About romantic tropes in children's cartoons. On the one hand, it would be cool if young viewers were shown that it's okay to have more than one partner in life. But on the other hand, we are talking about cartoons. Like, if the work does not have ten+ seasons with a bunch of episodes in each, where you can show the development of different romances and how couples break up and so on, then the flag is in their hands. But often, time is limited and they need to properly allocate time to different aspects of the plot (and if not, then you will get Miraculous and Star vs. the Forces of Evil). So it's not always, as far as I'm concerned, that you just get the opportunity to talk about this topic. And of the examples where this is shown, I can only remember the Time of Adventures with Finn and the Legend of Korra.

Yeah shows with longer runtime do play with dating but it's very rare plus Disney is just the main studio that does this nearly all there shows have kid characters end up together one way or another I think if just one creator always intended for there main character to date around and not end up with someone would be great

honestly I love how easily Eda forgave Lilith. I feel like her love for her sister is SO consistent through the series. Like the scene where she gives her her ring to bring to Belos or in flashbacks where she's shown trying to reach out and spend more time with her. I think a lot of things in her character show she loves so endlessly.. She loves Lilith when she joins the coven, she loves Luz to the point of giving herself to the emperors coven for her, she loves Raine even when Raine leaves her, She loves her dad so much she hurt so badly over inuring him that she isolated herself forever. She just loves so intensely I'm not surprised at how easily she forgave Lilith vs how long Lilith hated herself over it. Of course she forgives Lilith, she always would. It's just so sweet to me 😭

🦉 Bad Girl Coven baddie! I really like the arms and eye alluding to her curse and perhaps a particle acceptance of it, like she's still not come to terms with her struggles but with age and experience has grown to acknowledge its existence as a part of her while not defining her as a person. I had honestly thought Belos was going to use Eda as some wild magic propaganda, insisting that magic and rebellion left untamed and unchecked creates chaos, that the Titan himself punishes the wicked, and that only through order and control can balance be assured. Tbh, when it comes to Eda's eye being grey. I like to think it might be because of the old trope that when a magic user has exhausted their powers beyond their limits or use powerful magic that their life source gets used in the process and results in their hair prematurely aging. (Think Lina Inverse from Slayers or Claudia from Dragon Prince.) But since Eda already had graying hair. They just made her eye grey to symbolize the loss of her magic. The same goes for Lilith since it was stated that she was weakened when she performed the spell to heal Eda. Which I guess is because the spell probably took a lot more magic than usual.

🦉On the topic of dating, yeah, never a fan of character ended up with the first crush love. I always see two characters not working out (usually long distance or toxic) broke up and out of nowhere date again even though it was better that they weren't. I especially didn't like that characters that are usually alone, ended up with someone who never appeared before (never again) and has zero personality.😐 It'll be cool if we see different types of romance and not all the same in cartoons.

Honestly I enjoyed Eda the most out of everyone in TOH. Her arc was complete. Her story was the best. Her struggles dealing with her harpy made me enjoy her as a disability. But for me I do agree the weakest part of her was easily her relationship with Raine. Raine was fine. He wasn't as annoying or toxic and is enjoyable. However he was just Eda's love interest. At least I understood why Luz and Amity love each other but Raine was just a childhood love interest. And I can understand the gripe on how romance is protrayed. Sometimes we could understand more on different types of bonds. Because yes I can understand romance representation theae days feels limited. Really limited. Am I the only one that wished Raine was not used as a love interest. And more of him and Eda dealing with the fact that they cannot love each other due to circumstances. With Eda on the run and him forced to be part of the Emperor's Coven. With him forced to hunt her down..that would have been a bigger drama than whatever happened to Raine.

Me wishing miraculous ladybug actually did that for the dating. Seriously I hated Mari and Adrien are together especially when they could have shown the date other people, but they had the other couples get together at the end of the season then break up in the next season (only like 2 episodes difference). Star vs. almost did it, but to have the whole last seasons to break ups to make the main characters get together to “remake” the world, made me hate the last seasons. That trope has ruined some really good stories/series. Anyways, it’s funny that I haven’t watched the Owl House yet (I don’t own or watch Disney+ so got to find it *cough cough*). But I always enjoy your reworks/redesigns of them. It makes me really interested in the show (I don’t mind spoilers that much). Thank you another incredible video!

