Good lens review. I just got very lucky on Friday at a local Hamfest where someone had this lens on their table. They didn't really understand what they had but said it didn't work well for them on a full frame Nikon. Since I have both crop and full frame Nikon cameras, I asked how much and he only wanted $20 for it. I paid him thinking this must be broken or something but it works perfectly. Very happy with it.

I got this lens about a week ago for when i go to norway in a month and it had severe, and i mean, severe chromatic aberation and i was freaking out. I turned it off and now there is absolutely no abberation at angle angle any corner any aperture. Brilliant.

Any reason why you opted for this lens over the newer Tokina 11-20 f2.8? I plan on picking up one of these 2 lenses for my D500 as they both seem like great lenses. Thanks for the review!

Not really sure what the difference is other than an extra element inside the 11 to 20. Maybe it's a newer version of a very similar lens. I was being cheap and wanted to stay under $400. Also a friend of mine has the 11 to 16 and was very happy with it.

@BillEricPhotography3 жыл бұрын
Quality wise I think they will be fairly similar. I think the tokina might be a little better at 2.8. It really depends on the focal length you need the 18 to 35 is going to be a much better walk around lens.

@@BillEricPhotography The Nikkor 18-35mm I'm talking of is f/3.5-4.5, it's the cheapest one for FX. I would use it on D700 instead the Tokina on DX D5500.

Oh okay, I got a little confused. So the 18 of 35 will be used on the full frame camera. The results are going to be nothing special. Probably average at best. You might be better off spending the money on a decent prime lens like a 35 mm 1.8 or a 50 mm 1.8. or both.

The photo with the water and rocks, which had distant objects in the background that were slightly less sharp, was probably due to atmospheric haze, and not the fault of the lens, or the photographer. Those objects appeared to be a fairly long distance away, and the greater the distance, the greater the amount of atmospheric haze, which will definitely affect the sharpness of an image.

I have the Canon 10-18mm lens, which out of this and the tokina would you say is better? Is it worth me getting the tokina as well
@BillEricPhotography5 жыл бұрын
The Tokina lens is better. The canon is a variable aperture (f/4.5-5.6) while the Tokina is a nice 2.8. I wouldn’t recommend having both lenses though, the focal lengths are almost identical.

How does it campared to Nikon 10-20mm f4.5-5.6? Specially for landscape (mountain lakes) photography
@BillEricPhotography5 жыл бұрын
The focal range is similar, and shooting at f/8 you’re not going to see much difference. But the 11-16 is a 2.8 lens so can open up much wider than the Nikon and will be much better at apertures between 2.8 and 5.6 or so.

A very informative espisode. I have an M6 I use as a lighweight carry system and a useful wide angle lens is the native M 11-22mm which is slower at f4-5.6 but at some moment in the future, it would be interesting to hear your take on it.
@BillEricPhotography5 жыл бұрын
I actually think for landscape lenses the aperture isn't as important. Most of the time I shoot at around f9 or f11 for landscape shots, usually on a tripod, so as long as the lens is sharp that's probably a great little lens for the m Mount cameras.

@BillEricPhotography5 жыл бұрын
If the 6D is a full frame camera then I don't think it will work on it. there may be some sort of adapter but you would probably have to get an ef-mount lens for that camera this is an ef-s mount lens.
@WolfQuantum3 жыл бұрын
I know this is old, but for those who might come across it, I'll toss in this. It will mount to the 6D. EF and EF-S lenses are the same mount. That said, this lense is intended for crop sensor cameras. So if you put it on a full-frame camera like the 6D you will get heavy vignetting at all, but 16MM. At lower focal lengths you would really have to stop down or you will basically have an image that is round in a black circle. I have the 6D, 7D, and 20D. For the latter two, the lens is fine as they are APS-C sensors. For the 6D I can set it at around 15MM up to 16MM, and stop down to f8 or smaller and it will work. But it is not a good choice for full-frame sensor cameras.
