Bought this one, got it all together and it works great. Just a reminder that you will need the flat top 3.7 V 18650 Lith Ion rechargeable battery. I took one that was not a flat top that I got from another radio I had and its just a bit too long for the battery case making it unable to close up the clear case properly. This build was my second attempt. First was a failure and this one success. Learned so much and had some fun at the same time!

This looks like a lot of fun to build. I would definitely use a small amount of amtex flux when soldering components just so you don't bridge anything, and some goo wick for any happy accidents. Would love to see more of these types of builds. Great job

I'm making this right now and can't figure out whether you solder the antenna on or you screw it on, other than that this is a great video! it helped me a lot as I built mine (mine also came with 15 prongs im so glad I didn't cut one off by mistake thanks to you!!)

I think soldering the antenna is what they had in mind.

Hi Todderbert, I like the buld videos, please do more of them. They remind me of the old Radio Shack kits where you put the wire in the springs to make the circuit. Thanks. Also what kit would you recommend for beginners.

Hey, it worked 😃finally, the problem was at the chip of course, I fixed it and it works now perfectly :D thank you

I know this was a year ago, but I'm having the same problem. Speaker doesn't work, 3.5 mm audio jack does. Did you replace the LM4863 chip? or did you just resolder the chip?

Im going to get this kit. I like the ability to run off batteries/liion. I have another clock on the way that uses one 14500 AA 3.7v lithium cell.

This is the kit to build. Use the speaker only, the headphones pull huge power for some reason, were talking .350ma vs .050ma on the Speaker. Don't know what is wired wrong in the circuit, but it is the same with their newer design as well. That one consumes almost three quarters of an amp when headphones are plugged in...crazy. So leave the headphone jack uninstalled.

@@todderbert yeah I saw in your other 18650 build you said that so I'll leave it out haha. .I have some 3400mah Panasonic I got in the mail a while ago when they were on sale. Should last forever haha Ive been watching almost all your kit videos

Great build todderbert your the best, wonder if they can pick up radio todderbert in the Empire State. Like the way it accommodates your 18650 battery.

@todderbert2 ай бұрын

Nice review! An Amazon reviewer says it doesn't retain presets after power loss?
@todderbert2 жыл бұрын
Just keep a good rechargeable 18650 in there, and plug it in once in awhile. If it loses presets, just rescan. The auto scan is one of the best I have used.

18650batterystore.com that is where I go. The best flat top for radios are the Sanyo GA series 3500mAh.

The screws are too wide for the antenna!!
@todderbert10 ай бұрын
Yes, I had to carefully drill mine. Though some say just soldering the Antenna mast to the Board will be good. You will have to use a Hot Iron to do that though.
@andersbolinder93922 жыл бұрын
what kit would be good to start with?

Yes, because everyone shows the soldering process. I don't have a decent setup to do that on video yet. So I have to resort to pictures, and explaining the process. I'm always here to answer questions. This one does have a surface mount amp you have to solder in.
