outstanding. bought one over the counter this afternoon. after one video i made a beat after two videos i saved a decent edited beat, and half way through this (the third video) i can do all this!! what an outstanding toy. and ive been playing with drum machines since the 90's. this wee volca is a classic.

Yes I love the Volca Beats, I did over 30 jams with it as my solo drum machine. I can't wait till I can mix the PO-12 / Volca Beats in one song, I still need more inputs to do that , lol. Glad you like the little machine. The Beats feels like people either love it or hate it , no real middle road. I love it. =)
@toddsmithmusic31728 жыл бұрын
The PO -12 is smaller and cheaper and has some nice options the Beats doesn't, you might want to look at that one too. I'll be doing a tutorial on how I work with the PO-12 very soon too !!

You can delete motion recording with the "clear part" function (press FUNC and the 15th gold key), though it will also obvs clear the whole part.

Had mine for a week now to go with an Arturia Microfreak. Both have interesting ways of adding in some randomness (Stutter here and Dice/Spice on the Arturia. Both are really easy to use, cheap with high gang for buck.

Great video. So Motion Record can only be used for recording parameter changes? Can you not just record a parameter state? For example, let's say I find a sweet agog speed setting or a snare stutter setting. Can you not simply record that? Can you only record knob twists not knob states?
@toddsmithmusic31728 жыл бұрын
Never really tried that. I'm not sure if you'd need a small movement to trigger it or not. I can test that later when I get home, after work.
@spaaarky213 жыл бұрын
I recently got a Volca Beats and am looking for a way to change the part level (maybe this would be considered velocity) for only certain snare beats, not the whole snare part. It seems like recording can only capture triggers and changes to stutter, PCM speed and maybe analogue part parameters. Is there any way to record movements in "part level"? I basically just hard and soft beats.

You can disable the automation on the active part by disabling the corresponding step key, for example FUNC + step 12 to disable SPEED. That returns manual control to the PCM SPEED knob and will not replay your automation. The automation is still recorded into memory so, if you enable MOTION REC SPEED again, you will recover it. But then, if you do want automation on that parameter and don't like your original take, you just record it again. For Stutter, it's not as straight forward, because it's two knobs that are enabled by one MOTION REC STUTTER step key.

Does anyone know if you can save the track normally after you record stutter and speed?

Hello, and many thanks for your video. I'm facing a problem: in some memories pcm motion recording works and in some others it doesn't. I always enable motion rec. I reset to factory defaults but still nothing. The light of Rec button keeps on but it doesn't record my PCM adjustments. Has it happened to you? Is there some function or something I have enabled causing something like that? thank you in advance
@franky475 жыл бұрын
Yes, it happened to me right after updating the firmware to 1.03, did you do that as well ? It seems to work only on memories where Motion Rec Speed was activated when saved, some factory banks have it, but it's a pain.. I was fortunate enough to have discovered that issue right after buying my unit (and upgrading the firmware), so I could exchange it.

@@vacionauta Thanks for the heads-up ! My Beats is still on 1.02 so I'm good, I'm just wondering what the "setting sync unit in global parameter" feature brought in 1.03 means, is that to set one or two Sync pulses per step, as is possible on more recent Volcas ?

Also, is there a way to are an 16 bar loop with changes edited in? I know you can make a recording of a rhythm you make, but how do you add to that rhythm without making the new part part of the rhythm?
