About 10 years ago I attended a talk by Zacharias on a university campus in my home town. The audience was impressed with his brilliant apologetics and philosophy. What a tragic disappointment he turned out to be. Eloquence need not be conflated with piety. There was a very well spoken man in my church who was invited by the pastor to give sermons. He preached brilliantly. Just one slight problem: he was incesting two of his children. He was exposed, banished from the church, and his wife divorced him, got full custody of their 5 kids, and took possession of their homestead and business. He wound up losing everyone and everything of value to him.

As a Christian myself, I tried to be gracious when the first allegations started to come out (this was BEFORE the evidence of everything came out). We all have things we struggle with and we can't expect teachers to be any different. But once the report was released showing that he wasn't just sleeping around but actually ABUSED and took advantage of these women, I was shocked. This mans material, no matter how much he contributed to Christianity, should be erased and I don't understand the people who are still defending him. I can understand the disappointment and confusion of those who came to Christianity bc of his teachings but this is just too much. The most disgusting part of this (from a Christian point of view) was the fact that he manipulated these women with their faith and actually PRAYED with them, thanking God for the opportunity to abuse them. Horrible, awful man. I can't wait for the Christian community to put Ravi Zacharias behind us and move forward with teachers who reflect the lifestyle we teach.

This kind of behavior is fairly common among Evangelical preachers like Bakker, Copeland, White and others who appear to be in the ministry for power over others, and, of course, the money and other gratifications. The Protestant Reformation came about to oppose the corruption of Christianity they saw being perpetrated by the Roman Church. However when looking at the corruption of the Evangelical ministry we can see that Protestantism has followed the same path of worldly corruption that they once condemned. One of the main abominations seen by Martin Luther was the sale of salvation [indulgences], and that is exactly what many Evangelical pastors are doing, offering salvation for money and a princely lifestyle.

My Christian belief had not shattered after hearing this. We are human, we sin, I pray for Ravi’s soul. Whatever could have happened before his death. Could he ever by any chance ask for forgiveness? God bless his soul.

As a Catholic I always admired Ravi Zacharias and encouraged friends to listen to him. I thought his arguments for theism and the Christian faith were very good. I once saw him speak in person. However, being Catholic and knowing what our church has gone through I knew this happens more times than not. I feel terrible and pray for the women who were just trying to make a living. They are victims of a man who at the least committed sexual misconduct and who was obviously a fraud, living a double life.

@@megalopolis2015 look at what he said that caused they to try to st**e him: "'I tell you the truth,' Jesus answered, 'before Abraham was born, I am!' At this, they picked up stones to sto*e him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds. (From the NIV Bible, John 8:58-59)" Jesus existing before Abraham doesn't prove that he is GOD Almighty. In the Old Testament, the Bible presents Jeremiah as being a prophet before he was conceived in his mother's womb; "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. (From the NIV Bible, Jeremiah 1:5)" Yet no one says that his pre-human existence qualifies him for deity. Also as to "I am" that Jesus used, no it wasn't the same "I am" that GOD Almighty used in the Old Testament. GOD used "HO ON", while Jesus used "EGO EIMI". If Jesus wanted to tell the Je*s that he was claiming to be God he should have at least remained consistent in the use of words or the whole point is lost. How many people in that age would have said "I am," in answer to questions in everyday life. Billions. Are they all gods? Of course not! The Jews thought in John 10:30-33 that Jesus claimed to be God. He responded to them by saying: "Jesus answered them, 'Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'? If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came--and the Scripture cannot be broken--what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'? (From the NIV Bible, John 10:34-36)" At first, they thought Jesus was claiming to be GOD. Then, he refuted them by saying that he only claimed to be the Son of God, as GOD Almighty had many Sons in the Bible before Jesus. Again, there is no proof what so ever that Jesus peace be upon him was GOD Almighty or the Creator of the Universe. Jesus refuted those who tried to praise him as GOD. - ""Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good-except God alone." (From the NIV Bible, Mark 10:18)" They sto**d and ki**ed many Prophets of GOD Almighty. they cause for several other Prophets to be sto*ed and ki**ed before Jesus. How about considering these Prophets GOD Almighty Himself? Let us look at what Jesus said about the Jews killing their Prophets: "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kil** the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. (From the NIV Bible, Matthew 23:37)" Here we clearly see that Jesus peace be upon him is giving up on them He preached the Truth to them for 3 years and saw not much fruits from them. He instead, saw nothing but arrogance and stubbornness. These Prophets were not GOD or part of GOD. Jesus is no different. He too was rejected by them, when he brought the Truth to them. "They surely disbelieve who say: Lo! Allah is the third of three; when there is no God save the One God. If they desist not from so saying a painful doom will fall on those of them who disbelieve. (The Noble Quran, 5:73)" "Say: He is God, the One and Only; God, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him. (The Noble Quran, 112:1-4)" "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. (From the NIV Bible, Deuteronomy 6:4)" "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. (From the NIV Bible, Mark 12:29)" ""Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good-except God alone." (From the NIV Bible, Mark 10:18)" "God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? (From the NIV Bible, Numbers 23:19)" Indeed, Jesus Christ, the man, is only a Messenger from Allah Almighty, and he also was never cru**fied

