I don't attach any weight to the fact that Masterson's wife filed for divorce days after his sentencing. That may just be a way of shifting assets out of the reach of victims who are now free to file claims for civil damages. His family are very tight-knit, with his wife, mother, and all siblings members of Scientology. If they all remain close, the divorce may not mean much of any substance.

This case really deminstrates that rape is about the power and control much more than the sex. When Masterson committed his crimes--the ones we know about, anyway--he was a young, wealthy, attractive, reasonably famous actor. In short, he was a man at the height of his attractiveness to women, and that attractiveness was considerably greater than most men could ever hope for. If the dude wasn't knee-deep in women then surely could have been if he'd wanted to be--getting more ass than a toliet seat, to borrow an evocative if indelicate phrase. And surely at least some of those women would have been game for whatever proclivities Masterson was into, inlcuding rape fantasies and/or having sex with an unconscious person. Masterson could have had any consensual experience he'd wanted, but there's the rub: he wanted to indulge his power fantasy by having the experience without the consent. And because he was a member in good standing of a creepy little cult, which, like all high control religions (or "religions," as the case may be) provide a structure seemingly tailor-made to protect predators, Masterson felt empowered to do as he pleased.

Crazier/weirder still is that Masterson's now ex-wife's father, John Phillips of the 1960's music group _The Mama's And The Papa's_ faced allegations of drugging and "S.A." against her older half sister and others. When her sister went public with the allegations, much of their family denied it, said she was making it up out of whole cloth and said "it's not consistent with his charachter." Although several people admitted the suster had told them about her allegations many years before while their father was still alive. _Including_ Masterson's wife=John Phillips's younger dauggter from a later marriage. She said she was told when she was 13 and tgat it had a profound effect on her teen years, effectively ended jer childhood and made her weary of her father. Then after he died and her older half sister went public, she stated she'd asked her family "all the hard questions" and eventually decided for herself that her sister is "lying." Although many of his friends, peers and his own bandmate suppirt her allegations and those of others. With that much smoke around someone, its hard to believe there's no fire. Again, it's just crazy. What a coincidence that this woman has a father accused of drugging and "S.A.'ing" victims - allegations which she said she could not reconcile with the memories she knew of her father and thus, claimed to disbelieve - only to end up marrying a celebrity who himself ends up being accused and ultimately _convicted_ of the same crimes which her father had been accused. It's all quite strange and heavy. Especially when you add in Masterson's association with the cult of Scientology and the Mama's and the Papa's close friendship and association with Sharon Tate, Roman Polanski, Jay Sebring, Voltek Frykowski, Abigail Folger, the rumors of hedonistic sex parties at the Cielo Drive home of Tate and Polanski, Tate-LaBianca murders and the Manson cult. Lots of heavy weirdness. Hollywood is a cesspool.

Because way back in the 2000's, Rosie O'Donald interviewed these two and asked them how the set handled their first kiss in that 70's show considering that he was 20 while she was 14 at the time. And they said that he was gonna try to not make it weird at first but then, Masterson told him "Dude, I'll give you 20 bucks if you deep tongue kiss her" and so, he did. They knew Masterson was a creep(and also an alcoholic). So why did they describe him as a nice, sober guy in the letters? Because they were both scientologists at one point in time(I think Kutcher still is one but Kunis left). Regardless, the cult still got dirt on them because scientology makes you reveal your most embarrassing secrets to them and they're obsessed with all of its active members having a clean reputation. So they forced these two to write these letters and make Masterson sound like a great, innocent guy who got framed, otherwise they will expose all the dirt they got on them.

There's a thing called brainwashing. Google it. The victims were born into a cult that had strict laws against reporting crimes committed by other members to police. Each victim reported the assaults at the time, and scientology has documents and documents, including testimony from DM, from their own investigation. These docs were used in the 2nd trial, where he was convicted. In his own words, DM admitted in writing everything the victims described were true, it just wasn't rape. The auditor who evaluated DM for this matter officially determined he has a criminal moral code. The church only protected him because he was a high profile, celebrity scientologist and the serial rapist thing would have looked bad for them. Also, one victim went to police and reported it just a year after the assault because of how scientology was handling it. Imagine being raped and having "therapy" sessions to explore your past lives and see what YOU did to deserve what happened, and being threatened with being declared a suppressive person (an enemy of the church, who can be fair gamed, and you get cut off from any loved ones in the religion and much more. It's a cult so your whole life is this thing. Everyone you associate with, work with, do business with is in the cult. Being declared SP literally means you lose everything and probably will get harassed and stalked.)

