I'm a long-time USWNT fan, feminist and Title IX advocate. I've watched way too much women's soccer - games, replays and podcasts - since the Olympics began. Today was my day to take a break, go outside, do laundry, etc. But... tonight I found myself scrolling around KZbin looking for a short fun nightcap, and I came across this episode. I loved (and miss) Christen and Tobin's magic on the field and am a big Sydney L fan, so I put it on, expecting about 15-20 mins of interesting soccer talk. I ended up watching the whole thing, >1 hour, and loving every minute! Yes, it was about the current USWNT and these Olympics, but it was so much more. I laughed, teared up, learned a few things from this sharp, thoughtful, funny. experienced from both hosts and guests. And since Crystal is one of the best of the best, I truly appreciated the very positive shout-out to her. THIS WAS THE BEST SPORTS PODCAST I'VE EVER WATCHED!

Former soccer player here. I always watch the reels on IG, but this is my first time watching a full episode. I love it, and clearly have a lot of catching up to do. I remember watching Tobin Heath play in The College Cup when I was younger in absolute awe. I always like seeing the pursuits/lanes that athletes choose once they leave their respective sports. It’s also really cool to see Christen in this light, especially following her return. And the tie looks great! Coming back after having made the above remarks to say that Merritt talking about Blackness in sports and giving Syd props is making me tear up. As an African-American, I only played on one club team my entire life where I wasn’t the only Black girl/woman.

its super interesting that you all perceive Crystal being named as a forward as something Emma did to validate her psychologically... I definitely perceived it as primarily strategic, because in the leadup to the tournament, it forced and/or led other teams to craft their attacking strategy against the US under the assumption that their RWs would be matched up against Jenna instead of Crystal, who are two fairly different players.. especially strength-wise. I'm sure the coaching staffs all plan for multiple scenarios (or resort to spying lol coughcanadacough) but with an awareness of Emma's personality, I genuinely suspect it was a tactical red herring😅

I honestly don't remember seeing a USWNT team play tired until now, because we have, for the most part been the fittest team and see them dominate in the past, as well as get subbed. But emma picked 'on the bubble' injured players so i think she must not see much depth to be able to risk with subs. Brasil is the only team that still has a ton of energy. Looking forward to the final

Re; Jaedyn Shaw....wasn't it the semi final v Germany that Kelly O. went in for the first time and scored the winning goal? In re: Emma Hayes and subbing.....this looks like she sees her vision of a team "foundation" as the #1 goal preparing for the next World Cup, rather than fielding a team that still has no cohesive unit ALL on the same page - aka the U.S.W.N.T. the past too many years.
