Decided to try something a little different this time. The news summaries will remain, but they often mean skimming over points of interest. So, I've decided to do these 'discussion' news vids where it's all unscripted shenanigans but more in depth.

The Reverie is out! I played all 9 previous "trails". The trouble is, I need to refresh my memory of the overall story, plot twists and so on. I found LadyVirgilia's summaries, but CS3 and CS4 are missing. Cannot find anything similar... Is there something you can suggest? P.S. Thank you for opening this series for me. It actually helped to keep my thoughts together during the hardest periods of my life. Remember the story of Imperial invasion in Liberl? This stuff hits different if you are from Ukraine like me😬. How Different? Well... At the moment of playing "Sky" I was ready to fight for my country (I still am) against invader 28 times as big as we are. Fun times.

yea but Cloud leopard has said that they are working on a English patch for Kuro no kiseki and it will come at a later date it probably will be an English Support Language patch no date for it as of yet

I would love a sequel to Tokyo. I think it just needed a sequel to really iron out some of the game and improve on things and it would be amazing.

I couldn’t agree more with this. Tokyo Xanadu was a big time sleeper for me. I was shocked how much I enjoyed it. It deserves a sequel.

As much as I'd love to see Xenogears in some capacity again it's almost impossible for it to be as it should be as Square would have to get Takahashi back in the writing room as well as Soraya Saga who has pretty much dropped out of the industry. Still would definitely be interesting in what they could do with it.

I found Tokyo Xanadu by complete accident. I had just finished ys 8 and was wanting something to scratch that itch. Found Tokyo Xanadu and loved it, the blend of ys and persona was exactly what I never knew I needed and I'm hoping that we get a sequel

I'll buy Kuro twice when it comes out in Europe (i had bought it Jap to use a fantranslation on it). But Nayuta? I'll skip it to make it intentionally bomb so that NISA remembers they should have focused on Kuro

If they did anything with Xenogears, I would hope for a remake (any scale, not expecting FF7R budget). I would just want them to actually flesh out and finish the content in disc 2 instead of half of it having you sit there and simply being told what happened off-screen. Being able to directly participate in all parts of it would be a nice change.

Haven't played the game myself but that generally seems to be the biggest complaint about the game: second half is mostly cutscenes and the like. If they say made the game a 2DHD game (since that seems to be becoming the thing nowadays, especially with SE's smaller to mid size IPs/remakes) they have a chance to at least add in more gameplay portions to this part...granted the only issue there would be if they can't get Monolithsoft/at least a few advisors from Monolithsoft on board any new side quests added could potentially ruin the games lore if they're not careful/paying close attention to the game's lore (or worse yet wind up killing someone important in those later events in a side quest when they're supposed to be alive later in the story/at the end cause they didn't pay attention and rushed things)). Good thing about it would be if they fixed any glitches/plot holes and did so well...if they try to change the combat though it would probably cause a riot...especially if they make it action based (and while I prefer action based I feel they should just keep it as close to the original as possible...well unless most people hated the combat...though if that was so the game probably wouldn't be celebrated as much as it is. And outside of FFXVI SE doesn't really have any action rpgs that have actually good action combat systems if I'm gonna be honest, especially none that are 1st party (sides XVI) so I'd rather they just stick with the old system (well as long as they don't make it ATB or MMO like...I hate both of those systems...at that point give me action if they're gonna change it to that as I'd rather do pure action where I control every aspect of the character or pure turn based where I can spend whatever amount of time I want planning my next move without the enemy's turn interrupting me/possibly forcing my hand to a different decision than what I wanted)). Same issues more or less exist for Xenosaga (though that's Namco that needs to deal with it)...if they were to revive the IP rather than remastering Xenosaga I'd say remaking it completely would be the better option so they can remake each game to use the same core battle system with only slight differences/new upgraded mechanics for later entries and more importantly have each game use the same art style as the OG trilogy basically uses a new art style each game and it just makes the series feel incohesive imo which remakes that use the same art style would fix. Also could fix any blugs/plotlines/add new ones that may have been needed to fix plot issues, and maybe even space out the games' contents a bit so they can make a 4th game that would allow the remake's storyline to be closer in line with the original intended 6 game main scenario (whcih since the last 3 games were cut likely means a lot was rushed/pushed into the last game that hurt the game's narrative...while they may not be able to add every plot point originally intended they probably could rewrite the last half of the game to be more solid).

