I saw this video when you published it and was inspired to build sydri, shes my favorite artifact commander deck to this day! I love being a tinker/master artificer, I build commander decks for flavor first and this is one of the standouts. Thanks prof!!

Back when Sharuum was the go-to Esper artifact commander, I chose Sydri instead. She fit the theme of an artificer so well and the art is beautifully done. For quite some time I was jumping back and forth between Esper and Grixis but I am finally home. Breya and Sydri and now my two main decks and my favorites. Before all of that, I was playing Muzzio, Visionary Architect as my main commander back in 2013. I am a blue mage for life.

I would highly recommend mycosynth lattice for this deck. Gives your commander and lands the indestructible from darksteel, and allows you to blow up lands for 1 blue. Also, I've found that meekstone is a huge boon to this deck. Keeping creatures with power 3 or greater tapped down allows your big nasty artifacts to swing, then untap as they aren't creatures, but forces everyone else to stay tapped.

I started updating my Sydri deck after all the good stuff I put in it over the past couple years caused it to stop synergizing as well as it should. There are some good suggestions in the video, but, gee whiz, putting a Helm of the Host on an animated Spine of Ish Sah is just the kind of gross antics needed to step up the pace of games. I'm also a fan of Metalwork Colossus. Lots of players are critical because it doesn't have trample, but lots of players will scoff at you when you turn a handful of 1/1 thopters at them and leave them unblocked, and you flash a Colossus onto the battlefield, thanks Shimmer Myr, Leyline, Raff, etc., and then cast Mirrorweave targeting the colossus. The joy of such a play is so well worth reading the run-on sentence describing it.

Sydri is also good as comped to the other esper commanders she doesn't scream shoot to kill. She is just a commander that can lay in wait and then take the opportune moment to strike. I do mine with this in mind to hinder the big threats on board while i assemble the combos to win the game. It helps if you run more than one because we all know that one is going to be stopped one way or another.

Lovely deck tech as always Prof Sydri has always been one of my favorite commanders and I love it when I see people's personal list as they can differ in many ways. I'd also like to see a video on some casual/fun multi-color-commanders, for example ... - Anax and Cymede (3cmc, 1RW, 3/2) First Strike, Vigilence, Heroic (Whenever you cast a spell that targets Anax and Cymede, creatures you control get +1/+1 and gain trample until end of turn.) - Basandra, Battle Seraph (5cmc, 3RW, 4/4) Flying, Players can't cast spells during combat., {R}: Target creature attacks this turn if able. - Dragonlord Ojutai (5cmc, 3WU, 5/4) Flying Dragonlord Ojutai has hexproof as long as it's untapped. Whenever Dragonlord Ojutai deals combat damage to a player, look at the top three cards of your library. Put one of them into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order. - Krond the Dawn-Clad (6cmc, WWWGGG, 6/6)Flying, vigilance Whenever Krond the Dawn-Clad attacks, if it's enchanted, exile target permanent. - Mina and Denn, Wildborn (4cmc, 2RG, 4/4)You may play an additional land on each of your turns. {R}{G}, Return a land you control to its owner's hand: Target creature gains trample until end of turn. - Rhys the Redeemed (1cmc, W/R, 1/1){2}{G/W}, {T}: Create a 1/1 green and white Elf Warrior creature token. {4}{G/W}{G/W}, {T}: For each creature token you control, create a token that's a copy of that creature. - Selvala, Explorer Returned (3cmc, 1WG, 2/4)Parley - {T}: Each player reveals the top card of his or her library. For each nonland card revealed this way, add {G} to your mana pool and you gain 1 life. Then each player draws a card. - Surrak Dragonclaw (2GUR, 6/6)Flash Surrak Dragonclaw can't be countered.Creature spells you control can't be countered. Other creatures you control have trample. - Tibor and Lumia (2UR, 3/3)Whenever you cast a blue spell, target creature gains flying until end of turn. Whenever you cast a red spell, Tibor and Lumia deals 1 damage to each creature without flying. - Tolsimir Wolfblood (4WG, 3/4) Other green creatures you control get +1/+1. Other white creatures you control get +1/+1. {T}: Create a legendary 2/2 green and white Wolf creature token named Voja. - Mathas, Fiend Seeker (RWB, 3/3)Menace At the beginning of your end step, put a bounty counter on target creature an opponent controls. For as long as that creature has a bounty counter on it, it has "When this creature dies, each opponent draws a card and gains 2 life." - Triad of Fates (2WB, 3/3){1}, {T}: Put a fate counter on another target creature. {W}, {T}: Exile target creature that has a fate counter on it, then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control. {B}, {T}: Exile target creature that has a fate counter on it. Its controller draws two cards. - Hope of Ghirapur (1, 1/1)Flying Sacrifice Hope of Ghirapur: Until your next turn, target player who was dealt combat damage by Hope of Ghirapur this turn can't cast noncreature spells. edit: youtube screwed with my formating.

