Toby got released from his label and wrote this song as his FU for not believing in him
@seanscanlon90674 жыл бұрын
Not trying to be a dick here but that's partly true and the whole album was recorded (including this song) but his then recorded company only liked a couple of the tracks from it which did not include this one. He then recorded a few more songs but they were still not happy, so he asked to have his contract cancelled and be released and bought the rights to the album to take with him to a new record company.

I would love to see you react to "I wanna talk about me!" BTW: A little trivia: "How Do You Like Me Now" has a double meaning. It was the first song off an album with a new label where he had had more control. Record execa told him he'd never last doing this kind of music because he'd turn off female listeners and guys follow ladies to concerts. They were wrong! Women love Toby's music because a lot of it is what WE think giys think! So "How Do You Like Me Now" was also a question to fans on the new sound...different from "Blue Moon" and "Shoulda Been A Cowboy".

This is my favorite song of his. I love how the music at the end is taunting, like "nanny nanny boo boo". Another song in a similar vein that you might like is "You Broke Up with Me," by Walker Hayes. Even though the lyrics are addressed to a woman who broke up with him and wants to get back together, he said he actually wrote it in response to the people who abandoned him while he was starting out but then tried to come back into his life after his career started taking off.

My Toby Keith story. I was a casino dealer and he was having a show where I worked. After the show, he comes into higher limits room and sat at my table. I was like that table(not mine) is reserved for you and he said "Well I got good feeling about you, I'll play here if you don't mind" When I tell you we had a ball on my game that night, it's an understatement! He really didn't believe I was a fan and asked to sing my favorite song of his. Of course I started singing this and he along with the others with him sang with me!! He was a great guy and we talked and joke like old friends. As he was leaving, he left a nice tip and sang little less talk! He made my night! To think, I wasn't even gonna go to work that night!!

I do not think "flexing" is petty when the person who dissed you in the first place did it so hard and hurtful that they had the flex coming to them. I am the oldest of five kids who grew up dirt poor in the south, and we were told regularly that we would grow up to be nothing but the dirt under our feet by the people around us. We all finished school, and we are all doing well. My youngest brother had a "how do you like me now" moment when he saw an old school mate in Las Vegas. My brother owns a very successful business with customers who are CEO's, celebrities, and sheiks and other royalty from around the world. He said it was a satisfying moment and he didn't have to denigrate the guy at all, the success he achieved was enough to tell him to STFU! In real life that moment is much better! I love the video, and thanks for doing it! 😃❤️

had something similar happen last year. one of the people who bullied me in school applied for a job where I worked and my boss had me do the second interview. He didn't recognize me at first but after I started asking questions he figured out who I was, the look on his face was priceless. what's even funnier is that he asked if I would put in a good word with my boss for him. Dude didn't get the job, but not because of the history between us but because he straight up lied about his criminal history on the application( we do a background check on everyone).

He’s not being a “Petty Betty” IMO. Keith discussed the inspiration for the song on his website in 2000. "Initially, I said, 'Here's my title: "You Never Loved Me Before, So How Do You Like Me Now?” It's one of my catch-phrases. A lot of people become successful after they've been told they won't ever be, so people can relate to this. It can be about an old flame or a boss or a teacher -whatever it means to each individual. It was a fun song to write.”