I was originally sad that I had to wait for Reverie after completing CS4 last year, but now that I'm actually playing Reverie, I'm fine with them taking their time and working on other things first! Reverie is gonna take a looooooong time to finish 🥴

I would love to see a Tokyo Xanadu sequel! I have played that game and the Ex version many times and I got the Limited edition version of Tokyo Xanadu Ex. When they make that announcement, I'm Pre-ordering that ASAP.

A Xenogears remaster would be interesting. I've always regarded the game with a little regret since I had the chance to pick up a copy at a used game store near me way back in high school, but decided not to. Probably should have, but spent that money on other games instead. As for Falcom's localization... issues? I'm not sure that's the word I want to use, but anyway; I've effectively resigned myself to the fact that any game they release will be on a pretty heavy lag. Every time I hear of something new, I dream of it coming soon, but eh. Pipe dream. At least I still have backlog for Trails, but it doe frustrate me with Ys. And Tokyo Xanadu would be exciting. I did pick up the original on Steam during the summer sale, so I'm excited to play the original and would love to know that there's more coming to invest my interest in. As it stands, oh well. Thanks for the video! The kind of semi-informal style was pretty fun and I'd definitely love to hear more videos like this in the future. Kind of makes it feel more like a conversation than a report which is nice, in a different way.

Tokyo Xanadu was the game that introduced me to trails, the cs2 gameplay on the tvs in the electronics store peaked my interest and the rest is history, I could never thank that game enough. I really do hope it gets a sequel.

I remember someone pointing out that the Xanadu series has always been associated with the fifth year of any given decade. The original Xanadu came out in 1985, one of the Legend of Xanadu games came out in 1995, Xanadu Next originally released in 2005 and Tokyo Xanadu's original release came out in 2015. So my guess is Kuro 3 next year, TX2 in 2025.

Just got my copy of Trails into Reverie and having a blast continuing the story from Trails IV. Waited for more than 3 years for this one and honestly nostalgia hits hard since I've played all of the main Trails game, from Trails in the Sky trilogy, the Crossbell duology and of course the Cold Steel quadrology. I'm gonna buy a PS5 when a western release for Kuro no Kiseki drops ✌️

Kuro no Kiseki has been out 1 and a half years or so now in Japan, so if they had the localization rights already, they have had a lot of time to work on it in theory. I say in theory because I'm not an optimist...

They've also been chewing through Zero, Azure and Reverie plus whatever else they had going on. Yes, they did have the Geofront Translations for Zero and Azure, but those were just the base, not the final product.

The thing with Kuro tho is that the script is already long finished, so NIS should already have been able to work on it for a while if they could spare the manpower. Still I wont expect it to come very soon, but hopefully at least next year.

When it come to Falcom games localization I always laught a lot 😅 looking at what NIS America do to reverie on launch day with a lot of bug and missing text in translation i don't want to think what they will do to a lot of characters in Kuro because from what i know some of them have a lot of " Inappropriate line"

Waited till I hit credits on Tokyo Xanadu before watching this (wasn’t sure if any spoilers were included) and I gotta say this game was very refreshing and unexpectedly good! Genuinely hope there’s a sequel of some kind. This cast of characters, story, and soundtrack are as close to my heart as the trails series is.

Xenogears needs a remake just to finish the second disc properly & it's an amazing classic game in itself. They could fix up the spamming of combos moves too & properly tighten up the combat system, it would be sick!

