@@omieyouknowme that's just awesome! I set a goal of 35 fishing days for 2022...that would be a lot with a full time job, family, and I also like to ride my Harley on nice weekend days sometimes... Usually my fishing trips are 3-5 hours and I might run the motor 20 mins a trip...I spend most of my time running the trolling motor and throwing to the banks. You are fortunate to get a ton of water time!

@@Motorcyclewindtherapy have a great wife, she lets me fish one day a week the whole day. All she wants is me to bring a fish home now and then if it's worth keeping. Take the kids with you, it's more fun when u have others, I'm usually alone and it sucks.

Interesting with the sealed plug. In the exploded view of the carburator it seems that the European version has an o ring as a seal, while the American version has a plug. How did you solve the sealing? Or does it happen to be fine without?

It does fine without it. It's anti tamper plug thanks to our EPA

Tohatsu 8 and 9.8 four stoke models have the same bore and stroke difference is the cfm that the factory carburetor can flow and the size of the factory or stock propeller. Modifications to the exhaust could result in sucking a valve. Small displacement internal combustion engines need and require back pressure on the exhaust stroke. Just my 2 cents

I did not drill a 1" hole for exhaust, there are two a 1/8" holes already, a third hole is provisioned for, I drilled it out. The end result my idle in gear is 1000r rpm allowing a slower trolling speed and much quieter engine at idle. I'll keep updating videos I am over three hundred hours with my mods.

By altering the exhaust port, you will change the compression. Small engines require resistance in the exhaust to run correctly. Too little and it is bad for the rings. But then again, if I heard you right, and you got the motor for 200 bucks then, hey why not.

You are correct for two stroke motors, exhaust scavenging is very important. 4 stroke are a bit different, they don't need help with exhaust gas evacuation to then force the reeds to open and pull in the next charge. This motor was not 200$ I have bought other cheaper 2 stroke motors though that I used as kickers. For low rpm trolling I did have to open the exhaust but it affected their mid and upper rpm. Since they where used for trolling that did not bother me.

@@omieyouknowme My 12 foot inflatable ships out today and I am going to order the tohatsu 6hp for it. I was thinking about the 8hp but for me the extra weight of it keeps me to the 6. I have to setup and tear down for every trip and I'm not as spry as I used to be. What was the slowest sustainable trolling speed she would hold before your mods?

@@jedibill111 you should order a 6" pitch prop for that motor, and get a drift sock. I could do 1.5-2 for trolling but I have a bigger boat. My friend has same motor and 6" prop on his 9' and 14' inflatable, allows the engine to hit the upper rpm range for cruising and slows it down but still not slow enough.

How did you get it to charge your batery

I bought the alternator kit for motor. New flywheel is required along with a few other items. Listed in previous video
