This movie covers the hard times for a lot of people then, poverty, violence, theifery, depression, anxiety, excitement, and needy hate, faith, love and hope, hunger, survival, and no or little education. Great movie. 😊

JA ! This is what was or they thought was a comedy back in nineteen and forty three. And a mighty good movie too. The only thing is those darn commercial interruptions just to many and to often too enjoy this movie.

I remember watching this when I was young, I even understood that this film set out to ridiculul a section of its own people! Made them to be as a little people, after they considered them to be of no use anymore. In reality a fine hard working people, made out to be subhuman and othered and Mocked them.

yep and hellywood is a thousand times worse now, denigrating and blaming whites for everything and falsely framing our entire history, same as they do in schools.

I can clearly see why this played so long in NY. I guess it confirmed everything they ever heard about the South. A result of the war of Northern Aggrestion.

Unwatchable. Bailed after 20 minutes. The characterizations are much too exaggerated and over played. It's like some bizarre film version of Lil Abner. I can't imagine sitting for 90 minutes of this. And HOW did they talk Gene Tierney into doing this?
