GB Climbing ran an international competition simulation on the Olympic Titan wall at Parthian Climbing in Wandsworth, London.
As well as an international route setting team - including Olympic route setters - there were various climbing holds from the Olympic hold set.
There was also an international field of athletes that included both Alberto Gines Lopez (Tokyo Olympic Gold Medallist) - as well as Jakob Schubert (Tokyo Olympic Bronze Medallist).
There were 2 rounds of action across 2 days with both semi-final and final rounds.
In this video, Toby talks through his beta and scoring for the event... almost 50 days before the real Olympics kicks off in Paris.

Your personal insight into training, mindset, and beta are incredibly valuable! We are SO lucky to be able to peek behind the scenes at Olympic level climbers; NO ONE is making any content of Toby’s caliber to showcase all the training, highlights and lowlights of what it takes to be an elite climber in the Olympics. Keep up the great work, Toby!

I just came here after the Olympics. The insights make climbing so much more interesting. I didn't get it before - how climbing is more than just strength and technique. It's bloody amazing to see the problem solving, and the sheer elegance of everything! Wow. Mind-blowing. I'm a huge fan of this now. I also love how the competitors are all rooting for each other - like it's some sort of celebration of what the human body can achieve.

Also an extra observation and note of appreciation for being friendly/collegial with your fellow athletes when you're not climbing. @@TobyClimbing What is it about beetroot? Beetroots are rich in nitrate and anthocyanins. Both provide health benefits but it's primarily the nitrates that give the performance benefits. Once ingested, the nitrate is converted in the mouth by the local bacteria into nitrite. In the acidic conditions of the stomach, the nitrite is then converted to nitric oxide, which is absorbed into the bloodstream. Nitric oxide dilates blood vessels, which delivers oxygen more quickly to the muscles, so energy can be burned to fuel the exercising muscles. The result is that less energy is used for performance, which means it takes longer to tire.

The problem with that scoring system is that there is no easy translation/comparison between lead and boulder. And the whole idea of the Olympic score format is that both Boulder and Lead can be added together so they are equally important for the final result.
