Tofu 'Fish' 3 Ways (Vegan) | JessBeautician AD

Made this last night and it was delicious! This is the first time I've ever attempted to deep fry something, so we had a bit of a faff in not letting the tofu stick to the bottom of the pan which would in turn pull off the batter, so I had to hold it in the oil with some tongs and then try and flip it over which would only take the batter off the sides - I probably needed a smaller pan perhaps or more oil so that it was deeper, but considering this was my first attempt at deep frying I'm pretty chuffed! The flavour of the tofu was amazing, and the batter delicious! Far better than any tofish and and chips I've tasted in a restaurant which is always a bit bland! The tarte sauce was also amazing! No these wouldn't be freezable unfortunately, they're best eaten fresh for the crispy texture! You could marinate the tofu the day before and then fry it the next day though! Instead of the capers, you could really finely chop up some green olives - they're similar in their 'salty' taste to the capers :-) Thanks for watching! X

You should really coat the Tofu in flour first before putting it in to the batter mixture. Tofu is pretty much always wet and wet things (the batter) prefers to stick to dry things (the flour). Wet-to-wet and dry-to-dry is not very successful in cooking.

It’s a vegan Tartare sauce! I mixed vegan mayonnaise with gherkins (pickles), pickle juice, lemon zest and juice, capers, fresh dill, salt and black pepper - hope this helps! 💕
