As someone who's been to a few burlesque shows, I think what kills this movie for me is how safe it plays. I've seen tits getting exposed (and no not in a hiding behind a fan way, like out and proud for the crowd to see) in actual shows, meanwhile Burlesque the movie feels tamer than whatever Madonna was doing in her prime. I highly doubt you could ever do burlesque performance justice with a pg-13 rating. Hell, maybe an R rating might still be a little restrained. Fucking go all out, make Showgirls 2 electric boogaloo.

It's so weird for me because she's obviously a very good singer, but she's so damn forceful and melodramatic ALL THE TIME. I like her a lot, but I have the same problem with her singing that Todd has with Bruno Mars. She's technically gifted, but she needs to dial it down several notches and really learn how to restrain herself so that when she *does* belt, it's meaningful and appropriate. Also: stop with the damn runs. Just hold a single note longer than a second at a time, please. That goes for you too, Mariah. And Beyonce.
@RyanStorey12318 жыл бұрын
+Amanda S I feel like the only time Aguilera's music ever suited her forceful vocals was the "Back to Basics" album. I do like quite a few of her songs and I do like her voice in small doses, but her voice really is like a punch in the face when she over-sings. She does somewhat restrain herself in ballads. "Beautiful" is still a wonderful song, she shows genuine softness and restraint in songs like "You Lost Me", "Hurt", and "I'm OK".
@NawiTheCore7 жыл бұрын
+eating raw faces is my least favorite thing to do. That would be true if she could sing her higher belts live to begin with. In studio she doesn't force them that much, she actually uses a chest-dominant mix but for the most part it sounds OK (well, no so much in Lotus sadly). It is live when she goes all out trying to push too much chest and her belts sound really strained. She also sings high belts with a high larynx AT THE SAME TIME she's trying to push her larynx down to achieve a fuller, darker sound. So the amount of tension in her throat is tremendous. That's the reason why her voice is so damaged now, because she never learned how to belt properly outside the recording studio. Her studio belts in songs like The Voice Within, Mercy On Me, Soar, Fighter, Beautiful are EPIC, but she has never been able to sing them live. It's kinda crazy that she has never ever sang Beautiful the way she sang it in the studio (belted the G#5 in "E-verywhere" and the F#5 in "shIne").

Love this movie, and I wasn’t even a Cher or Christina fan before seeing it. I get that it’s not for everyone, but I am very surprised it didn’t get more recommendation for it’s amazing cinematography (even if Bound to You did rip off Maybe This Time).

I'm no Christina Aguilera or Cher fan, but I thought this film was okay. It's not great, but neither is it terrible. It's just a bit of kitsch fun. After all, not every work of art has to be a masterpiece.

Do you think it succeeded in gaining any praise from the gay community?

@@matthewdaub not particularly it's just because it's very campy and a vanity project for 2 great singers

I actually like Christina and was thinking of watching it. But when I saw your review I said: fuck it! I can always listen to the music on youtube

ThatNerdyGirl I liked the movie. And I watched it for the singing and the performances and not the plot (they are usually crappy in that kind of movies). But the dancing was fun and I don't mind Christina's voice

they played this on one of my busses to an away game in marching band; I wanted to die.
