An amazing story. Been watching since you entered the adult comps and I wasnt surprised for it all coming together for you in the end. So great to see the dedication that went in to all this and just puts what it means to be an Olympic climber in perspective! Amazing efforts.

After watching this doc and seeing how low mentally your training took you, it is brilliant to see your joy holding the medal, and your cheery curiosity with the final hold. ❤❤❤ congrats!

Sounds to me like your biggest advantage was that you had no injuries, no illness or any other setbacks? At least you didn’t mention any. (except for the overtraining)

Amazing video, really well put together. Was just wondering if you focus much on your diet or you feel like it doesn’t make much of a difference? Keep it up!

TLDR- He started climbing ata very young age and carried it on a super regular basis to become a semi pro where he could do nothing but training and climbing and then a pro to do that and get paid ? :P

I love the channel and love the videos so far but this one I have to say has some problems. I've stopped at 13:00 to write this comment. The content is great but please stop reading from a script. You can have one, but don't read from it. Please!!! Love you toby, Your Dad and all the hard work you've done but please stop reading from a script!!!!!

Dude, no offence but wasn’t it necessary to speak in that way? Not really natural… like watching breaking news. Whoever worked on your speech should learn from Magnus… you’re great climber though 👍💪 had a great time watching you performing in Paris 👏✌️

Nice video ty. Reminds me a short one about Brandon Wynn, retired gymnast and rings specialist (I believe). He simply explains that at some point if you want to get better you have to push harder by increasing training frequency, in other words, there is no such thing as "recovery".

The job you are doing communicating the nuances of high performance is exemplary. Thank you for sharing all of this incredible insider knowledge. A rising tide lifts all boats and I feel you will do great things for rock climbing public communication in your lifetime, if you wish.

Damn, so inspiring! I really hope that you not only keep succeeding, but that you will be able to always retain your love for climbing and your 'unserious' approach to competition (ultra serious training-wise clearly) that still lets you enjoy the ride. I can't say that you don't also make me feel like a lazy lump climbing half as slowly on boulders that can't even compare, but it inspires me much more. Thanks for the thorough vid!!

instantly teary eyed when i realized you’ve won gold, and when it hit you too, that stunned and a little confused face, checking it a few times still processing it, the way you hugged your dad Liam and your family, cameras following you and the crowd cheering sooo loudly for you…🥹it must have been sososo surreal and I’m so happy the moment was all yours to enjoy🥹 to have followed your progress over the years, seen how you fight, and what a great great support system you’ve got (espppp your DAD i have so much respect for him🥹) honestly… you have alrdy won in life😂 then to think about the olympics stage, it is big but it also is just the icing on the cake compared to the growth, the memories and the blessing of getting to do what you love every moment of your life with so much love and support. It has been such an inspiring and rewarding journey up til now, i’m so happy and proud of you and your team. Onto LA!!!

That was an amazing watch! So much work and dedication went into that gold medal. Do you perhaps have a video coming up where you go more in depth about your training and how you structured it? Never going to reach a level where I could handle those training volumes but that would be super interesting to see.

I love how you let us feel all the sacrifices it took you to come at such a high level. Sometimes we only see the good sides, strong climber succeeding on comp or on rock, but we barely see the imerged part of the iceberg and all the sacrifices it take to do so. Seeing your video, I realize that performing at such a level is not for everyone ! Good luck on your journey and congrats for the olympics !!

Thank you for this Toby. As an old man turning his life around, your words, journey and achievements are massively inspirational. Your mental battles particularly are very poignant to me. No matter what setbacks you face, you keep going and I sincerely thank you for that lesson 🤜 New to climbing and absolutely loving it 🙏
