I’m 44, all the folks I grew up watching are fading away. Forgive my self centeredness but that’s how I feel. Tom Brokaw was very much a part of my day, nearly every day, every world event, he was the voice to talk you through it, him and others. Mr Brokaw hasn’t past but still, we won’t really see him again, it makes me sad. Everyone that was the voice of my youth of sport, of laughter, of entertainment are leaving and it makes me sad. The passage of time gets every one of us, even our hero’s and those we looked up to. Here is to a great voice of my generation! Tom Brokaw, always there with a steady voice of reassurance. Thank you Mr Brokaw.

He stepped down from anchoring at _NBC Nightly News_ in 2004. After leaving the anchor chair, Brokaw remained at NBC as Special Correspondent, providing periodic reports for _Nightly News_ . He served as an NBC analyst during the 2008 presidential election campaign and moderated the second presidential debate between Obama and McCain. After Tim Russert's death, Brokaw served as host of _Meet the Press_ on an interim basis until David Gregory became permanent host six months later.

Tom Brokaw emceed the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas story about the Candy Bomber, the story about the Berlin Air Lift -- it showcases the special effort by one of the transport pilots at the end of WW II. I recommend it because it shows American idealism on the world stage. Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpvdaayrarKKeZI

There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving.”-ACTS 20:35. SONG 17 “I Want To” PREVIEW * 1. What fine spirit do we see among Jehovah’s people? THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION (SIMPLIFIED) Imitate Jesus’ Example of Watchfulness Imitate Jesus’ Example of Watchfulness “Keep on the watch and pray.”-MATTHEW 26:41. HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER? How can our prayers show that we are on the watch? In what ways can we show that we are watchful in our ministry? THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION Imitate Jesus’ Example of Watchfulness Imitate Jesus’ Example of Watchfulness “Keep on the watch and pray.”-MATT. 26:41. HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER? How can our prayers demonstrate that we are on the watch? In what ways can we show that we are watchful in our ministry? Jesus talks with his disciples around a fire THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION Imitate Jesus and Remain at Peace “The peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts.”-PHIL. 4:7. SONG 113 Our Possession of Peace PREVIEW * 1-2. Why was Jesus troubled? 12-year-old Jesus speaking courageously with the teachers in the temple THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION (SIMPLIFIED) Imitate Jesus’ Courage and Discernment “Though you never saw him, you love him. Though you do not see him now, yet you exercise faith in him.”-1 PETER 1:8. HOW WOULD YOU RESPOND? What can help you to stay on your journey to everlasting life? How can you imitate Jesus’ courage? Jesus shows tender compassion for a sick man JESUS-THE WAY, THE TRUTH, THE LIFE To Imitate Jesus, Be . . . COMPASSIONATE As a perfect man, Jesus did not experience many of the distresses and concerns that other humans did. Yet he showed deep feeling for people. He was willing to go out of his way for them, to do things beyond what might have seemed necessary. Yes, compassion moved him to help others. Reflect on the examples in Chapters 32, 37, 57, 99. APPROACHABLE 12-year-old Jesus speaking courageously with the teachers in the temple THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION Imitate Jesus’ Courage and Discernment “Though you never saw him, you love him. Though you do not see him now, yet you exercise faith in him.”-1 PET. 1:8. HOW WOULD YOU RESPOND? What can help you to stay on course on your journey to salvation? How can you imitate Jesus in showing courage? Jesus speaks tenderly to those with troubled hearts THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION (SIMPLIFIED) Imitate Jesus’ Humility and Tenderness “Christ suffered for you, leaving a model for you to follow his steps closely.”-1 PETER 2:21. HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER? Why is Jesus the best person to imitate? How can you imitate Jesus’ humility? Jesus speaks tenderly to those with troubled hearts THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION Imitate Jesus’ Humility and Tenderness “Christ suffered for you, leaving a model for you to follow his steps closely.”-1 PET. 2:21. HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER? Why is Jesus worthy of imitation? How can you imitate Jesus in showing humility? Brothers and sisters of different ages and backgrounds, happily conversing before a congregation meeting. A brother welcomes a non-Witnesses couple. THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION “By This All Will Know That You Are My Disciples” we get to know those in the congregation, the more likely we are to see some of their flaws. (Rom. 3:23) Sadly, some have allowed the imperfections of others to stumble them. 3. What identifies Jesus’ true followers? (John 13:34, 35) Two different trees during a windstorm. One of the trees is flexible and remains standing while the other tree is too rigid and has broken off and fallen. THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION Imitate Jehovah-Be Reasonable “Let your reasonableness become known to all men.”-PHIL. 4:5. SONG 89 Listen, Obey, and Be Blessed PREVIEW a Which sort of tree would you rather be? (See paragraph 1) 1. In what way must Christians be like a tree? (See also picture.) “THE wind does not break a tree that can bend.” This proverb highlights an important quality that allows certain trees to thrive: flexibility. To flourish spiritually, Christians must be flexible, ready to bend. How? We must be reasonable by adapting when our personal circumstances change and by respecting the viewpoints and decisions of others. A man with a withered hand THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION (SIMPLIFIED) Imitate Jehovah’s Compassion “Jehovah, Jehovah, a God merciful and compassionate.”-EXODUS 34:6. SONGS: 57, 147 HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER? Why can it be difficult to show compassion at times? How does Jehovah teach his people to show compassion? In what situations can you show compassion? SONGS: 130, 107 IN WHAT WAYS CAN WE BE CONSIDERATE TO . . . our family members? our brothers and sisters? those we meet in the field ministry? 1. How do Jehovah’s worshippers show that they love one another? The serpent watching as Eve is about to eat the forbidden fruit. THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION Imitate Jehovah’s Endurance “By your endurance you will preserve your lives.”-LUKE 21:19. SONG 114 “Exercise Patience” PREVIEW * 1-2. How do Jehovah’s words recorded at Isaiah 65:16, 17 encourage us not to give up? A husband works with his wife in the kitchen THE WATCHTOWER-STUDY EDITION Be Considerate and Kind in Imitation of Jehovah “Happy is anyone who shows consideration to the lowly one.”-PS. 41:1. SONGS: 130, 107 IN WHAT WAYS SHOULD WE SHOW CONSIDERATION . . . in the family? in the congregation? in the field ministry? 1. How is love evident among God’s people? Jesus comforting a grieving mother during a funeral procession. I like Tom Brokaw. But there has NEVER been such a thing as the greatest generation. Tell that to interred American Asians tell that to Hispanics tell that to Native Americans tell that to Black Americans that were just trying to live life, as police dogs and water hoses were sprayed at them while peacefully protesting forced to go to the back of businesses to get food etc. Only white Americans who have a shallow remembrance of history think it was a long time ago. Sorry bi3t it was only 50 plus years ago in the 60's that minorities were just starting to get any real opportunity to live decency. Oh and by the way if you have all forgotten the United States are the only nation to drop a nuclear weapon on foreign soil and cry like a baby because other countries have the same technology.
