TOKYO LAST STAND DEFENSE - JAPANESE DOWNFALL

Inspired by Operation Downfall, this is the American last phase on the Japanese mainland. This is Operation Coronet, Tokyo's last stand, where the Japanese defend the heart of their homeland, including the Imperial Palace. This is where are the most fanatic defenders, with some insane experimental prototype equipment at their disposal, including the famous Tiger tank, which they bought from Germans but never arrived at them. For fun lore, we still included it, just like you see the O-I super-heavy tank in action, an absolute beast of engineering.
What you're about to see is the firebombing of Tokyo, with intense street fights, comparable to events in Ukraine, Mariupol.
The previous episode was a lot of story-telling but in this Part 2 we get straight into the business, you've been waiting for. Keep in mind the Fall of Tokyo is a fictional event, that hypothetically could have happened if Japan never surrendered.

In reality, during the planning stages for Operation Downfall, it was estimated that the invasion and the subsequent campaign to pacify Japanese resistance would not only prolong the war at least another year or two, but that Allied casualties would run up to or in excess of one million. The U.S began mass producing purple heart medals in preparation, making half a million by the time the invasion was cancelled after the two atomic bombs. Those medals have been used in every American military conflict since then and even today the Downfall stockpile has not been fully used up yet.

It would porobably have been like Vietnam in the sense that there would be lots of irregular fighters, ambushes, booby traps, etc. But it wouldn't last that long because Japan, unlike Vietnam, didn't have any foreign support by 1945

The casualty rate was predictably high for the GIs. Cannot understand the absence of waves of USAAF bombers which could easily ID then DEMOLISH all lines of trenches, MGs and artillery . What happened?? The Tiger replica was accurate: Germany freely donated plans for the heavy tank to Japan years earlier. Otherwise episode was well done!

Japan purchased a Tiger tank from Germany but due to logistics issues and the latter's dire need for tanks, Germany bought back the Tiger tank and was never shipped to Japan.

I would honestly love and think it'd be amazing if we got an Alternative History game that takes place in a WW2 setting with America invading Japan. Nations like Britain and France won't commit to troop support but will provide air and naval support. Meanwhile the game takes you from J-Day or something. The biggest Naval invasion in history. All USS Iowa Battleships are there, the plane is black with B-29's and CV Aircraft. The Ocean is littered with Troop transports. Maybe since it's an AU setting the Yamato battleships are still alive and some minor ships in port. Depending on how far you want to go. Have the Super Yamato Battleships with their even bigger cannons. But the sheer spectacle of such a large invasion. The rest of the game takes place as Japan is slowly turned from the peaceful and traditional look of Japan, to all out warfare. I think the thing that could be even better, is if it had a two campaigns. One as the U.S, while the other as Japan. Something even cooler could be if your decisions mattered. So as the U.S. You could achieve total victory through hard military campaigns. Eventually America creates more Nuclear Bombs and even uses Japan as a testing ground for their new Nukes. You eventually get a land with little to no crop growth, water is scarce, and bandits and factions start forming, kind of like the old Japanese Warlords. Every faction despises the U.S, even more so if you ended up killing the Emperor. Leading to fanatical civilians and infighting. U.S overtime would withdraw forces, but keep small amount of Soldiers in certain areas. The other scenario is that Japan is not going down, and there is a constant tug-of-war between gaining ground and loosing it. But a conditional surrender will happen, where Japan loses all of it's colonies. Even Okinawa, even if they themselves don't want to. But Mainland Japan will stay intact, but Japan's military will be rearmed to fight Russia, tying in with Britain's Operation Unthinkable. Where Germany was to be rearmed to fight against Russia. I know the ideas might not be great, but I just love the idea of being able to get an AU game like that. Whether it be something like a strategy game or FPS I don't know.

Idea: You should have the inside of the Imperial palace, leading to a secret tunnel that would allow the emperor (A Officer Maybe) to escape. Maybe even a tank or truck waiting to pick him up, It could even lead to a part 2 where the car would stop at a B I G base and lead to a big battle and the emperor getting killed or captured.

One of my great grandfathers on my moms side had enlisted in the USAAF and was going to the pacific. Fortunately, the bombs dropped and he went home before any combat would’ve occurred. If this happened, my great grandfather would’ve been in one of those bombers at the start and I could’ve never existed if he was shot down.

Only two things missing from this series: 1) A Montana sailing into Tokyo Bay and taking on the Nagato as the Combined Fleet's last stand. 2) Room-to-room fighting in the Palace itself and the capture of Hirohito.

I doubt Hirohito would have stayed in Palace. The city of Tokyo was heavily bombed including the Palace was a target too, so he would have likely left to the Matsushiro Underground Imperial Headquarters

I really enjoyed watching the end of this series! Thank you for all the effort you put into it. :) I do wonder what would of happened to emperor Hirohito in this situation. I'm actually surprised there wasn't a major tank battle on the Kanto plains. Also equally surprised by the Japanese tiger tanks, I suppose in this instance the Japanese army kept the ones they originally purchased them from Germany and remade a limited amount. I do hope you'll do more ww2 based videos, alternative history or otherwise.

He'd be killed for sure. Americans HATED the Japanese and viewed them as less than human even without the invasion. In this timeline, the US troops who find Hirohito are going to be incredibly vengeful and bloodthirsty after seeing so many of their friends die. Hirohito wouldn't even be recognizable anymore after his initial contact with American troops.

Timeframe 0:05 Cursed Flight Pathing Confirmed on Boeing B-29 Superfortress Bombers Timeframe 5:16-5:26 American M24 Chaffee and Japanese Type 97 Kai-Shinoto Chi-Ha play a Deadly game of "Slap Fight". The Chaffee, though being a Modern Light Tank, wins. Timeframe 14:22 It's that Monster again! Also, There were some "Japanese Ferdinand's" in the mix as well as a Rather Extremely Prolific use of the Infamous Nikkuhaku Kogeki or "Human Bullet" which hasn't been seen since Guadalcanal. I think I might also check and see if Germany actually sent some Tiger Tanks over to Japan during the War.

But they never ever got it. He allegedly disappeared after being reassigned by the wehrmacht somewhere in France. Thank you for the vid

I think the story was that Germany donated the technical plans for a Tiger tank along with a disassembled ME-262 and a ME-163 that were placed on a U-Boat and later transfered to a Japanese submarine. A Japanese officer who was a military liason to the Germans used the trip to return home. The sub pulled into a part of the Philippines that was still under Japanese control,for refueling for the final leg of the trip back to Japan, and the officer was let off to join the fighting there. The sub continued to Japan and was sunk somewhere off the Philippines.

@@TheLAGopher they were several Yanagi Missions between Germany and Japan exchanging weapons, technology, natural resources, and even Military and technician personnel aboard each other’s Subs. In 1942 I believe at least two IJN subs sailed from Japan all the way to Lorient France where the Japanese sailors were extremely well received by not only Admiral Donitz but even Hitler himself. The subs were refitted and overhauled with better tech and engines. At least one sub made it back to Japan but several were sunk by Allied Ships. Also, Japan did in fact purchase a Tiger Tank in 1944 but was “reacquired” by the Wehrmacht.

@@eijiroinouye4115 there were couple of reason why. The Japanese military mostly favour the navy on building more warships to fight against the US pacific fleet. Lack of suitable industry factory to build a standard tank. Lack of technology for the design and maintace problem. Decreasing material supplies and also the lack of knowledge on really designing it. The Japanese don't really favour on building heavy tanks because of the muddy environment in the region they fought and often favour mostly light tank.
