, nor a glottal stroke. At first, I was having a hard time. I would attack strait tone, and then the vibrato would come in. But, I remembered this video! So, I sirened on each pitch twice, and held it out for the 3 beats on the third time. It helped so much! You are absolutely correct! No one tries to sound beautiful and perfect when they siren! Therefore, you get the feeling of when the air starts before you siren the pitch, and you can apply that timing to the longer held pitch. You just hold the pitch longer, and don't slide off the third time around. And, because you are still in siren mode, you have your most natural sound and vowel placement! Best of all, without freaking out that you might not 'sing" the long held notes correctly, with dragging up too much weight from the chest register! Arden, you are so brilliant! Thank you so much!