Xenogears: Remaking it, in this case, means fleshing out all the content that we did not get back in the day. I'm talking all the stuff from Disc 2. In reality, there's another Disc worth of content once aaaaall the stuff of the Omnigears, the war against Solaris, the Sufals, the Mahanon, the first visit to Merkabah, etc., is properly fleshed out to match the pacing and the content of Disc 1. There are also the actual physical changes to the world map, as the gates collapse, lands appear, are blasted away, etc. When you think on the assets involved to make that happen and not ruin what made Xenogears... Xenogears, that is one massive project indeed. Kuro: I lived through the Xseed localization blackout of the series prior to Sky SC, went so far as to import them and made guides for them because I could not wait. Now, 11 years later, all is well under the sun and, though they take their time, the wait is worth it. So I can be patient. Xanadu 2: Fingers crossed. It's a great story, and I'd love to see a University arc for Kou and co. Wouldn't that be something else? I mean, we already got Instructor Schwarzer, and that was a great experience, so College-level Kou, Asuka and Shiori doing research on the supernatural Eclipse... mmmm! The possibilities, baby! Would we get Kou to tutor high schoolers/middle schoolers with supernatural abilities? Would the X.R.C. sponsor "field activities" outside Morimiya? Given Falcom's story-making powers... the sky is NOT the limit, merely a pit stop for greater, interdimensional highs.

Nice, three very interesting topics. I'd love to see a Xenogears Remaster, the game is still on my must-play list. Maybe there could be a Switch exclusive, hopefully with a PC release? When it comes to Falcom localisation speed I really don't care at this point. I took a break after finishing the Sky games, continued with the Geofront Crossbell releases at launch and finally caught up with Cold Steel this year. Guess I will be playing Reverie later this year after a few patches. My guess is that Kuro gets announced later this year for fall 2024 and until then I've got two other Falcom releases still to play (not talking about all the other games...). A new (Tokyo?) Xanadu game would be awesome, overall I'd like to see more different games from Falcom again. Imagine a game like Nayuta in the new Falcom engine... : -)

However, the SaGa series, my favorite series, is totally getting love and their remasters are nicely done, so I'd love to see some of my favorite OG games getting love like those. That being said, I'd love some news about my beloved SaGa series from anyone, especially SE!

To be fair the chrono cross port gave me a chance to play it same for it they do release a xenogears remake since for some reason we did really get any Xeno games till chronicles the only we got in the UK was saga 2

I ended up playing Xanadu after diving into both Ys and Trails. I honestly wasn't expecting too much considering how much I enjoyed the previous 2 series but needless to say I was thoroughly surprised with how much I enjoyed the game (also the first dungeon music did not have to slap that hard) I'd love a sequel since I still have several questions I would like answered with how things panned out and were literally alluding to possible future games

That was a weird question during the SE investor meeting. They said in previous meetings that bringing old titles to modern platforms was a part of their 4 point plan, yet people keep acting surprised every time one is announced. We may not know specific details, but Xenogears is happening, barring licensing issues.

I just finished the recent English release of hajimari/reverie, and I loved it a lot. As for the Japanese version tho, I got that version on Christmas day of 2021 as a gift, and I wanted it because cold steel 4 was such a fun game to me, and It made me want to get into the next asap, even if it's mostly in Kanji, or a different Asian language. I plan on doing the same with the kuro games. I hope they do a xanadu sequel or even a remaster or remake with their engine for kuro no kiseki.

the only problem i had with reverie is the typos. Especially the super tamamo gem that increase str by 160 is displayed as 1600.

