@@jerbear97 I'd argue this drummer's style is more jazz influenced/soulful than your average math rock drummer, his feel is very distinct imo. Takashi plays _a_ _lot_ of notes, he's highly energetic, even frenzied. It's true even for his non-math rock projects- he loves to fill up the space he's given. What makes him a masterful drummer is that even though he's playing a lot, his work never sounds overcrowded because of his volume control and disciplined control of rhythm. There are some math rock drummers that sound similar, but to me, the conventional 'every other math rock drummer' sounds much more trimmed down, controlled, or even spartan compared to Toe.

Thank you, Toe. I've listened to you guys ever since college was tough, living alone was rough, relationships were breaking, friends were hurting. You enabled me to restart again. Thank you for your music. I wouldn't be here without you, guys. Stay phenomenal.

this is the only band i know where the live / not fully mastered versions of their songs just sound better than their recordings on the album. These songs gain so much from a live performance its surreal, one of my all time favorite bands!!!
Man, Ionno why but every time I hear Latest Number it always makes me cry. Their music has such a wonderfully human quality about it that transcends language barriers and hits you right in the feels. I will always be grateful they exist and that I got to see them once and had my mind completely blown.

Fun fact: it's called 'Where Are My Ears?" because the first (recorded?) version of it was played during the filming of Doku-En-Kai. The band is jamming while they wait for Yamazaki's in-ear monitors to be fixed. Pretty cool to think that they may have made it up on the spot, and now it's something they play to transition into The Latest Number.
@pblair65917 ай бұрын
not only that but also i think the mixing here is much more dynamic and crisper than the album version, like every instrument is perfectly balanced. even when the playing gets aggressive you can still make out the tiniest details
