What a spectacular classic toad in the whole recipe. I love that you made your own batter and gave it time to develop in flavors. And that onion brown gravy just looks so rich and delicious to go along with those Lincolnshire sausages wow what a spectacular recipe

I love this idea for a series!!! One of our bucket list travel destinations is the UK / Britain. The best food in our travels is always in the local gems, like pubs. I’ve never heard of this before.

When I make the batter do I put it in the fridge to develop?
@DomBill16 ай бұрын
Hey Dan, I don’t think this makes a lot of difference tbh. Keep at room temp aswell, because if it’s chilled it will just bring down the temp in the pan.
@dankelly4066 ай бұрын
@@DomBill1 legend thanks for the reply, I ended up just making the batter last minute and putting it in, pleased to say after following your great video, it turned out perfect 😃 thanks Dom! 👌🏽

Amazing comforting food: simple, yes, but oh so tasty. My simple recipe for beginners: a container, glass or cup. Fill container with flour, put in bowl, fill container with eggs, add to bowl, fill container with milk, add to bowl. Add a little salt and mix and then leave for a few hours, then continue as your recipe. Almost foolproof for the beginner.

I lived 4! years in the UK and NEVER had 'toad in the hole' OR 'fish n' chips' (the vinegar in that dish turned me off of trying it - just the idea of putting vinegar on fried food makes me shudder). Your "toad in the hole" looks *amazing* and impressive! The most gorgeous of all the videos I've watched. I'd try yours w/o batting an eye lid right away.

I live in mainland Europe now and haven't been back since the p[l]andemic. It feels like there was a distinct 'cut' since they enforced all these measures @@DomBill1, a shame, really!

Do you have a link to where you got your roasting Tin? It is so pretty! I’m in canada but would ℒℴ𝓋ℯ to get one like it. I was worried the batter might have been too thin. I did the measurements by scale for the flour and used the uk measurements as listed. It’s cooking as I speak and I think I’m the end it may have worked fine. I checked at the 25 min mark and it’s not done yet so added another 5. I also had to add some cornstarch to the onion gravy as 300 ml stock made it quite runny. With cornstarch to thicken it , it worked

Okay, I waited all the way to the end to see if you would answer the question before I posted it. Why is it called this??
@jayandjennyb3 жыл бұрын
Refers to the way toads wait for their prey in their burrows, making their heads visible in the earth, just like the sausages peep through the batter. 🙂

Good recipe but could I ask a favour. Unfortunately a lot of good cooks fail to give a list of ingredients and at the beginning of the video so that I can make sure I have those items in the cupboard, and to hand, and prepared, when following you. Having to continuously pause and rewind for us learners who are not as quick, is a bit of a pain. Hope your not offended. Thank you for the delicious recipe.