The scene in the movie "FaceOff" where John Travolta's characters daughter was in a car and got assaulted by a guy after a date was actually cast by Danny. (In the scene "john" saved her from "danny" and taught her to use a knife afterwards). That is definitely the best analysis I’ve seen on this topic. You clearly captured all of the complexities of this case. The fact that Danny was a swell guy to some people makes his offenses even worse. He had the ability to form very profound relationships. He not only had superficial charm, he conveyed genuine caring and concern for others. In some cases, he convinced them to avoid self destructive behaviors. However, his narcissism would not allow him to have any care or concern for his victims. I love that you’re objective about the case. You don’t care that he’s a rich famous actor (unlike some commentators who claim to be very anti crime but are defending him)

Sex offenders who get closely examined almost never match the implied and even explicit claims of the Pop psychologists. Stuff like "lack of empathy" is almost always refuted quickly and easily despite claims that seem non-falsifiable like that "narcissist psychopaths" come with the ability to realistically imitate empathy they don't have. The evidence also doesnt match the feminist ideology pop psychology explanation that sex offenders are motivated by oppressing women and far left indoctrination of youth is the only acceptable solution. In my personal experience (I had a former friend convicted of a violent crime after he got completely hooked on opoids), most people who initially say these things eventually come around to the trutth. It's just an initial defense mechanism to their own selves...they don't want to believe they could have loved a bad person, so they have misplaced protest against the whole idea of it. I think it's possible for a person to be a predator but maybe they don't do much because they are afraid of getting caught. Then they join a group that makes them feel protected, so now they start to act out on their predatory impulses. They think they have a safety net. If this goes on for any length of time, then they will be SURE they have a safety net and their behavior will get worse. Then one day it's so bad that they get caught and not even their group can save them.

I know peoples gut reaction when hearing things like 13 yrs after the incident happened charges were filed makes you think it's just someone out to hurt another celebrity etc but in the case of the cult of Scientology they are ruthless and relentless when harassing people they paint a target on, for whatever reason they deem an offense to them. Scientology has actually tried to frame reporters for m-rder to stop them revealing the truth. And if you listen to some of the interviews from those who escape, they absolutely revictimize r-pe victims through torture (sleep deprivation, starvation, manual labor, degredation) and brainwash that everything bad that happens to them is their own fault. There's been a bunch of unalivings (su-cide or otherwise) that the "church" (and local law enforcement) have swept under the rug as "accidents" because of the inhumane conditions the members are subjected to. It is strange that the accusers that have come forward are all reporting incidents between 2001-2003. Strange because if he has a history of this type of behavior, did it just stop after 2003. Was he on something. Was he just power hungry during that period then it subsided. That’s rhetorical. Doesn’t require an answer. Just food for thought. But the timeline that these reported incidents occurred when Danny Masterson was years into working on “That 70’s Show”. He was riding sky high on that fame. The peak of his fame actually. Since he was never as famous as he was while on that show. He took his power hungry fame and took advantage of people with it. While these victims were drawn to his famousness at the time only to realize he was a dangerous person. I’ve had horrid incidents done upon me in the past ages ago. It’s never occurred to me 15 years later to go, “You know what, I’m gonna report this. I want justice.” I honestly just don’t care. It was so long ago in the past. I’ve moved on and healed and grown since then. The glowing letters about Danny talking about how amazing he is can very well be true. He can be all of those kind and amazing things. He can also have this other side to him that did these horrible things during an earlier part of his life. People aren’t just one type of person. They are complicated. Granted we can all be kind and not be as horrible as he was in those rape instances. But we all certainly have less than desirable characteristics as well. No one is all wonderful. He may be a nice person now and has changed since then, but this is a perfect case where his horrible behavior in his past has come back to not only haunt him but take him down.

I've always been confused about why perps attack those they see as inferior. Like, why not attack a superior, so you could prove your power. But, no, they hit the easy target.
