Fully agree. Gofundme shares a lot of blame here for lack of measures in place that make sure the intended recipient receives the money. I don’t feel I can trust gofundme from here on out and I feel a lot of people agree with this.

One of my best friends first child, 21 years old passed away... We setup a gofundme to raise $5k for funeral expenses... We ended up raising over $9k . When all was said and done he donated the remaining left over money to charity. He also requested nobody buy flowers, instead put the flower money in a charity bucket. Flower money collected almost $3k!! Imagine that! Flowers just wilt away... That flower money went to children's mercy hospital.

In my opinion, the couple didn't think that much money would be raised and when they found out $400,000 was raised, they didn't want to give to Johnny. It was probably more money they make in a year and they rationalized how they were deserving of some of it themselves. It's pure greed.

Kaylee Abbott They probably told the homeless man that they only raised 25k which they gave to him and decided to keep the rest.. They figured they could get away with it, since there was no way a homeless dude who doesn’t have access to internet or anything could find a way to figure out how much was actually raised. They figured this homeless dude is a nobody well use this money to go on vacation and nobody will find out. Now everybody knows and they’re being publicity shamed

Amber Phillips-Hall and? No one would’ve even donated anything if it wasn’t for Johnny. They set it up FOR HIM. And now I wonder if there was bad intentions in there. Probably didn’t think he’d be able to sue. But how do you spend that much money THAT quickly. I don’t even think a heroin addict could do that.

natalie storm doubt that highly! They had given him between cash and purchases almost $200,000, at minimum $100-150,000 bc they claimed to have over $150,000 left and said they only touched $500 themselves and they collected about $350,000 maybe a little more after fees.. Their calculations had to make sense according to what Johnny got to present it on national tv. No Johnny is a US veteran, he’s not a pushover or a fool. If they gave him MOST of the money, I’m sure he would’ve probably told them to keep some, maybe not a ton but I doubt it would be nothing except a thank you.

She only nodded her head and had a concerned and fearful look on her face. Then the woman had to ask again if this was what they we're standing by publicly and finally the woman said yes in a sheepish voice, and when she looked over at the camera I saw nothing but fear and concern in her facial expression. If you ever lived not knowing if you can pay your bills and buy food and then started making more money and no longer had to worry that you would probably notice less stress most of the time. Hopefully the court puts everything of value that they own(their house and cars included) in an auction with all the funds to go to him and also for his legal fees. With anything still owed to be taken out of their paychecks weekly. They should also have to pay a fine(maybe taking the fine money and donate it to a homeless shelter that helps veterans). They need to make an example out of these greedy people, in hopes of making anyone who even thinks about doing something aa awful as this think twice before even attempting to do this!

Confused about your phrasing here. Do you mean the homeless mans info? Because if so, that's most likely not possible since he's not in any social register and the signed up beneficiary in this case would be the couple, since they wrote in their info with the claim that they would "manage the money" (which I guess you could say they did... just for themselves). But if you mean that they could work with law enforcement to get the address of the couple, that might be possible (Depending on their privacy policy)

unless he is illegal here, then the government should have his info. -also he must go to some kind of shelter or meal program for food sometimes and often you can use the address of the shelter to get government benefits or at least the food allowance part since he is not renting anything.

Andy Saenz he still has a name and a social security number and bc he’s a veteran, he has all kind of info in the system about him. He probably goes to the VA, and once the fund was completed, they can release a small amount so the couple can help get an account set up at a bank or credit union. Don’t release the rest until he has an account or if they’re supposed to manage it, they should be required to do a joint account where they all must be there to take money out or set up limits.

If this was the case, they could have reached an agreement: Out of the $350,000 raised that you wouldn't have gotten without us putting up a GoFundMe page for you, let us keep $50,000 and you can have the other $300,000, or let's split it, or some sort of reasonable agreement where the vet gets the majority of the money. They SHOULD have given the entire $350,000 to the vet (!), since it was his, but if they felt entitled and wouldn't give ANY of the money back to the vet, they could have solved this amicably by making a deal with him...but they got greedy and they thought since he was a homeless vet, they could get away with it. Sad. Now they are in real trouble, all of which could have easily been avoided...

They both went on vacation, they both purchased new luxury items, they both plastered their new found wealth all over FB. *Plot twist: they are all in on it together 50/50 and the couple decided to screw him over on his half, so he got a lawyer. And in the interview, they said that they had about $150 000+ of money left of the $350 000 that was received from gofundme (after fees). Which interestingly equals to about half of 350k that was received from gofundme. Also why would he send the homeless guy a text saying that they will cut him a check for the rest of the amount if he drops his lawyers. If they can only write him a 150 000$ check, why would he drop his lawyer, if they will still owe him the rest of the 350 000$. See what i mean, he may be "homeless" but when was the last time you met a homeless drug addict with such nice white teeth? Makes you think... Also if he bought the gas, why spend the whole 20$, why not just 5$-10$. The car was clearly walking distance from the gas station where the girl can call for additional help and i dont think it would cost her 20$ of gas for her to get home. Also she said that her boyfriend went to see the homeless guy the next day, to give him 100$ for helping his girlfriend with gas. Who does that, when they clearly have no money to begin with.* *Ugh, this whole story stinks and it's not just the homeless guy, I'm talking about the 3 of them!* *Lets hope the whole truth comes out...*

Go Fund Me should manage the accounts for situations like these, where the money is intended for someone other than the person(s) that setup the GFM page. That's a flaw with GFM. Secondly, I doubt the outcome would have been any different, had the couple been honest. A homeless person usually suffers from some mental health, including drug addiction issues. So unless he had a plan to get treatment, he would have wasted it all and be back semi homeless.
