For Tom’s wives, I think this is a perfect example of a toxic relationship. You know something’s wrong, can’t quite put your finger on it, think you’re over thinking and even worse are blinded by love in the midst of all of that. I think it takes time to realize that your life is actually on fire. Kinda like the frog in hot water story. Glad the wives eventually got out of it

Katie did things very well. She never used phones to which scientology had access, she made sure her child was with her, outside of Scientology properties, when Cruise was served with divorce papers. I bet he was livid! I wonder if he jumped up and down on the couch? Anyone remember the infamous Oprah interview? I can't stand Oprah, but that "interview" was on every platform then available.

Tom Cruise's first wife was screwed by Scientology church because they wanted to keep Tom happy and granted him a divorce even though she did nothing wrong and she was the person that recruited Tom for Scientology. The second wife lost her adopted children and Katie Holmes (wife #3) was sneaky when she served him with divorce papers because she didn't want to lose custody of her daughter like her predecessor.

When I was young, a friend and I dropped into a Scientology centre for a free personality test as a joke. The results led to me being rejected, and they tried hard to get my friend to join. A cult didn’t want me 😭😂

A friend of mine was supposed to meet me at a street corner in Toronto. The corner had a Scientology chapter there. When I met her she was talking to one of their people and wanted me to talk to them too. So I went over and they got maybe three sentences out when I went nope, nope, nope, nope out of there taking my friend with me. I said they were a cult and later it proved me right. Did she thank me? No. She thought they were a benign cult that just wanted everyone to have fun. 😨

Leah mentioned in a interview that she went to the Catholic Church upon leaving scientology. She was baptized as an infant, taken to church by her italian nonna, and was grateful that she had that anchor. Without it, she talked about how much more more difficult it would've been to leave and be wading in the middle of an ocean with no land in sight. Deo gratias

On one of the SPTV channels not too long ago, someone was talking about the childbirth silent thing. It was explained that the “silence” is expected of everyone present except for the woman giving birth. So, they want a calm experience for the child to come into. The mother does what she needs to do and doesn’t have to be quiet. From all the nonsense Scientology preaches, this is the only thing that makes any sense to me.
@wendieking4184

Not supporting this quasi religion but I read the mother is allowed to make as much noise as she wants. Everyone else must remains as quiet as possible. Having a baby born in to a world that’s not ‘chaotic’ is supposedly beneficial according to these nuts.

In the 80s I had a friend who worked at the law firm who prepared the pre nup for Tom and Nicole. He told me they had a business arrangement to marry and he would make her a huge star and she would be his beautiful wife who he would adopt with but never have to have a child with. Then she became a huge star and went on to have her own children with someone else. I would not be surprised if Katie who never had a hit after Dawson’s, was promised the same stardom.

This was a fascinating review. I definitely would never have even gotten near to people like this. I want to send a friend to join a cult, and I went to where they were living to see what was going on and immediately got into an argument with the cult leader due to some of the nonsense, he was spouting. I was immediately persona non grata, and that suited me just fine. I left and never went back. My two friends bunch for about two years until they escaped. They had to hide out for quite a while, because the cold was trying to track them down.

I'm so excited that you are reviewing Leah's book! It is well written and so fascinating that I couldn't put it down. Leah is such a warrior and I really respect how she has raised her daughter, shielding her from the craziness of Scientology. I don't know how she was able to achieve that. I agree with you, Nicole and Katie married Tom with their eyes wide open to the reality of Scientology, especially Katie. One would think that Nicole's union to Tom would have been a cautionary tale to any potential love interest, especially as it relates to having children within Scientology.

Its very easy to be blinded by a cult doctrine and not see it until there is significant events that open your eyes. Interesting how Leah saw it at the wedding but still remained inside the organization and endured the "punishment" for stating the obvious truth. It's so dangerous and I do fear for people still involved. Truly heartbreaking that their lives are in disarray because of it.

I think both Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes were seduced by the vastness of a celebrity marriage. While Nicole was essentially kicked out of their marriage, Katie's maturity and maternal instinct drove her to take a courageous leap. But...yes...they both drank the Cruise Kool-Aid!

We've ALL been conditioned to immediately reject *anything* that gets labeled a "conspiracy theory." If the ladies were controlled this way from the very beginning, into _not only_ *not* questioning aloud, for fear of being labeled a "conspiracy theorist," even in private, but even then to the point of not questioning _in their own minds,_ to avoid calling *themselves* that hated/ridiculed term, it would make sense that they "willingly" complied for as long as they did. The phrase has been successfully weaponized to produce a form of gaslighting in _whatever_ situation it is used on people. A simple, shortcut way to control and induce censorship, even of one's own thoughts and feelings. It seems logical to me that it would be a useful tool to control them, given all the "conspiracy theories"/questions about the cult.

