My country Philippines being a still developing country is still struggling economically and most of the Filipinos have to fight it out through hard labor to survive. Singing does become our stress reliever (not necessarily as a form of competition though talents are discovered accidentally this way) after a day's work and our way of socializing with relatives and friends, sharing pleasantness over few bottles of liqour or the native coconut wine called "tuba". Thanks for sharing this modern Filipino norm through. You give the Philippines a chance for the world to know our folkways.
@rafaelsmith57372 жыл бұрын
I really like how foreigners get freak out by the singing ability of the Philippines But if you're in here, you can literally hear those middle aged or old men sing those notes like it's nothing It's just "casual" for them and they aren't even trying Like my dad and his pals They are on their 70's and some are already in their 80's but they can still sing so well without missing a note or vibrato High notes? No problem They can even still do it even if they are drunk and what's crazy is that none of them are singers because most of them are farmers and they are just chilling out

Even well known singers are scared of Filipino audiences because they seemed hard to please. But it is only because people are really good at singing and would know when a tune is good or bad, or when singers go off key, miss the right notes,. or went sharp or flat.

Thank you so much Justin for praising these Filipinos. I love how you say, “what’s in the water in the Philippines.” Just an FYI, in the Philippines, when families or friends get together, singing is a thing. It’s how we entertain ourselves and enjoy. And this happens on a weekly basis, or at times daily after work or school friends gather round for just a fun night. Although, not all, but quite a lot of them would.

I agree. When internet was not a thing in the past, every night on our street, there were group of friends would gather in front of someone's house and would sing together, and sometimes there would be someone playing his/their guitar. I know this because it happened every night across our house.

The thing that’s crazier about these karaoke videos.. is the fact that it’s probably the 99th song theyve sang for that karaoke session.. haha. Karaoke sessions last for hours.. and if there’s a celebration of sort.. well it can go from morning till very late at night.. or dawn. Depends. If it’s a festival/fiesta.. well a whole day.. karaoke every household.

You're so amazing Justin Burke... I really hope that one of these days, you could make that trip to my motherland. I am not sure where you are in the US but in Los Angeles, there are so many Filipinos and some of them just kill the weekend hanging out and singing Karaoke hahaha! But you still need to make it to the Philippines and while there, you may even get lucky and hear Ronnie Liang perform.. he's got a KZbin channel and he's got both Tagalog and English songs... check him out!

Singing lessons or voice training is like non-existent in the Philippines . Video games are expensive but singing is free and fun😂 and I sang in school programs or competed without any formal training. I also taught myself how to play the guitar at age 10. 2 years later, I played guitar every Sunday in High School for our students’ mass. Then years later,I became the guitar player/choir member for the Catholic Filipino Community Choir here in the US☺️. Practice makes perfect, trial and error, just enjoy! 😅 Like these guys. The more you practice, the better you’ll be at it.
