Great video! Two things I've noticed: 1) Everything is intimate and cozy(for better or worse). Can't compare this to the open spaces in Thailand bars... 2) When you speak Korean, your whole body language and the accompanying sounds you make are of a Korean manner... it's funny to watch :D I speak 3 languages and act totally different for each language! Keep it up!

On my last trip to Japan I only visited big cities (Tokyo, Kyoto, Matsumoto, Hiroshima, Fukuoka). I was a wonderful experience. But in Fukuoka I met a Japanese buisnessman who spoke very good English. He told me I should definitely visit the north of Japan and the countryside, because it's very beautiful and cheaper than the big cities. I hope to do so next year. ☺❤JP

Those tiny little bars seem so cool and interesting! It's one of the things I find most appealing about visiting Japan one day. I Especially loved the last one with the dark lighting and mood! The only place I've seen have anything similar to that in US is NY city. Even still it doesn't directly compare to how Japan looks.

Tbis looks so cool! I love thinking about how each tiny bar or restaurant has to stock their supplies and dishes and how they prep and scale all of it.

Nothing like it in the world, that is why I stay as close as possible w/out breaking the bank. If you find Charlie he will get you in those secret places. You did not show any beauties of Kabukicho. Streets are dead, must be early OR rained early. Absolutely love this bar area. Love popcorn. Absolutely loved every minute

I went to Golden Gai about 8 years ago, and wasn't so taken, as it had a real reputation of not being welcoming to tourists. With the bars being so small, they want people who'll come in and stay for a large part of the evening, not people who'll come in for a single beer. Foeigners just being told flat out "No!" when they tried to go into many bars was common, and happened to me in one place. Maybe things have changed. There's a similar place in Kanazawa, with about 60 bars on two small alleys, but that was very welcoming, perhaps because they get far fewer foreign tourists over that side of the country.

Suntory Whiskey OUCH.. instantly brought back difficult memories... I'm looking forward to you getting in the Hostess Bars where you have your own hostess whos job it is to help you sing and get you drunk as possible... many of these establishments with back rooms where you can sleep it off or "Whatever".. your getting there... imagine being in these tight quarters during an earthquake.. Have you been to Akihabara Area yet, Computers, cameras, video games, usually a year ahead of their release in the rest of the world ... look for a Sony Personal Air-conditioner they really work... might be something for those very very hot days in Bangkok. @RevStickleback

You'll be absolutely fine. I've been to Japan three times, (without being able to speak the language) and as long as you don't stray too far off the beaten track, you'll be able to find someone who speaks English, or see some English signage. It might limit your choices, as going into a restaurant where you can't read the menu won't work out too well, but there will be plenty of options. One thing I did do was learn the Katakana 'alphabet', as a large number of the words written in that are just transliterations from English, but I certainly wouldn't say it's essential.