Hi Shauna, fascinating tit bits. I have a theory why Kidman and Holmes stuck around. I think because they were married to Tom, he would make sure doors and opportunities would be given to them. Holmes I consider to be a hack actress and would probably never make it. Kidman, whom I also don't think is great but certainly did better. Tom did kick-start Kidman's career off. I'm so glad Reminy was strong enough to get away. Love your channel, highly entertaining, and great for book reviews for further reading. Congratulations. You SOLD ME! It's time I read Leah's and Andrew Morton's book. I knew a few bits and pieces of this but not that about Jennifer Lopez's father. Tom Cruise's intensity and cult connection has always made me feel uncomfortable even causing me not to watch his movies. Yes I still can not believe how easing Nicole married him at 23 and Katie married him at 28 were Tom Cruise (Scientology) brainwashed. Thank God Katie's Attorney father and mother remained active Catholics. It's been said that's how her dad was able to negotiate a healthy divorce where Suri is safe from Tom and Scientology. When Nicole left her two kids enmeshed with Tom and Scientology as such young children I was aghast knowing Nicole would be termed a suppressive and would never see her children again. How does a mother agree to remain silent as Nicole chose to do? Isn't that child abandonment especially when Nicole had fame and fortune to fight Tom for her parental rights.

Any community which values some individuals over others, is highly questionable. When it is done under the cover of religion, it is nauseating. I was brought up to be critical of any exclusive groups for many reasons, mainly out of concideration to the feelings of those who are left on the outside. It is hard to think that I would have been accepting of the hierarchic structure of the CS even when I was young and not as experienced and cynical as I am these days.

I think Nichole in particular, was the victim of "cohersive control" for a long time during her marriage. I remember the gossip that it was Tom who initated their divorce and that she was blindsided. Katie had a very smart father and HER 'escape' with Suri was very carefully orchestrated, whilst Nichole still barely has contact with either of their adopted children. There's something VERY fishy about both marriages...

That's really unfair. Both women were young, beautiful and talented and if all they were interested in was a 'leg up' they could have had their pick of influential men without the burden of having to study scientology. Nicole Kidman has had a stellar career since her divorce from Cruise and without any help from him or scientology. Katie Holmes has been working consistently in film, TV and theatre up to this year - again, without any help from Cruise or scientology.

I wonder, with both Nicole and Katie, if it wasn’t a career move to go along with Scientology and Tom’s game plan. Until…they realized there was nothing in it for them other than being Tom’s arm candy.

I’m sorry but I think Nicole had major ulterior motives. She wanted to be a big star by any means necessary. If she had rocked the boat she could have been easily black listed by Hollywood. I think Katie was in a position because of Suri. I think she and Nicole did love Tom and maybe both had a touch of that I can change him disease. Who knows what crazy stuff Tom said to them behind closed doors.

Scientology is so interesting, but kinda scary, so it's brave of you to out out a video! American religions are interesting 😂. Sister Wives (a Mormon polygamist family that imploded on TLC of 18 seasons had a box that rocked their family [the nacho incident 😔]. IMO Tom Cruise probably has the personality for that cult too😂😂). What a fun change of pace! Ty Ms Shauna & Happy New Year 🎊

I think star treatment ie being the recipient of special treatment is very seductive and hard to give up which is probably why both Katie and Nic tolerated it for so long. Being madly in love can also make someone very blind. Thank goodness Leah got out. I feel so sorry for all the poor people who didn't and who don't have anything this cult really needs except labour and blind obedience. Interesting that our Nic then fell for an addict ( albeit who seems a really nice guy- you think she would have run a mile after all the other nonsense she went through. Do like Keith though ( course he's an Aussie)😊

Cruise is a despicable person. There is something wrong about him. I really dislike the movies I have suffered through those images of him dancing with that broom are upsetting. I have never seen that trash fly boy nonsense. The thought of him representing/imitating a military hero is sickening.

Nicole was apparently 22 when she got with Tom Cruise. i find that story interesting because.. they met on set apparently. I can understand that she would have been swept away in the moment but what many forget (and I can't find any reports now) she was engaged to Marcus Graham and he found out the relationship was over through the media if the news reports back then were correct). he was heart broken and a bit dirty on her for a while (understandably). Before her i felt sorry for tom because Minnie Driver had divorced him because he 'had a low sperm count' and she wanted to be a mother (so the headlines said). I would say however, that the real problems for Tom and Nicole is she didn't play ball with the church (as they expected - she comes over in interviews as pretty quiet and insipid). I'd say it appears he has been pretty vindictive to her through the divorce and Katie would have known this.. hence she played smarter with the divorce planning especially as they had suri.

@thevocalcrone Mimi Rogers was Tom Cruise’s first wife, not the delightful Minnie Driver. It was Mimi Rogers who introduced Tom to Scientology. Although I was unable to find it on internet searches today, I distinctly recall that Mimi said the reason that she and Tom did not have any children was because he had been rendered infertile as a result of a bout of measles. This was why, years later, there was a lot of speculation about Suri Cruise’s true paternity. Mimi said that one of the reasons for the breakdown of her marriage to Tom was that he was thinking of becoming a monk and he thought he needed to be celibate in order to “keep his instrument pure.” However, Mike Rinder wrote in his book, _A Billion Years: My Escape From a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology_ that he was assigned the task of pressuring Mimi Rogers to agree to divorce Tom because David Miscavige wanted to keep Tom, his new BFF, happy. Miscavige knew that Tom had become besotted with his co-star in _Days of Thunder_ the lovely young Nicole Kidman. Mimi Rogers had grown somewhat cold on Scientology and Miscavige wanted to ensure that Tom would be drawn more deeply into Scientology, so he saw fit to grant Tom his heart’s desire, Nicole. Years later, when Nicole began to distance herself from Scientology, Mike Rinder wrote that he was again tasked by Miscavige with facilitating another divorce for Tom Cruise.
