21:18 is good shot how the side walk and the walk way to the left split but also being back light on the sidewalk. Japan has so many good angles. Even 21:19, the little alley way, but looks like light won't shine down there unless it's noonish.

Here a little AI generated story. I like the way you to go together and work on the same streetphotography video. You seem like a good friends. "Once upon a sunny day in Tokyo, two brothers, Lucas and Sam, who were both passionate photographers, decided to take their cameras to the streets for a fun day of street photography. Lucas, known for his channel "eyeExplorer," had a big mirrorless camera, while Sam, from "Samuel Street Live," had a smaller DSLR Nikon camera. They were excited to collaborate and capture the unique charm of the city together. As they began their adventure, Lucas introduced their plan to his viewers, showcasing the dynamic duo ready to take on the streets. Sam couldn't contain his excitement and playfully teased Lucas during the intro. With their banter and laughter, they set out to find interesting subjects and intriguing light. They stumbled upon a fascinating character, standing under a shadowy silhouette. Lucas and Sam instantly knew they had a great shot, and without any hesitation, they jumped right into capturing the moment. They discussed the different cameras they used, comparing their experiences with DSLRs, mirrorless, and film cameras. As they wandered the streets, they shared stories about their gear experiments and their journeys in photography. Sam had recently switched back to a DSLR, while Lucas was enjoying his mirrorless Nikon. They playfully debated the merits of different cameras, each standing by their own preferences. As they continued their stroll, they discovered a perfect spot with beautiful light and interesting cityscapes. They decided to stay in that location for a while, challenging each other to capture the best shots in their own unique styles. Sam had fun shooting into shops, while Lucas loved exploring reflections and shadows. Throughout the day, they encouraged each other to try new perspectives, making the most of the vibrant city and its people. They discussed their upcoming photography projects, including books and workshops. Their passion for photography and exploration shone through, creating a bond that grew stronger with each shared moment. Eventually, the sun began to set, and the brothers concluded their street photography adventure. They reflected on the day, cherishing the memories they had captured through their lenses. Lucas thanked his viewers for joining their journey, while Sam playfully hinted at future collaborations. As the day came to an end, they knew this was just the beginning of many more exciting adventures together. The bond between the two brothers, both photographers with unique styles and perspectives, only grew stronger as they explored the world through their lenses, capturing moments that would forever remain frozen in time."

The new lenses are great for getting rid of focus breathing. I sorta don't mind it for manual focus lenses b/c at night I use the breathing to focus. My 50mm currently back focuses and I can see the image bulge slightly to know I'm in focus.

Awesome stuff and great to see you both collaborating again! Been thoroughly enjoying your street videos and since then part of me wants to get into doing it myself. So to test the waters I already had an old Canon 500D that's been packed away for years now. Thinking of pairing that with a 50mm lens and see how things go. At the very least should be a good way to learn the basics. Also, what sling bag and bottle holder are you using? They are very nifty.

High energy, entertaining video. Banter works well between both of you. A few image gems in the mix - like cafe shot at about 23:50. Brand preference should not be a factor - comfort w/gear and outcomes matter more, IMO. Mirrorless cams can be just fine for manual focusing - peaking and (for Fuji gear) pentaprism, split image capability, along w/focal distance scale in display that simulates zone focusing effect on lenses w/manual markings. Several shooting tips (“fishing” shown by doing in vid) kind of overwhelmed by brand of gear talk. “Legends” can be favorable or not😁.
@EYExplore
@EYExplore Жыл бұрын
Totally agree! Everyone should just use the gear they love and no worry what anyone else is doing. Yeah, I realized after that we kinda talked about gear a lot, but the conversation just kinda went there and we went with the flow. I wish talked about photography more, but it just means we'll have to do another video! :)

A and M are my most used modes and I'll leave Auto-ISO on almost all the time. I only turn Auto-Iso off at night. I switch between A and M if I want a specific shutter speed otherwise -1 (daylight), -2 (shade), -3 (night), -4 (moon light), -5 exp comp (high speed night). With CMOS sensor's I only stop down -3. CCD I'll go as low as -4, -5.

I see you loving the Z 9, I know you were using the Ricoh GR 3 & 3X. I noticed you didn't use the optional viewfinder. my concern about the GR is not being able to compose and confirm focus in daylight, ie. sunlight. did you find this to be an issue in your use of the two GR cameras? are you able to see your subjects clearly ans in detail enough to verify focus prior to tripping the shutter. thanks again
@EYExplore
@EYExplore Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's the biggest challenge on the GR is in bright sunlight it's hard to see the screen sometimes, but it's basically workable for me. Actually, verifying focus is not so hard. Usually, when the little focusing square turns green, then focus is accurate. And I can always see that. What's hard to do it compose/frame the shot effectively.

