Thank you for showing that almost any scene can be worth sketching. I’m new to urban sketching and have looked around a lot thinking, “That’s not attractive enough to sketch and paint.” You’ve proven that very wrong!

This was super-fun and eye-opening. I'm finding the more of your videos I watch, more more I understand the various "steps" and how to not quit with my painting after step 2 or 3! Thank you for your tutorials, they are wonderful.

Very interesting. Just goes to show how a boring scene (& yes, it WAS boring) can be transformed with a great sketch + vibrant colours! Leaving the sky negative gave a great result imo, & the spatter lifted it too 👍

Great topic and I definitely will try this. The sky is the limit if you can make boring scenes interesting.

I have found ALL of your sketches more wonderful than the actual « real » landscape because there is much more that your eyes focus on with your sketches.

Thank you Toby, nice to see some more controlled brushwork in the later stage. I think that really took it a new level, without being complicated or difficult.

I think a bit of sky would’ve been awesome! But that’s just my opinion… I love the sketch!! What a great idea also!!
@johntcroft3856 Жыл бұрын
Well that was really boring - NOT! I love your continuous line sketching technique. I do get bored if I have to draw everything out perfectly before I can hit the paint box, but your technique somehow helps me to get proportions right straight away. And as for the subject! Who would have thought that rather uninspiring view could turn into something so enchanting. Thanks so much for your inspiration.

I liked this--I teach watercolor at the Roswell Visual Arts Center in Roswell, GA, and I want to do some loose urban sketching. I want to loosen up and teach my students to be looser, so thanks. You took a pretty mundane scene and made it exciting. Thanks! I 've got some photos of Roswell, now if I can just stay lookse! Thanks

This has been so much fun. I slowed down the video speed and painted along and just love what I ended up with! It’s a very childlike piece of work with a sophistication that comes with years of experience. Thanks for sharing this!

I think they are really fun too, but I didn't know you could slow down the speed. I just keep pausing it. Thanks for mentioning that!

18:04 Thank you, I have been watching for a couple of months now and I have really loosened up my sketching and watercolours. I have always been so uptight and trying to be accurate in my sketching it was too much labor and not enjoyable. You have given me license 😂

I'm very sorry I missed this question! You can find my most recent video on waterproof inks for more information, but in shirt you should be careful which ink to put into your pen 🖋️

Thanks for commenting on the angle of your paper. I noticed in your other videos that the colors fall when applied and I had been wondering if your table was sloped. Is your paper always sloped?
@TobySketchLoose Жыл бұрын
I normally work flat, but then hold my paper at an angle if I want the colours to flow. When painting in watercolours then I work at a 10-15 degree angle and elevate my drawing board with a roll of masking tape propped underneath

Hi Toby,just found your channel, I really like it,I am going to have a go at urban sketching, but other than watercolour paint what other supplies do I need please
@TobySketchLoose Жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff - sorry for the delays in responding - check out urbansketch.co.uk/supplies for my recommended supplies - I've listed them by price/quality as well. I would suggest checking out this blog post - www.urbansketch.co.uk/blog/urbansketchingbeginnersblog It's got a few videos listed - at the beginning of most of them I talk about the supplies I'm going to use, that could guide you towards a style and minimum supply set you might need. You should find any supplies I'm talking about on my website in that link above too

I really enjoy your videos. I also have the same Moleskin 200 grams sketchbook and the paper buckles when I put water color on it. I guess I’m putting too much water on it but if I don’t I won’t get the right effect. Any advice?
