Some Background: After this performance on Sept. 28, 2023 @ People's Choice Country Awards, he managed a couple of more performances in Vegas in mid-December. In 2018, Keith met Clint Eastwood when Eastwood was working on his film "The Mule." Keith told Billboard he was surprised by the energy Eastwood had despite being 88 years old, & Eastwood remarked, "I don't let the old man in." Keith liked this line and immediately wrote the song about a man dealing with his increasing age. The song is in Keith's 2019 album Greatest Hits: The Show Dog Years, & featured in the film "The Mule." While not as strong, his voice still sounded clear & good here. Thanks.

Toby write this song for Clint Eastwood after he asked Clint, at his 88th birthday, how he kept working and Clint told him, "I don't let the old man in". Little did Toby know this would apply to him a few year years later. RIP Toby. Thank you for this reaction.

This is his greatest performance ever he already knew I think my opinion that he only had a little time left and he was making the most of it. I respected him the way he enjoyed taking his wife on his tours and the way he was there for his family

Wow, I am not ashamed to say I cried throughout that song. 😢 He was so damn young. Cancer sucks plain and simple. His voice of course wasn't as strong but still beautiful as it always was. Poignant lyrics that have a much sadder meaning now. Toby Keith was a master at fun and hilarious songs but also did emotional and patriotic ones as well. His song American Soldier really showcases his vocal abilities and is brilliantly written as is the video. RIP to a dear man and love to all those who loved him.

BACK STORY: Toby was playing in a Celebrity Golf Tournament with Clint Eastwood (Age 88). Toby asked Clint Eastwood, (who was still very active and about to start filming a new movie) how he manages to do stay so active and fit. Eastwood replied "I don't let the old man in." Toby went home, wrote the song and gifted it to Eastwood. Clint used the song in his new movie "The Mule"

@@tundiel So far so good, Chuey hasn't lost his eye yet. One of his pack members (my hubby's baby) has decided to start having seizures! In order to firmly diagnose she'd have to have an MRI and at 3500$ we are not doing that. She's an OLD gal, so we'll keep her comfortable and happy!

Toby was golfing with Clint Eastwood & Clint was working on his movie 'The Mule'. Toby asked how he keeps going at his age & Clint said I get up every day & I don't let the old man in. Toby went home & wrote this song & gave it to Clint for his birthday. Clint then used it in the movie 'The Mule'. Seeing him sing this last September it was a perfect song for this performance. He was receiving the People Choice Country Icon award that night. It was hard to watch, but I'm glad I did. He actually did 3 shows in Las Vegas in December too, but this was his last televised performance. I am grateful to have all his music to enjoy for years to come.

Don’t let The Old man in was written for the Clint Eastwood Movie “The Mule . The line don’t let the old man in was from Clint. Clint who is maybe 90 ish or late 80s was asked by Toby how he kept going? Clint is still producing movies, and Clint told him “I don’t let the old man in".

Thank you for reacting to him! Slowly we are losing the middle generation of singers that came after George Jones, Tammy, and Loretta. Alan Jackson does not perform anymore and Randy Travis just found his voice again. So, as a traditional country music thank you again.

Toby Keith played so many shows with the USO around the world for soldiers, sailors, and airmen fighting wars abroad, away from their loved ones. This is one of my favorite songs he played. My brother and I grew up in rural southwest Pennsylvania and everytime we were at a campfire party I would play this song on guitar and my brother would sing it. I hope you both watch and enjoy this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqTaq3mfeLV6rcksi=cYJ2HzS7hPiM56Y1