Basically, none. I still use it a lot and love it. I guess maybe one small thing... when it rains and the front element gets wet, it's kinda hard to wipe the water off easily. @@EYExplore might have to do with the environment. Japan is pretty used to being photographed, you guys also look like tourist. But either way your camera really isn't that big. The Pentax 645, 645z, H6D, Mamiya 645 those are big cameras. I think its the long or big lenses that throw the public off. I was confused thinking you both shooting DSLR’s, wondering so who is hiding behind the Nikon Z9? It’s and EVF and the conversation was negative towards that. But now I get it, when you mentioned coming to the dark side you meant going over to photography with a brick around your neck, not using a mirror. My mistake.

No, I think we both meant coming over to Nikon since Sam spent a few years shooting with Fuji.

A big problem for street photography in Japan, I think, is the fact that just about everyone wears a face mask. I find that very regrettable... almost never a face on the picture...

Yeah, I agree!! It's one reason I've been shying away from shooting people directly for the last two years. The masks just look stupid, so it's pointless to photograph people like that. I go for silhouettes and other 'impressionist' ways of photographing people. Anyway, I hope people come to their senses soon and stop wearing the masks 24/7.

nice video. when you write at 10:11 1/3200 iso-64 -1.7eV under the bridge, does that mean -1.7ev is contained in the 1/3200 because camera first choosed 1/800 due to dark zones and you wanted to underexposed to have deep shadows ?

I thought japan has Portrait Rights, that you can't show people's faces without their consent?
@EYExplore

No portrait rights in Japan. There are no laws covering it. It could be an issue if used commercially, and potentially someone can try to sue if they can prove damages to reputation, etc.

Regarding the fact that you said in the chat that any type of camera can be used in street photography, yes, any type of camera can be used, even D850 and Fuji medium format 100 megapixels; But don't doubt that your photos are soft, especially for moving subjects; Due to high processing, the smallest vibration in high megapixels causes the end of the image to be soft; I don't care about the size of the camera for street photography; I have been photographing myself for 20 years and I have photographed with many cameras; I use Nikon D4S and Nikon D700 for street photography, cameras with 12 and 16 megapixels; But my Nikon D850 and Fuji GFX 50S cameras with 46 and 50 megapixels are not suitable for this type of photography due to the high megapixels and low pixel density and the lack of stabilization inside the DSLR body like the D850; The use of these cameras is clear, great for the studio. Industrial and advertising photography and macro photography, great for landscape, of course, on a tripod; Now, one day, I might feel like taking my 50 megapixel Fuji or Nikon and taking photos with it. I can take some good photos, but this does not mean that these cameras are suitable for this type of photography.

I don't really see why the resolution matters. You can just shoot in 45mp and then export in 16mp if you want. Or on the D850 you can set to smaller MP raws straight out of the camera. All you are saying is that these cameras are not suitable for street photograph FOR YOU. And that's totally fair. But the Z9 is extremely well suited for street photography FOR ME. And it's one reason I got it. I cannot speak for the D850 for Sam, but I'm sure he has his good reasons. The truth is that cameras are tools and we select the tools that work for us and we all know what's best for us. :)

I think the argument about camera shake with 45-50MP is a little exaggerated. Yes it is easy to recognize motion blur in photos but in my experience I would have to have really shaky hands or shoot very slow shutter speeds. Short little micro movements definitely cause motion blur more easily (when you are freezing for example) but in normal conditions I never encounter any soft images due to the high resolution. I even do night photography hand held at 1/60 shutterspeed and they almost always come out sharp. And for street photography I also wouldn't mind a little softness because it's not always about sharpnes. As Lukasz said, you can always downscale images if the softness bothers you. For me the 45MP are just a nice to have in case I want to print my photos large. Which I sometimes do.

@@EYExplore When you reduce the number of megapixels of a camera like D850 from 46 to 27; There is no change in pixel size; It only scans one pixel every few pixels; This only makes the process speed up; Regarding the Nikon Z9, due to the stabilizer inside the body, there is no vibration problem in the high megapixels of the dslr cameras

@@SamuelStreetlife There is no exaggeration, dear friend; I mentioned that by reducing the amount of megapixels from 46 to 27 or lower, the pixel size does not change; Rather, however many pixels are read as one; The amount of noise control and processing speed of a camera with a 16 sensor whose pixels are larger is not comparable to a 46 sensor that is set to 16; Therefore, why is it necessary to use the 46 camera on lower numbers? I myself have Nikon D850; It is definitely the best camera produced by Nikon in recent years; But I use Nikon d4s and Nikon d700 for street photography . for landscape photography; time lapse ; long exposure; And for macro and portrait under flash light, I use d850 and fuji gfx 50s; Cameras are produced with different uses; Definitely you if gfx 100s; Get the Pentax 645z and the Fuji gfx50s, and maybe do street photography with it. But this is not the reason that the use of these cameras is suitable for this type of photography.

@@SamuelStreetlife How many of the photos you took at 12.39 minutes on 1/80 are soft; 11.31 minutes on 1/400 are soft; 11.20 on 1/800 are not sharp at the end; 15.57 minutes on 1/640 were excellent and sharp; 16.46 minutes. 21 You also took some photos that were not displayed; You have a soft image on 1/800 in daylight; How do you get it sharp at 1/60 second at night?!
