Todd Rundgren performs I Saw the Light at the 29th Annual NAMM TEC Awards, held at The 2014 NAMM Show.

Todd wrote I saw the light while he waiting to go on stage . While he was getting ready for his performance he was listening to carole king's tapestry album, because he liked her and he decided to write a song in carole king's songwriting style as an homage to her. When I saw the light was released as a single, it sounded so much like something carole king would have written that the rock critics gave todd the title "the male Carole king "and "mr carole king". He says he has tried to live down that title eventhough he says he's still a carole king fan.. so how ironic it must be to todd that the year that he finally gets inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame as a performer is the same year counterpart, carole king also gets inducted. Maybe if we are fortunate , todd and carole will play I saw the light as a duet, or at least todd will finally get to play it for carole as a homage to her live in person after all these years as a tribute to her. Congrats todd and carole for your inductions into the rock and roll hall of fame.

Just shows how important it is to surround yourself with good musicians. Imagine you'd newly written this song and was giving it it's first run through with this lot!

Maybe Todd Rundgren is so bad, he can't get good musicians. hmmm.

Nah nah nah, you are totally missing the point. He has a bunch of dudes he fuckin' love playing with surrounding him, and although they might be a bit rough I guarantee they enjoyed getting up on stage and blasting out a song from yesteryear.

Yes, I remember this oldie....I saw Todd Rungren with my husband and brother in law in Louisville, Kentucky in the cold weather to get to the concert in December 1977, I believe that was the year. Somewhere I have an autographed poster, as Todd's limo stopped for a few of us. and I got an autograph after the concert, and I ask him why he didnt play some song that I consiered a hit. He looked at me like, oh yeah I didnt sing that.

Todd certainly can’t sing as high as he used to. I think it’s fine as pretty much all singers’ voices go down as a function of age. But he still can carry a tune. At 1:10 I thought about it and the singers do a good job of staying in key during the harmony. This part of the song would be really bad if they didn’t as it’s tricky probably. (I like the guitar solo at 2:08. I think it matches the studio version maybe. But he’s probably using a Chorus here I’m guessing as it sounds like two guitarists playing.)

Who in THEE fuck is running that board? The kick drum db is way overmodulating, not to mention that the drummer seems to have had too many drinks before the show. They look and sound old. Todd musta been pissed off. Horrible performance of a great song, I can't believe that a maestro like Todd was the least bit happy with that.
@ToneSherpa Жыл бұрын
This song is so hard to play.. especially if you have to sing and do the lead guitar part at the same time. My band played this, and for some reason I could never get the lyrics right. Even reading off the lyrics written on my arm I still fucked it up.