Thank you for your respectful treatment of this situation. Over the past years I’ve appreciated his logical approach in apologetics. He never was one who lifted on verse out of the Bible and built an entire faith system on it. You could follow his logic with truth. It may be a human characteristic to elevate teachers/leaders into positions where they think they are ‘more special’ than they are - maybe it has been that way ever since humans lived in community with each other. All I know is that now that I am 77 yrs old, I can clearly see that it happens over & over again - in many areas of life. But spiritual leaders stand out the most because people expect them to be perfect ..... and they are not perfect. This has been heartbreaking in so many ways. I admire the way this ministry has handle it so far . Many years ago I heard a very wise man warn people who are choosing a name for their new ministries: Never name a ministry after yourself!!!!! Again, thank you Dr.Grande for not being a ‘basher’. I sense so much truth in your analysis.

Christianity has a long philosophical, logical tradition as well. They aren’t all evangelical fundamentalists. So having faith is t necessarily a vulnerable trait to exploit. It can be. I'm a doctor (of medicine). Some medical schools have given out honorary medical degrees, but you cannot use them to practice medicine. An honorary degree is far different from spending years becoming educated to an approved standard, or in the case of a PhD (a real doctor) such as yourself, the requirement to also teach (the word doctor is from the Latin meaning "to teach.") perform research, then write and defend a dissertation. Passing himself off as a doctor was dishonest, and purposely so. Your balanced analysis was, as always, excellent. You mix in some subtle humor in just the right places. Also, you realized that his bad acts may not diminish his message. Any of us who are parents realize we often fall short of perfection, but that does not make good teaching to our children less valid. My wife and I happen to be Catholic, and no, the Pope can't determine who goes to heaven or hell (Never was taught that he could). Priests validly confer the sacraments even in the state of mortal sin. If the priest intends on conferring the sacraments properly or preaching faithfully he does so validly, but perhaps not licitly. The message is still good, even though the messenger sucks (and so many of them do). You are wise, and the force is with you! Best wishes.

I was a casual listener to Ravi’s recorded messages.I distinctly remember approximately 5 years ago, hearing something he said that seemed very odd, even suspicious for a “man of God.” He was speaking at an event and casually mentioned that he sometimes flies to Thailand alone, to rest and meditate. I thought that was strange that he would travel to Thailand ALONE! Thailand is generally a lovely country with even lovelier people, but it’s also a nation that has a high level of sex trafficking! So it immediately gave me pause. And further, why would he even mention that in public?!? After saying a quick prayer for Zacherias, I listened to the rest of the recording. Fast forward years later to 2020, after hearing about the accusations of sexual impropriety, I was initially shocked. Then I remembered hearing about the Thailand trips he’d make by himself, and, along with the 12 page attorneys report, I concluded that it was probably true. Besides the women that he abused, the biggest victims in all of this is his wife and family!! Terrible.