I would be pretty cool with a Xenogears remaster or remake. Actually, I think Square and Nintendo would be able to sort that out. They sorted out Live A Live and other things. Square is bringing Star Ocean back. I'm pretty sure if they agree on something they could totally make it work and if they involve Monolithsoft the game is sure to sell. Because to most modern JRPG fans Monolith is an assurance for quality. At least to me. I sadly haven't played Tokyo Xanadu yet, but I am currently sort of taking a Trails break and playing more Ys. I think I will restart Zero after Felghana. Origin is really great so far. I'm almost at the end. I will happily wait for Kuro and don't mind if it takes longer. But I hope they have the script ready at least. And even if they do have that, it will still take a while. A lot of stuff that sounds cool in Japanese sounds insanely embarassing in English or German. But I really hope they make a new Tokyo Xanadu game. And I hope they bring Ys X over to the west as well. When it's out and ready to be translated. The one thing me and quite a few other people are waiting for is that fabled FE 4 Remake. We want it, I want it, the world wants it. And then the internet will be overrun by BBQ and incest jokes. You will see what I mean if we get it one day. Maybe.

Would a xenogears pixel remaster really need monolith software. Its just updating the amount of pixels and some menu changes maybe. Only if we are really talking about a remake where they would finally be able to finish the game like they wanted, then monolith should have to be involved. But I think they will never do more than a remaster tbh.

I highly doubt SE would bring in MonolithSoft and/or Takahashi for a Xenogears rerelease. I do think Star Ocean second story r could give us a good idea of how a potential XG remake could look I think it’s much more likely that MS could be involved in a Xenosaga remaster, especially after Future Redeemed. Though I don’t know if we have any word at this point if they are involved in the Baten Kaitos remaster

I liked Tokyo Xanadu. Got it on sale a few years ago. Had never heard of it before, but it looked interesting and when I saw that it was a Falcom game I bought it on the spot, because I had heard many good things of their games, but didn't want to jump straight into a series of 5+ games(Trails only had Sky 1-3 and Cold Steel 1-2 in the West at the time). So TX as a one off game was my trial run, before getting into their flagship IP. It was good, but kinda overstayed its welcome. It was like "Here's the epic final dungeon, but you have to finish these 3 other dungeons first to remove the seal from the gate and when you get in it's actually multiple dungeons so you have to split the party and do all of them!" And that was before the game told me that because I got enough points, I get to play the extra chapter for the true ending that leads into the Super Extra DLC chapter. I got way more game for my money than I expected! But if they do another one, I hope this time it will have english voices!

I'm just making an assumption there based on what we know. It could be something completely different but the clues point to a potential sequel. It might not even be this year since they need to build it from the ground up, but it at least keeps me excited for what they have in the near future.

I think the best case scenario would be to get Suraya Saga (Mrs. Takahasi) on board to help with any script changes that need to happen for a remake and then Mr. Takahashi as a confidant for the new team. Then the team at Square-Enix should be as many people from the original game as possible and one of their better directors.

Damn, brother. That’s why you’re my favorite. I agree and second EVERYTHING you said. I finally got my collector’s edition of Reverie but I want to finish Zero and Azure first. I was working on it and will get back to it but decided to take a break and play FF16 which I don’t regret because I really love it. Not a popular opinion but FF16 is now my second favorite behind only FF7. Thanks for all the info brother. I hope we get good Xanadu news and wish Falcom changes their rule with their scripts. Japan is waiting for the 13th Trails game and we just got the 10th one

I would absolutely keep an eye on the Star Ocean 2 remake iif you have hope for a proper Xenogears remake. This Gemdrops studio really lays out a template for how it should look and how you can integrate features of other games as well as cameos from XC games if they wanted to crossover.

I remember watching the original Kuro CLE stream in 2021 May and the president already said at that point that she's seen the script. So yeah CLE probably gets their hands on it several months before the Japanese release. Chinese grammar is actually more similar to English grammar than Japanese grammar though, which makes comprehension and translation for native Chiense users difficult.

