Wow...I was NOT prepared for the wave of emotions that hit me listening to Toby Keith's "American Soldier" for the first time. By the end, I was bawling so hard I probably needed medical attention to replenish my lost fluids! This song wrecked me in the best possible way. From the powerful lyrics honoring soldiers' sacrifice to Toby's unbelievable vocals, it overwhelmed me. I started crying 1 minute in and couldn't stop for the entire rest of the video! Get ready to watch a complete mess try and fail to hold back sobs and tears listening to a brand new contender for most emotional song ever. RIP my tear ducts!

I’ve been re-watching reactions to Toby’s songs for the last couple of hours and I’m crying too. This one, and Cryin’ for Me, and Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue, always get me bawling my eyes out. I’m getting ready to listen to Don’t Let the Old Man In for the first time so I’m keeping my tissues near by. I’m a new subscriber… I appreciated your sincere heartfelt reaction 💕

As an old divorced fourth generation disabled vet with TBI and PTSD, was homeless about 3 years, existing under a VA program for homeless vets where i spend most of the time alone fighting the battle within. I'm not saying this for pity or anything in that nature. I remember what my dad ( a WW2 wounded vet ) told me before I went in. He said, no matter what happens when you are in, you will need to accept the outcome of those actions as your steps and your outcome. Don't expect the government to be there for you. Look at the no help your two brothers got ( nam vets ). You do this not for the government, president or party. You volunteer "give" all you have for the time you serve for the constitution and the people. You don't put strings on gifts, so don't look for others to bear the responsibility of your actions. He was right. It was my choice, my steps , my actions and my outcome. It is what it is. Salute to my brother and sister veterans. May you be finding peace with the battle within.

Retired Air Force. My comrades died, but they live through me and my stories of them. Your Grand dad is watching you and lives through you and saying his name. As long as someone can say their name, they never die. It takes time, but it will come when the stories and antics bring laughs and chuckles instead of tears. I'm giving you a big bear hug and hope your tears of joy start taking over.

This song speaks to me so much. My father served 22 years in the Navy. Growing up I saw not only the sacrifices he made but that the rest of my family made. The missed holidays, birthdays, and other family events. He was still in when I myself joined the Army Reserves. The ship he was stationed on was doing overhauls when I got the call up to be deployed as part of Desert Shield in November 1990. I wasn't able to see him before I shipped off for Saudi Arabia. I left in the morning and his ship returned home that afternoon. It wasn't until my unit returned home in May 1991 that I was finally able to see him. Sadly my father passed away in 2009. Every time I hear this song it reminds me of him.

I am the 3rd generation of 4 who served. My Grandfather lost his lung to mustard gas in WWI. My dallld worked on Mustangs and PBYs during WWII. I was lucky, I served during the Cold War and never saw combat in the USAF. When I got out I worked for Navy Intel for 25ish years. My most impressed action I saw was my oldest joining the army after hearing all mine and my Dad's service stories. So he was the 4th generation.

Thank you so much for reacting to this as we suggested It wasn't that I or we wanted to see you cry again, but I knew it would hit you harder than Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue because it's more personal on a family level. I was deployed 8 months before this song was released in November of 2003 and when my 10 year old son ran up and held on to me while i was standing in Formation about to Fall Out to board the bus. I almost lost it. The shots of the soldier looking back at his family. I have a picture my dad took of me doing the same thing right before getting on the bus. It could have been the last glance we ever had of eachother, but thank God i made it home. I had an old skeleton key that I found somethere a few months before leaving, that I just got the idea of giving it to my son the night before i left and i had a talk alone with him and, I told him to keep that old key and, each day hold it in his prayer hands and say a little prayer that Daddy will come home safe and I told him that I will. It was the most emotional feeling I ever had with him as we both welled up at the same time and just hugged eachother, both crying. He promised that he will. and I told him to believe it when he prays and God will take care of me and I will be back. After I came home 14 months later. I ask him the next day if he still had the key, and did he say his prayers for me. He said, "I did Daddy, but I lost the key but still said the prayers, but forgot to some nights because I fell asleep before I got to.". I told him well what praying he did worked because I came home like I promised. My dad went to war in his early twenties in Korea 11 years before I was born. So, I didn't get to see him leave for war. My son did get to see his dad leave because I was in my early forties at the time but had already served 23 years in service during two earlier war time operations.

My paternal grandfather lied about his age to enlist early for WW1. He made it through the war, but had been badly gassed at the Somme and did not live to see any of his grandkids. His example led me to to her majesties naval reserve (which was sadly cut short by getting RIFed) and to this day, I do not feel properly dressed on November 11th without a red poppy in my lapel. It is very clear you honor your grandfather as much as I honor mine. "At the going down of the sun, and in the morning... We will remember them."

Thank you for your grandfathers service ❤ My great-grandfather and his brother both served military duty during WW2 My great-grandfather was a fighter pilot in different air raid squadrons in the RAF both as a pilot and an engine mechanic. His brother/my great-granduncle was a ship captain in the Cunard liners and was drafted in to transport injured, dead and new soldiers back home and out to the frontlines. His ship was torpedoed on the 7th trip to the front lines but luckily he managed to get everyone and himself off the ship before it went down. After the war my great-grandfather and his brother were highly disdinguised/decorated by king george/the father of The late Queen Elizabeth the 2nd. I never knew my great-grandfather or his brother because they both passed away some years before i was born My grandmother when she was alive (god rest her soul🕯❤🕊) told me many heroic storys about them and to me they will always be my heroes and rolemodels. Listening to this on Saturday very early morning of Memorial Day weekend. Thanks so much for posting this Belle! I served in Vietnam in 1967-68 with B company 2nd of the fifth, First Air Cavalry Division air mobile. I was an infantry soldier that saw way too much action. Our Company was ambushed and we lost half of our men near Dong Ha just South of the DMZ. It was on May 12th 1968, which was unfortunately Mother’s Day. What a horrible day to lose so many soldiers. So sad for the mothers of these Honorable Soldiers. Rest in Peace my Brothers!

He had a draft deferment cuz he made the Lenses for the Norton Bomb sights that went in the B17s (& maybe some other Bombers). He didn't hv a HS diploma but became an adjunct professor at a local college teaching people how to fabricate the lenses. Everyone had a job to do. Ms. "Liberty Belle Reacts" relates that her grandfather was a Chaplain and a Colonel. My youngest daughter's husband's father (Jerry) was a retired Colonel and Chaplain in the United States Air Force. I, too, am a retired Air Force Colonel (not a chaplain) and I knew Jerry well. Unfortunately he passed away from cancer very soon after his retirement. My wife and I attended his internment ceremony on Chaplains Hill at Arlington National Cemetery. Jerry was a great man, and I lament he didn't have the chance to see his grandchildren grow as I do. But, I never miss a chance to let them know how special a man their "Pops" was.

War was hell for me, and the men and women I served with, but to this day, the most agonizing part was walking away from my wife and daughter to go on deployment.

I recently read Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton and this video reminds me of the first part of that book. Special Forces guys saw what happened on 9/11 and they knew they'd be getting a phone call soon. They had to act normally around their families but they knew they were going to get shipped out to deal some sort of response to the terror attacks.

Don't feel bad you get it you understand what it is and understand the sacrifice that our men and women make and that are in uniform too many people don't and take it for granted I have had family members involved in our military from the revolutionary war all the way up to present day and it's a sacrifice they'll do again and again and again it's what gives us our freedom 🤠😎🤠
