In the Megyn Kelly TODAY series “Secrets: Telling My Truth,” mother Maggie Kneip tells Megyn Kelly how she kept her husband’s AIDS diagnosis a secret for years, even after he died of complications from the condition and left her alone to raise their two children at the height of the AIDS epidemic. Kneip makes the revelation in her new book, “Now Everyone Will Know.”

I worked on an AIDS Unit in 1985. Even if infected, it wouldn’t always show up on a blood test for 4-6 months. This is why people who had recently donated blood were later infecting patients via blood transfusions. We even had patients who were diagnosed with leukemia after they’d received blood transfusions from donated blood from Japan (blood tainted from survivors of Hiroshima & Nagasaki atomic bomb effects-who were still carrying mutations from the radiation).

My thoughts are with you with compassion and understanding! My brother, Steve, passed in 1991. I helped him keep it a secret from family until he was ready to let it be known. It was tough! They had a hard time accepting. I only wanted to support and love him!I even made a panel for The Names Project Memorial Quilt, participated in benefits that he stood for, and became a local speaker without them knowing. They just wanted to forget and pretend. I, on the other hand, wanted to make sure he did not die in vain. If we can have soul mates other than romantic, Steve was/is truly mine! And, I am blessed to feel his presence every day! 💗

Truth IS subjective tho. There's an extent to which you can be subjective without lying but communication issues often brew where people's perception miskead them but they are very certain in what they believe to be true. You're not wrong, though it's much harder to get back on the antiretrovirals once the HIV-infected patient's unable to afford the meds. Even the late Larry Kramer had to really scold several younger LGBTIQA people because he knew what the side effects were and experienced those side effects himself. And that's not taking into account the risk of HIV superinfection, which happens when an HIV-infected person carries more than one strain of HIV at the same time.

Whether you are in a monogamous relationship or not, you should test yourself on a yearly basis and at the end of each relationship. If your partner doesn't want to be tested, you still test yourself and inform him/her. This will discourage some men or women to cheat cause they will easily be caught. Or at least you will detect on a timely manner any STD you may have caught and who gave it to you. People do stuff because they think they won't be caught. So by being tested on a yearly basis, the other person will think twice before cheating and if the person cheats, he/she will use protection. As for me, married or not, I get tested. All the trust thing is a thing of the past. Yes we have to trust, but we must also be wise. We have to love with the heart as well as the mind. I'm glad this lady did not catch it with her kids.

I suspect partly click bait, but she is a mother of 2 children who kept a secret about her (deceased) husband (their father). They just made it kinda weird the way they phrased it

I don't think he knew he had aids? He did sleep with men which he didn't tell her, fair enough, but that doesn't really mean in every case you would automatically get it. And back then it's not like many were super educated other than that it kills, but perhaps he was too afraid to get checked or didn't think he had it because it doesn't always show signs until it's too late. We live in a bit of a more open time where many are now okay to get tested, but even with straight people there was this huge stigma around getting tested for any STDs and mix that with same and uneducation it turns into a mess. As much as I can see the view of people hating him keep in mind the time, the mental aspect and the fact that you don't know all the details.

God was watching over her and her kids, it’s a shame that her husband was not honest about who he really was.... John has now passed way. I think 🤔 men and women need to be honest with themselves and the people they really love....

The way i understood the title was that the husband stayed alive for 25 years, and then she told. But he died not even a year after (long time ago) soooo OK he was not honest with you, but you tested yourself and your children and you were all fine. Why you write a book 25 years after? Let the man rest. He was not the perfect husband but still the the father of your children.

Sleep with men. Get married not tell her you have not HIV but aids and have 2 children. But then pass away at 36 very young to men out there that live this life is it worth it. To die young. Wear condoms or stop going back and forth to both sexes. Those kids were at risk as well as her that’s not fair.
