I love this because using the toe hold to control is really huge in catch as catch can.

Nice move Chewie! :-) But what would you suggest in this position if your opponent tries to threaten you with a Guillotine or Darce choke? I´m often attacked by these two moves when I want to go down forthe oldschool or plan b sweep in bottom half guard.

I'm a new white belt, I've been training for a month and a half and i just can't do anything when they mount me since I'm really skinny, I'm 110lbs (50kg) and i don't have a lot of strength, I've looked at some stuff online but I couldn't do any of them since my training partners are all at least 55 lbs (25kg) heavier than me, can you please help me?

Alessandro you're new to the grappling game. A month and a half isn't a very long time. Take this belt to learn and work on your defense from the bottom positions. You will be there alot based on your size and weight. But that's okay I'm a guard player as well because a lot of my training partners are heavyweights and strong wrestlers. Don't focus on strength though and drill techniques. After awhile of training things will start to click and you'll be able to turn the tables on your bigger training partners. Enjoy the journey. Osss! :D

Kevin Low thanks man 😊 that's really helpful, and if you say so I'll trust you since you're definitely more experienced than me

Alessandro Hey bro I weigh only 115 pounds, just focus on your trap and roll + shrimp escapes and youll get out in no time. I havent been subbed from mount more than a few times yet for the sake of my constant drilling defence. Also block their advance from high mount and dont make basic mistakes. At higher levels some people dont use mount to avoid the heelhook escape. This is a bit past where your at but it shows how the game had changed.

O man, I feel for you. Don't give up, people here's given you really good advice. Train defence, treat a roll when you weren't submitted as a win for you, lower your expectations, think if you don't have some advantage over your bigger opponents. They are probably also white belts and new to this game - if you know more options you can get them quickly into unfamiliar territory. So learn your escapes and re-guards really, really well. Start from side control, as this is probably where you're most of the time. Realize that they can't submit you just by crushing you with their weight - if they do, perhaps you should focus on finding a posture in this uncomfortable situation where their weight is not suffocating, just uncomfortable (or maybe they overcommit to one side and you can use that to unbalance them). Let them move first, because they have to do something if they want to submit you. Wait for the movement and have an answer and an answer for their answer. Another advantage you can have as a smaller person is that you need less space to escape. One last thing to remember is that often you won't be able to escape with one big movement, so combine techniques (like a bridge in side control can give you just a little bit of space to find better position for your hands). If you are systematic about all of this, you'll be Houdini in no time:) Good luck!

I've seen the rubber guard used a lot in MMA.. is it really effective? Also I'm a white belt and I've been training for about 2 months now, should I learn some leg locks? I occasionally get caught in some by the higher belts

As a white belt you may want to focus on escapes and surviving leg lock games. Don't focus too much on learning all the leg lock submission but more so how to control the position. As a blue belt you will begin to dive deeper into the leg lock game and apply submissions while maintaining defense and control in the positions. Most leg locks are applied in a one-in, one-out situation where both parties are vulnerable. Plus a lot of injuries come from ankle locks, toe holds and heel hooks. As a white belt you want to emphasise not getting injured and not zealously injuring your partners.

And rubber guard can be extremely effective for maintaining control on the bottom. The scenarios where it fails to be most effective is if a person applying it is not that flexible or has short stocky legs, and when applying to an opponent who is very broad and strong in the upper body.
