While observing a stellar event, the crew of the Starship Deimos are celebrating Christmas and reflecting on their lives.

Bread and Circuses TOS. Uhura corrects Kirk about the Sun worshippers. "Captain, its not the Sun up in the sky. It's the SON of God." Kirk goes on to remark about them having historical similar even Christ. See, what some people fail to understand... Gene Roddenberry was about All exclusive ness, IDIC. Many people don't see the subtle clues in Gene's work.

I wasn't trying to say Trek is devoid of religion and spirituality (look no further than Klingon monasteries or Bajor) but religion depicted within Starfleet and Starfleet ships is not there anymore. The role of speaking to the audience about spiritual matters is overwhelmingly done by projection onto Alien races (some of whom may be in the Federation) or references to our Earthly history. As for celebrating the Christian festive Christmas... it never crops up and shows a maturing of Humanity. Happy Holidays btw

@@mauwalker I was thinking of Who Mourns for Adonais? wherein Kirk says they "find the one [God] sufficient." And in Bread and Circusses wherein Uhura breaks the news that the slaves weren't worshipping the Sun up in the sky, but rather the Son of God. Kirk adds that Christ and Caesar, they had them both. McCoy calls it a philosophy of brotherhood. In The Magicks of Megas-tu, the crew meets Lucifer. In The Final Frontier, they meet a being claiming to be the creator. In The Motion Picture, God is mentioned a few times. Regardless of all this, I'm a firm believer in IDIC. There's plenty of room in the universe for many religions or even no religion. But most importantly, if we are to survive as a species, there must be room for tolerance.
