I refused to adopt such bigoted, ignorant views especially the views of "all gays burn in hell". That's such bull shit to me and I can't understand how anyone can say that and claim to be "Christian". Those are such ugly ways to think and it's no wonder lots of people have a negative view of us. My father would have if he had the chance. My mom has told me he was never abusive or angry when they were together, before I was born. My parents were together for I think around 20 or so years. They had trouble having us. So, you could say I am a test tube baby. Ironically, he was an abusive parent. He kept saying over the years he was going to kick my sister and I out at 18. Knowing full well most people today can't live like that. I took most of the beatings than my fraternal twin sister. He made a really good income. My mom worked part time for a few hours a day. Anyhow, he would beat me up for the smallest things with metal objects and couldn't control his anger. Dragged our pets down into the basement because he couldn't stand a dog barking. Had me doing side jobs since I was around 5 yrs old if I had to guess...When my parents finally divorced, I was 13 yrs old, he did everything in his power to restrict alimony and child support. Child services didn't really believe us because I didn't have any bruises. I don't bruise easy. It took 10-11 years for a deal to be made in which my mom was finally able to receive a small portion of his pension in exchange for stopping alimony.....Otherwise the court battles would just go on for years on years on years.... I had to fight in court to get my small college fund. Which I had to use some of the fund for lawyer costs. His lawyers did not want to work with him and his attitude. The judge told him, if he wanted to see his kids, he needed to go to therapy. He made the decision not to do that even though he moved out of state for work. Some how he contacted a side of his family that he never really knew a few years back and threatened I wouldn't get any money when he goes. I never replied. But honestly, I'm not upset about that. My mom couldn't support my sister and I. We managed to get thru college before having to foreclose on the house a little over a year ago (was living in there for 10 years) and got into a mobile home. My mom and I split the bills now that I have a okay job. My sister is like my father. I have plenty of stories about her too. She joined the national guard but was sent overseas because she is a nurse. Chose to get pregnant and married after meeting someone less than a year. Had the child last year right before COVID and chose to not let my mom ever see the child or hold it. While I had to care for my mother who has a bunch of medical issues.... My sister and I rarely spoke since she was 13 because she always had an attitude that was uncalled for. But my mom had a closer relationship with her. Yet out of the blue, told my mom and I that we were toxic... No she just wasn't getting any benefit..... She basically threw her family away.

Nobita used her to make money, the small meal he gave her cost at most 7-8 dollars. She badly needs money and likely will die if her diet of only bananas is continued. 200 dollars is not a lot of money in Japan, especially if you're as popular as Nobita in youtube. He also had the option of starting a gofundme for her, just to help her out a bit (something that wouldn't have needed any money from him). He didn't do that either. The problem is bigger than just money. The bearacrecy is a big problem... most wouldn´t let her rent an apartment because she has no job, probably no education, money, id, insurance?, etc... giving her a years worth of rent (plus the typical extra rent money required when moving into a japanese apartment) probably wouldn´t be enough.

I was homeless for a couple years some time ago here in the States. Honestly, it's not the sleeping outside in poor weather that gets to you most, or the cops kicking you awake, or the digging through dumpsters or days without food or being sick or afraid of violence... it's the ordinary people, pretending that they don't see. It's the waking up, each and every day, sure in the knowledge that no one, no where gives a DAMN whether you're alive or dead. That's the hardest part to bear. The few that DO see you either try to exploit you or sneer at you, yelling to 'get a job'. And, if you're lucky, you do, but people forget that you have no resume, no call back number, no way to wash clothes, nowhere safe to store belongings, no identification often, no alarm clock, no transportation... And, even if you DO find work, you're still homeless. A place to live usually means first month, last, security deposit, utilities, credit check... not to mention having to at the same time improve your appearance to fit your workplace and fend off others who will quickly learn you now have money and wish to extort it from you. And again, that's all IF you find an employer willing to take a chance. You're stuck in fight or flight mode, 24/7. Think of how often a person unwinds with a beer after a hard day. Is it any wonder so many turn tor alcohol or drugs for an escape from that sort of situation, even if it's only momentary, or detrimental to them in the long term? I'm not saying that I condone others that went that route, just that I can comprehend it. The bulk weren't homeless because they were addicts, they were addicts because they were homeless. It's a hard life. It either forcibly matures you at a rapid rate, or leaves you... frozen in time, locked at a mental maturity level until you get out of the situation. Something many never do. It hurts to think of how the anger and bitterness twisted some, but for a great many like myself, the situation also taught us to be more empathetic and caring to our common man. Please, if nothing else, just... acknowledge them as you pass by. You don't have to give food or coin if you don't wish, but, at least acknowledge that they're there. That they're human. That they're a part of your world and community too.

@@dona7616 After doing some volunteer work, I eventually went into social services myself and made a career there, trying to give back to some of the same services that helped me, as well as help others in positions I'd been in. Honestly... the biggest things seem to be a twofold issue: stopping it before it starts, and standard of living. For the first, you have a LOT of folks that are just overflow from mental health, nursing homes, or foster care, kicked out and left to fend for themselves due to lack of funding/space/support. Once they're on the sstreets, their condition spirals and it's insanely hard to get back off them. For the second, there will ALWAYS be some who are chronically homeless/not wanting to improve their lot, but if you only provide services based on a 'success rate', you wind up only helping those who probably would have made it without help anyhow. By improving their standard of living in general, yes some may coast, but desperate cases will succeed a lot more often and general mood and communication with the community in general will improve. Access to public toilets. Day centers to wash clothes and type resumes at. Safe meal spaces and access to counselors. Syringe drop off programs have been proven to drastically cut down on heroin overdoses, diseases, and loose drug paraphenalia in the community. Community outreach, such as the volunteers here in town that go to different camps handing out clean socks, lists of services to get help at, q tips, bandages, etc. A lot of times it's about improving things, even if you can't fix it completely. Sometimes, sadly the only person looking out for some of them was their dealer. Actually had one get ahold of me because he was worried one of his friends he dealt to was suicidal. Sure, it didn't fix the drug problem, but at least he was alive and using less after, since we got him attending little activies that were free in town and finding stuff to do, you know? Just... gotta meet folks halfway with things sometimes. Help lift em up, and the more you do, the more they'll naturally i prove on their own.
@wardenm3 жыл бұрын
@@2911-f7g SO much this. Never used drugs, very rarely splurged on some alcohol, never begged for cash... even still would get either ignored, spat at, or occasional looks and comments simply for sitting and talking to a friend now and again. You can try like hell to find work, but they only see that couple moments in the park or on the sidewalk and just assume that's all there is. And you're right. It's a crash course in humanity. And the scars it leaves... they stay with you. They never really leave. The self consciousness and depression, that loneliness even when you finally DO have others around you, the gnawing fear of winding up back homeless again... I wouldn't wish it all on my worst enemy. But, at the same time... I'm thankful for it. It made me a better person, made me appreciate things and meet people I wouldn't have otherwise. We don't need to love the fires that forge us, but we should at least respect them.