As I guessed I really loved this design the ending recoloring was a good call since during the speedpaint she looked to "royal" with the golden feathers and I do think her face still resembles Wendie Malick so 100/10 on that. Aside from it I don't know you already finished Hunter but I do hope you can make him look different from your vertion of Amity since for me because of the new nose and eyebags her face is way to similar to Hunters, so looking forward on what new changes you'll give to him

A bit late i know but i wanted to say this, the topic about how in a lot of media the characters tend to end up with their first partner or childhood love reminded me about one of the many controversies steven universe had, what was it about?, it happened because it was shown that Rose Quartz had several human partners before Greg, i even remember some acused her of being unfaithful and other... things, even though she never had two romantic partners at the same time and the fact that she loved Greg.

Amazing video and redesign as always! I hope you talk about Luz at some point because honestly... I really don't like her. I feel like the show never calls out how she acted in school and never addresses why Camilla felt like she had to send Luz to camp in the first place (Side note the whole 'oh the principle made Camilla want to sent Luz away' felt like a ass pull because the writers didn't want people to see Camilla as a bad mom.) To me it felt like Luz acted out in school so much partly because she liked making her classmates uncomfortable (kinda self sabotaging in a way, like she's doing it to convince herself that people don't like her or understand her while not realizing that her actions are pushing any friends she could have away) and I don't like how the show made it seem like the whole school was the problem, obviously the school system wasn't right for Luz and some of the kids were probably jerks but if someone brought rockets and snakes into school and then let the snakes loose I wouldn't want to be friends with them either and we know that Camilla talked to Luz about her behavior yet Luz didn't tone it down at all, how many times is Camilla supposed to say "Luz please don't make your classmates uncomfortable by bringing animals into school." Before she should step in and do something? How much stuff do people want her to let Luz get away with before she becomes a bad parent? I honestly see the camp as bringing Camilla's breaking point with Luz yet the show never addresses why she felt like just talking to Luz wasn't working anymore. It just feels like the show doesn't hold Luz accountable some times which is a running problem I feel. Luz, Amity and the Collector are hands down the worst of this I seriously hate what they did with the Collector in the final season. Once again another banger design! I like how you incorporated more of the cursed form for her season two design, gives a nice hint that she's going to slowly start accepting the owl beast. Also Yes! I'm not the only one who was bothered that Lilith got forgiven a bit too fast! That honestly bugged me how they just sorta breezed past the whole "she cursed Eda" thing. I get it they might've been told that after season two they weren't getting renewed so they had to rush things, but still I would've expected Eda to have still been a little angry at Lilith for cursing her.

not that this has anything to do with this video but one of my few misgivings with the show is that i think at the end of season one they say the emperors coven has only really being around for about 50 years or at least taken control in the last 50 years. i mean thats not that long thats like eda and lilith parents generation it presumably took over and supplanted what ever goverment existed in the boiling isles when eda and lilith's parents were middle aged. when espeaily in later seasons it seems that the the emperors fallowing was a round a lot longer than that and why did belos wait so long to really start pushing the 'coven' system.

Great job with Eda, though I wish you went into how the Owl Beast curse would go in your story. It was kind of weird that Lilith just finds a scroll with a curse. How did she even know it was a curse, and if she did, why didn't she know the curse was indefinite? But if you are going to do Hunter, that means you'll have to involve Belos. I was not fond of his story. If you are going to do the AU route, please change one thing... no time travel BS!!! It diminishes his menace, it also makes him really stupid, you find the most powerful being in the Boiling Isles and you waste it on an aggravatingly slow plan. IT also makes him less of a character and more of a plot device, a being created just to be hated, provide a sad backstory to other characters, or justify terrible behavior. Sorry if my complaints annoy you, it's just the show had the... ingredients and tools to make something great, spectacular, but instead it comes off as lukewarm at best.

