In my situation the abuse came from my mother and stepfather and when not wanting to tell adults as a child but would voice my dislike or concern about my mother in other ways, I would always get the response "but that's your mother". I also was kidnapped by my mother and stepfather which was confirmed last year. Again, because it was a family member people don't seem to think it's an issue.
