Tom broke the camper slide...will the new bedroom layout function like we hoped?

Tom's been working on the camper makeover so we can get out of town for the holiday weekend. The flooring and bedroom makeover is coming together well, but now the slide isn't working. As of right now, it looks like we'll just have to take it camping as is!

Never been in an Ikea, but I put their furniture together fairly regularly, and it seems way heavy for an RV. I have worked in both the RV & mobile home industry, and I recommend only the lightest materials for either one of those two.

Many, MANY leaks come from water dripping from slides, we already decided to never have a camper with slides unless we plan to live in it full time , at a stationary spot. Tom its looking great and its not even half way finished, you are a great handyman👍🏻😁

I love your videos, also wanted to share a “leak” in our motor home. When we pulled in our slide after it rained, water was pooled on top of the slide. We didn’t know it until my husband applied the breaks and the water sloshed off the top of the slide (obviously now pulled in) and dowsed him in quite a downpour of cold water! This could explain each side of the slide having water damage - acceleration and breaks would cause pooling at both ends. Good luck!

To address the potential leaking from the slide, there should be an awning above your slide that opens when you put the slide out and retracts when you put it in. Our camper shop suggested that to us when we bought our used camper. Ours didn’t have one and we had some minor water damage. So we had one installed and haven’t had trouble since. Highly recommend if you don’t have one (I couldn’t tell from the video of you had one or not). Happy camping!

When it said slide, I was thinking swing set and getting a visual of him trying to go down a slide too small for him and then the video starts and I realize that it is the RV slide. I got a giggle anyway! Dawn's tone at the end, "oh, Tom" is every wife at some point!

I'm not sure if anyone said this yet, but I've had two trailer/ motorhomes and I had slider covers installed above the tipouts and have had no problems with leaks. As someone did mention, it's important to make sure you coat your roof periodically too.

FYI. We had a trailer where a window leaked. Took twice to dealer who said they fixed but didn’t. Third time they found it was leaking from the roof and traveled all the way to other end to the window. They ended up replacing the entire roof, window and wall where window was. Check your roof closely. Enjoy your outing.

Good idea closing that wall portion. Looks like it was always there, I think. Oh, just squeeze some good wood glue in cut shelves, put shelf paper and drawers will be like new, at least workable. What a big job this trailer has caused, but it's gonna be like new and semi-customized! Nice size for your crowd.

As long as you have shelter and a place to lay your head at night... you should be good for the camping trip. However, Tom , we know you. We had a Murphy bed professionally built/installed in a spare room in it house. The company emphasized how great the hinges were, lifetime guarantee, etc., but we found the platform that's horizontal when someone sleeps in the bed, but vertical when the bed is tucked away, that fell apart after only 6 years of occasional use. My advice: ensure that part of the bed is strong. Over time, it bears a lot of weight, but was designed to be somewhat lightweight - it didn't last on ours. That was the weakest part of the bed, by a long shot. Good luck!

I always recommend the spa sensations mattresses from Walmart.com! Try to get the biggest size your budget can afford. We have 4 in our house.

We can’t do an air mattress because that’s what our guests currently use, and they hate it; they’re not being rude, they just need a proper mattress. My husband will be building the bed, so hopefully it’ll hold up. He’s going to do his best to make something that will have plenty of support and hold up over time. Thank you for the advice! No one we know has a murphy bed, so we’re trying to do our research.

My son bought a brand new camper earlier this year. Within a few months he had a water leak from the shower base. When he took it to get repaired, he was told it's a very common problem with campers. You'll probably always battle them no matter how many campers you buy. It's looking great!

I bought my husband a plastic wheelbarrow for Father’s Day one year, and that same summer I was cutting wood using the top of the wheelbarrow and cut right threw it. I felt so bad, but he wouldn’t let me replace it. In fact we still have it years later.

Did you know that you can custom cut a memory foam mattress with a large kitchen knife? Just unzip the cover, measure & draw a line & cut away. We did that for our camper when the king sized one we loved was just too big for the space. Probably voids any warranty, but who has ever collected on that? lol

Always move the slide in and out with the jacks not set on the ground. Move the slide then set the jacks to set up. Pull the jacks up and then put he slide back in to pack up. That will make it run smoothly. Love your channel and all your projects. You both are rock stars. 🥳🇨🇦