4:07 Ok first of all; please don’t do that. Seacondly: i have a few OC’s i’m writing about, maybe planning to make them into a offical comic. Anyway; One of the OC’s is seen through the comic to date someone for a period of time but after a while they broke up, on good terms. I’m still not sure if he’s gonna end up alone in the end of the series or if he’s gonna slowly end up with one of his crew members. I'd argue that Eda and Raine are a bit worse than average when it comes to the "You'll always end up with your childhood sweetheart/the first person you fell in love with" trope. Sure we know that Eda has dated other people, but we don't know anything about those relationships. The most we get is that her and Stan are semi-canonical exes, and while we know that Stan is so down bad for her that he isn't even concerned about her robbing him, still thinks about her and wants her back (he's so real for that) all we know from Eda's side of story is that she robbed. And it's not just me being salty that my crackship doesn't have any legitimate content. It's referenced that Eda had multiple lovers after Raine, but none of them mattered. Never is Eda talking about another lover specifically, they're just sorta lumped together as batshit bastards (I would've loved to see an episode where we meet one of Eda's exes, what do you mean you need to hide in a house protected by a worm-owl demon not from one, but multiple people). Also whenever we are shown flashbacks of Eda's regrets it's only Raine in them, implying that they're the only past lover she had a meaningful connection to. If anything it gives off the vibe that her dating other people was just her craving the connection she had with Raine which she simply couldn't get again. So she settles with whatever she can get and it comes off as borderline self destructive if Warden Wrath could be considered "one of her better ones". Do I think this is done with the intention of reinforcing the idea that the first person you love is going to be the one you will always love the most and has to be the one you end up with or you'll be miserable for the rest of your life? No, it makes perfect sense for Eda's character. Sure it comes off as self destructive, but hey it's not as if that's a foreign concept to Eda. It's not that her other relationships never work out because Raine was her first love, it's that her other relationships never work out because Eda is a bunch of traumas held together by hopes and dreams and appleblood ( I would go into her traumas but we're not even halfway throw and I've already yapped enough). Heck, her relationship with Raine didn't work out because of these traumas. For the record I love Eda and Raine as they are, but as someone whose perceptions of romance were warped by this very trope I can't help but be a bit sensitive to it. Although, I do wonder how the story would have gone if Raine and Eda were complete strangers by the time they started the BATT raids or if they didn't know each other pre-curse leading to a much more jaded and closed off Eda, ultimately I can appreciate their relationship as is and the poeticism of Eda ending up with a person whom she had lost due to her curse after accepting herself wholly her curse and traumas included. I wish the story had flown a little differently, because as is it ends up reinforcing these ideas. But at the same time I feel bad about it since it does make sense and I don't know how exactly I would fix it. My solution would be to make her other romantic relationship somehow present in the story but that's pretty vague, not to mention time consuming and time was the one thing they did not have (thanks Disney).

Hot take but Eda’s Harpy form is disappointing. It just feels like they took a super interesting part of her character and turned it into a generic fantasy power up. Like I’m glad she recovered I just think it could have been done better. Anyway great redesign :)

(This is IF you do Luz’s redesign, but love the redesign of Eda!) One thing that I don’t really like about Luz’s character is how they made it to where Luz’s magic comes from. I do like the titan route don’t get me wrong, but I just wish they went for the Luz has heritage with witches. It would have exampled it better and how Luz is able to use glyphs because Luz is a human. A human with no heritage with magic. But if she has witch blood in her veins, that would have made more sense on how she’s able to use glyphs. Since she clearly has a connection to the boiling aisle, and not earth. But all I’m saying is that I wish they made it to where Luz has witch blood in her veins. Since that would example how she is able to use glyphs, instead of magic circles. Plus we do know that the titan did allow her to use glyphs, but that requires magic [I heavily believe].

I can't agree that she's great disabled representation because her curse is actually dangerous. It's nore of a werewolf curse than a disability she hides out of embarrassment or pity; she's literally afraid of maiming her love interest.