I would add combos like Sydri/Karn + Gilded Lotus/Prismatic Geoscope + Voltaic Contruct for mana. You can also add Illusionist Bracers since they work well with Sydri, and get access to Filigree Sages + Illusionist Bracers + Gilded Lotus/Prismatic Geoscope, and then you can add Aphetto Alchemist to also be a combo with the Bracers and any Mana Rock, while also providing additional value from things like your Trading Post or Staff of Nin. Bracers and Alchemist can both be tutored up by Muddle the Mixture, which should be noted as well if you are looking to be more competitive. It should be noted that any Rock that produces 3 mana works, but the only card I know of to funnel infinite colorless mana into infinite colored mana is Gemstone Array, which has only been printed in Fifth Dawn. On the subject of Master Transmuter, she can replay the artifact she picks up as well, meaning you can pick up a Myr Battlesphere, for example, and replay it, effectively blinking it, which gets out of hand with Mirrorworks, or even Clock of Omens and Mana Rocks, again combo-ing with Gilded Lotus/Prismatic Geoscope for infinite mana (although with Mirrorworks and Master Transmuter bouncing and making an army of Gilded Lotus you can animate with Sydri has been a common line of play I have taken in the past). Finally, although Scourglass and Whir of Invention were both noted, Whir on upkeep to get Scourglass is perhaps the sickest board wipe tech artifact decks can get.

I ran her originally as a misc. Combo deck. It's whole point was to get Salvaging Station+ Seat w/payoff Disciple of the Vault Leonin Elder Glassdust Hulk Glaze fiend Or infinite mana with the two monolith and Galvanic Construct The other ALTERNATE win was to storm off with reservoir so all the 0 drop artifacts and retract, paradoxical outcome etc etc. It was a good way to turn an unwinnable situation into a winning one.

Sydri player here. She’s a LOT of fun. I would recommend Walking Ballista in your army of robots. Sydri starts off explosive in terms of mana. It’s not hard to use a Ballista effectively as a second, inferior Caltrops if you really need extra political power. Expensive, but can also be a mana sink. Ethersworn Canonist is also a great card that slows down the table (unless the opponents also play Artifacts in which case, it’s a bear) Also, for another useful land unmentioned in the video, I hope Spire Of Industry is in your mana base. Mana fixing is neat. Hopefully these are included and just omitted from the video or you consider these options. :)

And if you want to make it more control oriented you could always add Winter Orb that only allows opponents to untap one land per turn, and unwinding clock which untaps all your artifacts during each players untap step, mycosynth lattice turns all permanents into artifacts and darksteel forge will give everything you control indestructible.

I tried to build a Breya deck a while ago and thus bought alot of these cards, including Sydri. Wanting to make an Esper deck in addition to my monogreen Titania and Simic Arixmethes, I went searching in my binder and found Sydri! I had the same idea as this deck, and I just need to add some wincons like Aetherflux Reservoir. My meta does not really enjoy infinite combos, so I will have to do without that, but perhaps a smothering tithe and a revel in riches combination instead while maintaining board presence with a lot of wipes and a good amount of counterspells instead? Seems like a really funny deck that really works differently from my other two, and I get to use all these cards lying around!

I'd really love to see a build featuring the Partner commanders! Kydele and Thrasios is super fun, as is Vial Smasher by himself!

Love these vids! I'm new to magic and jumped straight into edh. I'm using a krond the dawn clad commander with a deck full of enchantments. Prof, can you do a krond the dawn clad deck? If love to see an underused commander deck

Also @Tolarian Community college, if u like combos for your sydri, consider voltaic key/construct + illusionist bracers/rings of brighthearth + any mana rock that taps for 2 or more, when using illusionist bracers, use sydri to turn voltaic key into a creature, equip the bracers to the key, get infinite untaps, use infinite untaps for all them manas (& staff of nin or walking ballista for damage), yeah? yeahhhhh, who needs friends anyways ;)

I love this deck! Ugh i wanna make it right now! Also i think you should make a deck tech on a not so powerful guy but oozing with flavor in my opinion, King Macar, The Gold Cursed.

Love deck techs, but it’d be nice if you could provide some budget options

Not every deck can run budget versions of every card and still function adequately, unless you consider "adequate" to be 2-4 turns slower. He does mention a few budget alternatives to specific cards, like using Buried Ruin instead of Academy Ruins. Sometimes you just have to accept that certain decks need certain cards to work properly.

I would love to see a deck tech for some Partner commanders My personal favorite pairing is Ikra Shiqi, the Usurper and Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa, who have lovely synergy for some massive lifegain potential

Do a grenzo, Havoc Raiser deck!!! I think it'd be especially fun to try to give it some control-esque elements to tie in with his goad and spell stealing abilities!

Professor, I actually have a deck tech (list) prepared if you would like to see it. You have already covered Ephara and Karametra. I wish to show you a competitive Storm deck that features Athreos, God of Passage.
