It was a nice change to hear someone talking about Singapore, a place where I'm suppose to be most familiar with since I was born here. Firstly, Clarke Quay is pronounce as Clarke "Key". If you wanted to try Singapore Sling, you should've gone to The Long Bar and Raffles Hotel. It was where the original Singapore Sling was concocted. And the reason why Clarke Quay was kinda quiet in the day simple because it is a night life place. The whole place come to life at night. The street bazaar u been was along Geylang Serai and this happens only during the month of Ramadan (Fasting month) for the Muslims. I'm surprise u didn't mention this or notice but Singapore is a melting pot of different races. This is something we are extremely proud of where people of different races and religions live together in harmony.

The spongey ingredient in the laksa is tau pok, a kind of fried beancurd, and the meat is actually cockles. The laksa broth is mainly made up of coconut milk by the way, giving it its iconic creaminess and fragrance. :) (Thanks to the kind soul for point out that it's cockles, not clams as I had previously commented. :))

I loved your entire trip here and showing how much you can still do with a decent budget. Everyone likes to complain that Singapore is expensive and yes, some aspects of Singapore are just insanely overpriced, but many other things are pretty cheap and affordable! And you got the true Singapore experience because of that. I think Crazy Rich Asians (the movie) also pretty much messed up a lot of people's perspective of Singapore.

@@TeleeFONE A small island that attracted 20 million visitors annually (pre pandemic) is proof that there are attractions enough.
@TeleeFONE
@TeleeFONE 2 жыл бұрын
@@sktoh4469 Many of the visitors came because of transit flight, coz most flight from other countries flies to Singapore before you are able to fly to another country, not by choice. If you saw many KZbinrs, also they had no choice because of transit and had to stay in Singapore a couple of days, is this considered tourism? The number of people who really had the intention to really visit Singapore is probably much lower than that. But then there are those who came to see certain attractions, coz Singapore market itself well, but many don't have a positive impression of Singapore after a few days when they experience the reality, Singapore is known to be expensive, overrated, boring and stressful, many travel blogs and chat groups have said such of Singapore.
@PantsuMaster
@PantsuMaster 2 жыл бұрын
@@TeleeFONE Yeah you’re right, Singapore is more for Singaporeans than for tourists. For the people staying longer. That’s the problem. Your view is based on the fact that you don’t even actually visit Singapore FOR Singapore. You’re not trying to enjoy it here. That’s why these guys had lots of fun. Because they went to the places most tourists don’t actually go to. To truly experience the fun stuff, you’d have to stay for longer and go to places most Singaporeans actually visit, which most tourists don’t do. Either you have a lot of money to enjoy the full Singapore TOURIST experience, or you have a decent budget and you get to truly experience the SINGAPOREAN fun. That’s the difference.

We have bazaar Ramadhan only once a year during fasting month. I’m glad you managed to experience it as the bazaar wasn’t around the last 2 years due to the pandemic. It’s packed with people queueing for food to break their fast. It’s also where they sell so many things like clothings and lights etc to prep for hari raya which is a holiday the muslims celebrate over here right after Ramadhan. I love seeing tourists exploring Singapore. Hope you had a great time here. Do come visit again to try out the things you missed out on! Have a safe trip to Vietnam!

I am glad to see that you have enjoyed yourself very much in Singapore. Murtabak is best eaten immediately after it is cooked. It would have a crispy texture. Yes, as commented by one of your viewers, Singapore Sling was first concocted by the Raffles Hotel ( Long Bar) in the 19th century. Raffles Hotel is one of the oldest hotels in Singapore, it’s nice to walk around the place. In the old days, you could get a free postcard giving you the recipe of Singapore Sling. Hope you could return to Singapore for another visit.

'Quay' is pronounced key, though a lot of people do get it wrong the first time they come across the word heh Laksa is a coconut curry noodle dish. It usually comes with taupok (fried beancurd), bean sprouts, fishcake and the "meat" you couldn't figure out was probably cockles. Murtabak is prata stuffed with meat, egg and onions. Mutton is definitely the more popular choice for meat, though it does have a stronger taste so it isn't everyone's preference. Another popular mutton dish if you're ever back in Singapore to try is mutton soup. They're not very common but are usually found in hawker centers, a little bit pricey but if you're a fan of the taste then its a good way to really savour the meat and soup on its own.

Haha I think you went too early, people go there to drink/party, not really an afternoon activity. The “authentic ” singapore sling is at raffles hotel, not really sure if its better though(have not tried it there lol)

the number 1 place to go in Singapore for murtabak is Victory restaurant on the Arab street that has a fierce rivalry with its next-door rival "zam zam" and customers are fiercely loyal to one. and the only murtabak u should have is the mutton. also if u come back maybe next year for the Ramadhan bazaar or maybe in 2 years, I'll Love it even more. this year because of covid, there are only 70 stalls. pre-covid we have on average 500-600 stalls. it's massive.

First of all, thanks for dropping by Spore. Clarke Quay (pronounced as "key") is a old part of Singapore and is at the other end of Boat Quay (which leads to the Marina Bay/Gardens by the Bay). Situated very close to Clarke Quay is the pretty Robertson Quay park connector which offers a pretty nice walking path along the river that will take you to the nice Zion Road Hawker Center by the river. You should try the famous Char Kueh Teow (dark fried soya sauce noodles) here. It is rated one of the best in Singapore :-)

LOL... Both of you when to Clark Quay... A place known for its NIGHT life... In the afternoon... And wonder why its 'Quiet'.... 😂 But you got the Singapore Sling anyway 👍 Anyway... The original Singapore Sling is created at the Raffles Hotel... You should spend that little extra to get it there next time... Safe trip in Vietnam... Will be waiting for videos if your motorcycle trip 🤗

Singapore Sling originates from Raffles Hotel. If there's another chance, perhaps you can try ' the original' Singapore Sling? If not you can tour Raffles Hotel also. Has quite a history, that hotel

Mutton is sheep meat. An older sheep but not lamb however it can also be goat meat! It is very strong. We used to eat a lot of mutton in NZ . Not quite so much now. Best very slow roasted or curry.
@OnePackWanderers
@OnePackWanderers 2 жыл бұрын
We later learned this particular mutton was very likely goat. And it tastes very strong indeed! Would like to try it slow roasted.