Maybe I'll play Reverie later this year. Could be a good stopping point for getting off the Falcom train. If not, I can still wait if they ever finish the series and - should there be a localization- pick the games up on Steam Summer Sale 2045.

i have a friend who was working at square montreal (he left since) and told me about some remaster/remake few years ago :chrono cross (before the annoucement) , FF9 and Xenogears, so i'm quite confident that we'll see the last two one day ! But i would love to see some Xenosage remaster too with the same DA/visuals on the 3 games this time x) Also for CLE being faster for their releases, there is also the fact that there is no dub in other language , and that takes time too !

I would also be happy, if they would release a remaster of Xenosaga. Want to play it so badly again. Kuro doesn't interests me anymore tbh. A complex story, where you need to wait 3 years for a translation, that already exist by fans, is just deadly. I forgot almost everything. Tokyo Xanadu needs to happen. Now

100% agree with a Xenosaga remaster/remake. My Playstation 2 took the piss, and Xenosaga games are ridiculously expensive now anyway.

@emkii1640 Ya, Xenosaga 3 is so expensive because it had the least number of copies printed. It's about 250$ and up right now. Plus, the other thing that sucks is owned by Bandai Namco, and not Nintendo (as most people think it's Monolith, now a subsidiary of Nintendo), so it would be kind of tough to get the rights unless BamCo were to make a hefty deal. Still, no doubt it would be awesome!

I beat Tokyo Xanadu not too long ago and enjoyed it. When I saw the ending image that said something along the lines of "Look forward to the sequel" I was thinking "Well, it's 2023 now. . . Is there going to be a sequel?" Maybe there will be after all. The fact that they said "brand new" kinda makes me think they're talking about something completely new, not an already established property. Still, we'll have to see.

I would enjoy more of Tokyo Xanadu, especially since even the original ending kind of left us hanging on just what the Twilight Child was, and then EX+ comes along and not only doesn't explain that, but adds in that that whatever it really was, IT didn't know much either, and was some kind of artificial construct of sorts(This is a spoiler, but we're discussing sequels...plus since this comes in late it really has no bearing on what you're doing). I loved the combat system for its streamlined nature, taking Ys and really boiling it down to the simplest stuff it could, without losing customization. The party made sense, which you can't always say about others that try for a modern setting like it did, and it even explained WHY the adults leave all this up to the kids, especially since so many of them can fight the monsters. It's just that one good smack from a monster will cripple the adult, whereas the kids who are Spirit Weapon Wielders can get stabbed through the chest, and then will literally walk it off with some healing items mad of the esoteric materials. Oh, and no monsters drop money. They drop materials that you sell to make money, so this isn't like others where you have to wonder if someone's running a counterfeiting operation in the monster realms.

If they do Xenogears i hope they take time to actuallt finally complete the game. I understand some scenes were simplified animation wise innorder to finish development time and that some character building scenes/side stories were completely excluded from the game as well due to all the issues they were having.

I just finished replaying tokyo xanadu last year and would love to have a sequel but since its the era of remakes/remaster its highly likely that we will get more of it but for now i will be satisfied in playing atelier marie since i just got it yesterday

Xenogears is just like Chrono Trigger, just port it in 16:9 ratio in HD without any visual aberrations, with a few QoL improvements, and call it a day.

I would say something not Trails or Ys from them would be something in the Xanadu series at large, or even something like idk calling back to Brandish or Sorcerian, but that Falcom retailer bonus with those new silhouettes... yeah, that definitely lends some credence to new Tokyo Xanadu specifically instead of just something in the Xanadu series. Personally, I would *love* to see a Xenogears remaster in the style of SO2R, for sure. There's also the possibility to sweeten the pot, SE might give Nintendo an exclusivity period. But there is definitely a roadblock in Takahashi-san's relationship with SE. As you said, I personally don't know if it's softened in the intervening years, but he was *extraordinarily* angry at Square for their treatment of him and his team. So... it is very pipe dream. Not to mention the comment from Kiryu-san was a very nothing business answer. It's literally a "we hear you, but uh yeah we're not saying anything, not because we have something, but because it means it doesn't get us on the hook for something." Love the new style; gonna have to resist the urge to crib it~ ;)
