I don’t think the Tokina 11-16mm is a bad lens. Only the manual/ autofocus could been a button, instead of a whole ring you have to pull and push.

Wonderful and Inspirational. I have this lens and want to try shooting the Milky Way in Hawaii next May. Have you used the Tokina 11-16 mm lens for this? It will be my first attempt at shooting the Milky Way.
@JorisVanDeuneghem Жыл бұрын
That’s cool. Yes I’ve use this one to shoot the Milky Way and it’s fun to use it. Because it’s so wide you can go to 20 seconds shutter speed. With a wide angle lens you get a little bit star movement, or it’s a little less noticeable.

That’s cool to read that I can inspire you. No I don’t use a filter to get those sun rays, I bump up my F number. From F16 you start to see those sun rays and in this video I shot at F22 if I’m correct. Maybe I should make a video about it 😁

Wonder if there's any significant difference between the Tokina 11-16mm pro II (2012) and the Tokina 11-16mm atx-i CF (2019)
@JorisVanDeuneghem Жыл бұрын
What I see on the internet is that the pro 2 has the internal focus motor and the atx doesn’t have that and also the front element of the atx turns when you zoom or focus, that means when you use filters they wil turn also. In this comparison the pro 2 is the best one (for me) it depends what you need of course.
@striderwhiston9897 Жыл бұрын
@@JorisVanDeuneghem You appear to be looking at the old 2007 version. The 2019 CF version does have an inbuilt focusing motor which is apparently upgraded from the pro 2

Hi. I'm running the Tokina 11-16 2.8 on my D7500 as my setup, and I've noticed that the lens isn't able to focus quite properly through the viewfinder, but it focuses perfectly spot-on using live view. Did you face this issue as well?
@JorisVanDeuneghem9 ай бұрын
Nope, that’s a bit strange. The first thing that I think is a setting or so. This is what IA says: If your lens is focusing perfectly in live view but not through the viewfinder, it could be a calibration issue with your camera's autofocus system. You might want to try adjusting the autofocus microadjustment settings in your camera's menu to fine-tune the focus accuracy when using the viewfinder. Additionally, ensure that the viewfinder diopter adjustment is correctly set for your eyesight to ensure clear focus. If the issue persists, you may need to have your camera and lens checked by a professional technician.

I got the tokina 11-16mm and 11-20mm but are not impressed. Center sharpness is ok when you hit focus but the corners are far from ok wide open. Focus consistency is also really bad. AF finetune does not help because the focus is all over the place. And that goes for many wide angle apsc zooms by the way. Only wide angle that works flawless on my D500 is the Nikon 14-24mm f2.8. Whish I could tell more positive things about the tokina but I simply can not. Cheers.
@JorisVanDeuneghem10 ай бұрын
Yes you are right. When you shoot wide open at f2.8 it’s super soft in the corners, but for me photographing landscapes, I’m almost always taking photos at f8 or higher and then it’s not to bad in the corners. It’s still there but less. I never shot with the Nikon 14-24mm, if I get the chance I will do that.
@Audimann10 ай бұрын
@@JorisVanDeuneghem since the 14-24mm is a fullframe lens your corners are sharp already at f2.8. Only thing that it is not the widest so 21mm fullframe equivalent. And AF performance is also top notch. And if I want to use the lens to it's full I slam it on my D850😆
@JorisVanDeuneghem10 ай бұрын
@Audimann ok so if you put it on a apsc it’s not super wide, but indeed you don’t have soft corners 😁
@Audimann10 ай бұрын
@@JorisVanDeuneghemGenerally fullframe lenses work the best on Nikon apsc. There are only a handfull of apsc lenses that I consider worthy enough and that would be the Nikon 17-55mm f2.8, Sigma 18-35mm f1.8, Sigma 50-100mm f1.8, Nikon 35mm f1.8 dx and the Samyang 16mm f2.0 manual focus. The last one is a very underrated lens but optical quality is super. The rest of the apsc bunch I like to throw of a cliff😅😅
@JorisVanDeuneghem10 ай бұрын
@Audimann 😂 do you use the Samyang for landscape photography? I’ve also heard that manual focus lenses actually are good, but it always thought it would suck to focus manually for every photo. But now I focus a lot manually on my shoots 😁 I also have the sigma 18-35mm and also love it.
