Meh. I wish the whole soundtrack sounded a bit more like Funkopotamous Freejam on side C. I think that one best captures the feel of the original game. Much better than the remakes of the classics do, sadly. Is the game for sure going to launch with this soundtrack?

I'm pretty disappointed in this. As a huge fan of the original game and its soundtrack, this is really dull. Compare for example Big Earl Bump to the song in the original game. Where is the other half of the song? Compositionally and instrumentation-wise, this version is terrible. It should have had horns, a lead guitar, and punchier drums. The whole soundtrack for Back in the Groove sounds like it was made by someone who didn't actually listen to any funk music, but instead tried to emulate funk based on what they read about it. "I guess overdriven guitar with tons of wah-wah is funky." Bah. Sad. This soundtrack is least-effort and it makes me afraid for the game. :(

I didn't know funk elitists existed before this comment. Can't we just be happy that someone still cares enough to create new versions of T&E music at all? The fact that it still lives on like this is pretty amazing considering the original OST is from a video game from 1991.
@azazelleblack
@azazelleblack 5 жыл бұрын
@@danielburns96 What are you even talking about? People are creating dozens of covers of classic video game music every day. This soundtrack didn't happen by random chance; it's the OST for an upcoming game in the series. Your comment is bad and you should feel bad.

I am not a funk specialist, but being more into other styles of music and being quite picky at times, I can really understand that the critique you gave about the soundtrack. I have really enjoyed this soundtrack, but I fully admit that I have no idea if its actually faithful to real funk or not? That being said, your concerns might be very true and valid. I was wondering how you feel about the old Sega Tunes: Toejam & Earl soundtrack, that they made back in the day? It has some of the exact same songs, but the approach and sound was quite different.
@azazelleblack
@azazelleblack 5 жыл бұрын
@@rollingstart_90s I like the Sega Tunes disc quite a bit, although I have an issue with it too. Specifically, my complaint -- and I totally recognize and admit that this is entirely my personal preference -- about the Sega Tunes disc is that the songs there are heavily-interpreted from the originals. That is to say that they're pretty different, which is not my taste for game music arrangements. However! That is not to say by any means that they are bad; in fact, as funk music they are fantastic, excellent arrangements of the TJ&E2 music. You can really tell that the musicians who created that disc understood what was good about the TJ&E music and wanted to build on it. Even if I would personally have preferred that they simply played the music as written, I can't fault them for wanting to expand on the admittedly relatively simplistic songs. It doesn't hurt that their embellishments are amazing!
