When same-sex couple David Mullins and Charlie Craig requested a wedding cake from Colorado baker Jack Phillips, he refused on the grounds that it would violate his religious beliefs, and now the case is before the Supreme Court. “We were mortified,” Craig tells Megyn Kelly, and Mullins admits, “I broke down, I have to be honest.”

I’m for the LGBT community to gain legal status. Constitutionally someone should be able to marry anyone of legality that they please. But destroying this man’s business for standing up for his own personal beliefs is hypocritical and disgusting. It’s persecution.

vreed lak72 The laws back then were made by the government which discriminated against black people. That is wrong because black people pay taxes and thus they've ALREADY bought the services. I am a lesbian & I gotta side with the cake shop on this. This is a free country & many people have different beliefs. If I want to be free to live my life the way I see fit & do the things I want, I have to respect others rights to do the same. If they have a religious belief, or simply don't agree with my lifestyle, it's their right to not work for me. This freedom thing applies to everyone. I can't demand my freedom & then try to force my will on others. It really is just that simple & the world would be a better place if more people realized that.

So even though he has a right to deny something he doesn’t want to write on a cake, he needs to understand that if he’s going to hold those kinds of beliefs- then expect some backlash. They are saying the baker turned them away completely; not true, the baker is refusing to be forced to decorate a cake that depicts images that are contrary to his personal faith. The Baker also said that he will not decorate a cake that depicts white supremacy, adult content ... etc. The homosexual couple is taking this from a position of asking for their rights to be respected to forcing someone to commit an act that is against one's own personal faith. What are the next acts that Christians will be forced to commit that are inconsistent with their own personal faith? I find being forced to commit acts against our will horrifying!

If you offer "customized wedding" cakes, then you sell them, Customized means: "to make or change something according to the buyer's or user's needs" so you cannot say: well, yes I make "customized" cakes, but I won't customize your cake because you are going to use it for a certain event that is against my religious beliefs. You are not announcing the cakes as "edible art" you are selling cakes that are used to be eaten, it is doesn't matter the nature of the event where the cake is going to be eaten, so you as a provider, cannot reject a "customized" order, because is what are you offering. So under this logic, you are discriminating. I think the judge decided rigth.

+Lindsey Summers: Oh, I haven't forgotten. Bessinger (from Piggie Park) ended up biting the bullet and obeying the law; he died only a couple of years ago. His children inherited his BBQ chain and it's still in operation; they're apparently a bit embarrassed about the history. Maddox elected to close his cafeteria. And then became Governor of Georgia. LOL Apparently, Nancy here doesn't understand the concept that "separate is not equal" in American history or under the law. She apparently thinks that if a person like Maurice Bessinger just tells a black person politely that his religious beliefs prevent him from letting them eat in his restaurant (in violation of the law) that there's no humiliation involved. I wonder what Nancy would think if there was a whole community of non-Christians and a Christian driving through town (with a Christian bumper sticker and wearing a cross) is politely denied service by the gas station and restaurant because she's a Christian - if the Christian will feel humiliated.

vreed lak72 Oh, honey, I know ALL about Maurice Bessinger and his shenanigans, because I have lived in South Carolina my whole life!! Funny thing is, half his family lives in the Lowcountry and operates several restaurants in and around Charleston...they wanted NOTHING to do with him because he was such an embarrassment to them. Ol' Maurice refused to fly the American flag outside his restaurants, instead flying the South Carolina state flag and the Confederate Naval Jack. After he died, his children permanently removed those, along with the controversial religious tracts advocating that the African slave trade was benevolent.

We Americans Have the Constitutional Right to Discriminate against anyone for any reason. Any law that says otherwise violates our rights. The ONLY entities in this nation that do NOT have a right to discriminate against individuals are government. All Anti-Discrimination laws that target private businesses and private individuals are wholly unconstitutional as they force association and remove choice from people over whom they wish to serve. Just because you have a business does not mean you have to serve everyone. This is why everyone is free to open competing businesses. If there is an underserved market, the new business would instantly have a lot of customers.

Meanwhile, the baker would sell them anything they make, just not a custom wedding cake. He didn't refuse to serve them! I'm an atheist, and there's so many things that I disagree with regarding religion on so many levels. But I side with the baker 100% in this case. If I was a nazi and wanted a swatstika cake, should I be allowed to sue for discrimination? And please, I'm not comparing homosexuality to nazi's.... I'm saying a private business owner should be given the right to sell their product in a way that they choose to represent themselves. Please someone convince me I'm wrong because I seriously just don't get it.
