In SMB1 hacks, I can understand the appeal of hidden blocks more-so than any others: it is one of few unique gameplay elements. Besides coins and solids and question blocks and brick blocks you've pretty much covered the entire palette of things. Sure, platforms exist, and pipes and I guess vines too... but hidden blocks are the only way to complicate a screen without resorting to some sort of deadly spam like fire bars, hammer bros or whatever other enemy. Hidden blocks can be used to encourage careful play as opposed to blind jumping about... which is a good thing to prolong replay value given how limited SMB1 is in terms of its capabilities.

Invisible blocks can definitely add tons of value to gameplay! They definitely don't do that by making you afraid of constantly hitting one, which is what it sounds like you are saying is good lol. That's like saying hitting invisible walls in tick tock clock in sm64 is good and you should've just been more careful!

if you are looking for NES hard games to add to your marathon, Bionic Commando is hard, but less so than Ninja Gaiden or Battletoads. Amazing game too. Bubble Bobble is only medium difficulty but a classic.

To be honest, SMB1 did all the enemies at the same level before. 8-2. It feels out of the place because of all the different enemies and no consistency. Hammer Bro physics in this hack are out of this world. Level design seems cool although I disagree with some of the enemy placements and hidden blocks. Cool hack and glad you beat it. Tower RE was on the poll couple of weeks ago and I think it is a really cool hack. Challenging, yet fair. Keep up the good work, Kosmic!

the 1-2 clip is way harder. that might be why you can’t. and also, one of the clips he does is very easy. all you have to do is stand a little under a block then jump and you’ll clip in. then spam jump and hold the opposite direction.

You should check out Super Mario Ultimate it's a SMB3 romhack with a lot of interesting new things, made by Silas. You can find it in romhacking. To be honest, it has been one of my favorite SMB hacks overall since it's release in 2018. Would be cool to see your thoughts on it too!
