Years ago I saw this (sort of) Japanese film called Keiko. It was made in Japan with Japanese performers but the filmmakers were from Quebec. So it qualified as a Canadian film. About a young Japanese woman, Keiko who comes to Tokyo, has kind of a lonely life but then gets involved with her older female coworker. I love Japanese movies!

I really liked seeing the openess and positivity when talking about sex. It is really unfortunate that foreigners have such difficulties finding a place to live ... and not just in Japan. Even as a school teacher, I had real issues finding a decent apartment here in Berlin and eventually came to the conclusion that my obviously foreign name probably played a small part in it. I reckon they don't have the option of discriminating against gay men who have done porn without rendering half the city homeless...
